Keeping Kat: a second chance, firefighter romance (San Soloman Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 141 ratings

I make bad choices. No two ways around it. In my defense, I should be dead already.

Now my ex has got a new girl in his bed and I still can’t get his hot firefighter body out of my head.

Some creep is stalking me with a hidden camera in my house and the local police want to use my keen legal mind to find a kidnapped little girl.

There’s clearly more to this story, I’ve got to figure out how much.

About the Author

There's not much to know about me. I'm a simple girl. I think.
I can't live without nail polish, the darker the better.
I drink a glass of wine every day, but if I could get away with it, I'd drink a bottle. My favorite things to eat are chips with salsa. But red vines and popcorn are a close runner-up.
I currently reside with four dogs, two cats, and one husband. Three of my dogs are Siberian Huskies, so my clothes always have fur on them. Always.
Given the opportunity, I would read books all day long. So far my record for a single day is five full-length books.
Hoodies are my favorite item of clothing, bras are my least. Hats are my second favorite. They look good on my head. I'm lucky that way.
When I'm writing well, I'm barely reading. And vice-versa.
I'm a terrible dancer and have no rhythm. Like zero. Just ask my husband.
Sometimes I'll go three days without washing my hair. Hence the hats.
I started an underground literary magazine in college, which I credit for really launching my narcissistic tendencies via writing.
If I couldn't be a writer, I would be a rockstar. Someone from Journey, preferably the Steve Perry years.

Denise has been reading since before she could talk. And to this day, escaping into a book is her go-to activity before anything else.

She likes to write about sassy women and semi-flawed alpha-esque men (hard on the outside and just a little soft on the inside.)  Denise’s female characters always have strong friendships, potty mouths, and like to drink—a lot.

Denise is loyal to a fault, a bit too sarcastic, blindingly optimistic, and pretty freakin’ happy with life overall. If she couldn't be a writer, she'd be a singer in a classic rock band. Right after she learned to carry a tune. She has more purses than days in the month, an obsession with colored ink pens, and a slightly unhealthy bracelet habit.

Home is in the Pacific Northwest where she lives with five Siberian Huskies and a husband (BW) who has the patience and tolerance of a saint. And, lest she forget, Denise also lives with too many to count characters inside her head, who will eventually have their stories told.

    Til death do us part…..
It says a lot about a person who will stand beside someone hell bent on destroying themselves and under the most devastating of circumstances. This is really well put together and more than worth the money and your time.
Denise Wells has captured the passion, heartbreak and love of everyday people who must face the destructive nature of cancer.
I was surprised to find this book series and had literally been saying “it’s too bad someone doesn’t write about the effects of cancer on the love life of women.”
And I say cancer in general because body loss doesn’t just come from breast cancer and not everyone can be reconstructed.
While this book is not the same as my story or probably even yours, I’m happy it’s been told and hopefully those reading it will be helped to find the strength to persevere through thick and thin.

Let the men read this with you…..Enjoy

It's listed as a firefighter romance and even though the main male hero is a firefighter I feel like this is more of a romantic suspense story with the lead female who is police consultant.
Kat, our heroine, in every way, is working a bizarre case involving 12 yr old girls being stalked, kidnapped and then returned a few days later without any ransom, etc. Brad, our hero, is her ex and a firefighter. They broke up after a major health diagnosis for Kat. But they never got over each other. This case becomes their 2nd chance.

'Keeping Kat' was interesting. The plot was filled with adversity, suspense, tension, intrigue, a little action, and snippets of levity. Kat and Brad, the protagonists, were soul mates until they weren't; oops, they were again. Kat was difficult to like as a character because she kept using her illness with cancer to make poor choices. However, Mavis was the comic relief in the book. She was a hoot! The stalker and his mother were too disturbing. However, I liked the word choices in some cases, such as, "The server comes out and asks me if I forgot something. I'm pretty sure my pride is gone, maybe my dignity and self-respect as well. Seen those anywhere?" Overall, it was a so-so narrative.

This is beautiful story focused on love and a second chance.

It is the type of story that clutches you at once and does not release you until you get to the end - then you find yourself pining over the fact that the book has ended.

I loved how the relationship unfolded so we could see these amazing characters grow in ways they never expected.

Enjoyed the story but the f-word used too much for me, guess I'm an old girl. Felt sorry for Kat who was Always drinking & seemed depressed. She was an alcoholic who needed counseling. Love Brad who stuck with Kat, no matter how many times she rejected him. Most guys would have let her go & I understand that.

So, I am a little confused as to what book I am actually leaving a review for - Keeping Kat? Or Love Undecided? My Kindle say one thing and other sites something else. So, I am reviewing for Keeping Kat as that is the story I read.

This is my first book by this author – while it was an interesting story line, I couldn’t deal with Kat. Yes, I felt bad for her illness but the constant pushing and pulling of Brad and his feelings…. Just wanted to throw my Kindle or slap Kat. Thankfully I did nether. Kat – grab that happiness by the bull horns and go for a ride!

There were plenty twists and turns to keep me interested in the story and Brad certainly helped in that department. Toss in some steamy scenes and some mystery/suspense and it was overall a good read.

Just love these books, I read Loving Lexie first and I loved that so I thought I’d start at the beginning and this didn’t disappoint, it was a bit creepy with the stalker but I just couldn’t put it down. It’s just sad the illness but everyone copes in their own ways but still a great love story.
