Love Me: Just a Summer Affair? (Second Chance Actor's Romance) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 9 ratings

‘Most people think I’m a b****rd! Even my friends think that’s what I am. But you know what? They are wrong.’

It's the summer of 1969. Sam Fielding (that’s me) arrives for a season of weekly rep at a theatre on the Yorkshire coast. I'm so full of good intentions, planning to live like a monk. Don’t ask! Just accept I've seen the error of my ways after last season and I’ve turned over a new leaf!

I’ve sworn no more affairs with sexy juvenile leads. This summer celibacy rules, I'll concentrate on work, be sensible and mature … the older statesman of the theatre company. Maybe not that old, but I could do professional, couldn’t I? I created a successful production company back in London. You don't do that without being professional. And what's so tough about keeping things clean?

But then SHE walks into my life.

Correction: She runs into my life, literally collides with me and … what’s that cricket phrase? Oh, yes ... she bowls me over and knocks me for six. WOW! What a stunner. Plus, she seems, er... well, nice. (That's an icky word). It doesn't describe anything about her. So let's try a few of these on for size: great smile, fabulous legs ... petite and curvy body. Sorry, I know attraction isn't all about looks. Cut me some slack. Old habits, you know. Let me try again: she seems considerate, friendly ... not too friendly, perhaps she's shy. Maybe nervous or vulnerable. Has someone like me already hurt her? My heart contracts at that last thought, and my head goes into a spin when it occurs to me that I want to protect her! And guess what? She’s this year’s juvenile lead -- my usual target. What am I supposed to do now with my plans?

Things quickly start to get complicated. It's no longer whether I can resist her. I can try, (and I will try) but I know I'll fail because she is just too gorgeous. (Jeez! How shallow am I?) But there is more than her looks. Even though I've only just met her I know I like her. (That could be an understatement). And if it is then my life must change. I have to turn into the good guy, someone worthy of her, and the only guy in her life. Great plan Sam! Except it will surely lead to more trouble especially when Cecil finds out.

Love Me is a steamy, second-chance romance. A meeting of a cynical, life-tarnished man with innocent beauty, set in the world of English theatre during the late nineteen sixties.

Gill Fernandez started writing fiction over forty years ago. She was first published in women's magazines, where she specialised in romance and 'slice of life' stories using three separate pen names. Writing short fiction suited her at the time and fitted best with her many family commitments.

Born in Brighton, she grew up in the south of England, an area that frequently appears in her books. As an only child, there was plenty of scope for her to develop her creative imagination when she wasn't at dance classes, having music lessons, or simply at school.

Thwarted in her early ambition to become a journalist when she left school, she followed her second ambition and went into the theatre, moved to London and began expanding her life experience. All good preparation for her future as a writer.

Nowadays, her output is almost exclusively full-length novels with strong romantic themes, often within family sagas and mostly set within the British Isles.

Timing in life is everything. It didn't work out for Sam and Georgia that first summer. And then she was gone. Despite his manwhore-ish ways, I rather liked Sam. Right up until Georgie found out who Cecil was. Georgie... just amazing... strong, smart, talented, and completely unwilling to put up with Sam's bs. I loved this book, and laughed and cried throughout, so afraid that they wouldn't find their forever. The author did not disappoint with this one! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Love Me is a captivating and steamy romance set against the backdrop of the 1960s English theatre scene. Sam is a flawed but relatable protagonist who wrestles with his desires and tries to transform himself for the sake of love.
The story portrays that even the most self-aware and determined people can struggle to break free from their past. The novel shows that love can be a powerful catalyst for change, but real transformation requires more than just good intentions—it demands accountability, growth, and a willingness to confront one’s flaws. Sam's journey serves as a reminder that personal development is messy, and even when motivated by love, it takes time and effort to truly become a better person.
It also reinforces that vulnerability and honesty in relationships are key to finding meaningful connection beyond superficial attraction.
