Couldn't stand him!!Lisa B.VINE VOICE5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced and wonderfulReviewed in the United States on November 27, 2020Verified PurchaseThis one really sucked me in from the very beginning. I love how it was all set up. I recommend this to anyone, even if you've never read the author's work before. Jump on in. It was easy to get into the characters and their personalities. I was so sad for the victim and how her family had treated her. All throughout the book I kept thinking it was one of two people. I was wrong.

The dogs added an extra special something to the story. I always love seeing the dogs in this series. If you like audiobooks, try this one. It's even better listening. The narrator did a good job.

The town finally voted Seth--the police chief out of office! Liz was finally feeling as though she could give up amateur sleuthing since the new police chief, Mike knew what he was doing. That is until there was a murder--Mike cane down with viral pneumonia and his second in command was also out of commission. Four young people had created an app which they were about to sell for millions of dollars. They were staying at a cabin not too far from Liz's B&B. They were about to go get some dinner at Gertys Diner when one of them-Alex-started throwing up--she stayed behind as the others took off. Then someone broke into the cabin and shot Alex in the head-she died immediately. Now who would do something like that? Liz was asked by Mike to try and figure it out. Seth, the police chief was was voted out of office-tried to worm himself in--- Alex's parents came and stayed at Liz's B&B--they were anything but nice and were extremely demanding. Then a timid woman called-she had the same last name. When the parents found out that this woman was coming they threw a fit--but come she did! There were quite a few suspects-it wasn't until almost the end that they were caught-and the reason for the murder was figured out. I have always loved butternut squash soup--a recipe for that and a couple of other delicious sounding recipes are in the back of the book!!

Life is good at the Red Cedar Lodge and Spa, visitors continue to enjoy the beautiful setting and countryside and with Seth the local Chief of Police out of the picture and Liz and Roger’s friend Michael taking over the position life is good with an assistant from his old position.

Liz Lucas is to be interviewed by a San Francisco TV station when she meets four young techies who have developed an app which they are selling for millions of dollars. With talking to them she finds they are renting a cabin in the Red Cedar area. As the story unfolds a burglary or maybe murder is taking place and the new Chief of Police Michael along with his assistance begins to investigate and Liz is determined to stay out of the investigation, it isn’t till Michael is hospitalized for pneumonia and is assistance is home sick also that Michael asks Liz to help out. No soon has Michael spoken to Liz than Seth shows up with the police officer who has temporary been assigned in Michael’s absence. I give credit to Liz, I don’t think I could have kept my mouth shut when Seth begins tantalizing Liz and calling her names. Come along with Brandy and Winston and help Liz sold the mystery in Book 13 of this series.

I like mysteries that make sense when you reread them after you know who did it, but that are not so obvious that you can figure out the villain long before you finish reading it the first time. Well I did not figure out who did it before it was revealed. But I thought that the explanation was rather lame. Possible, but not clear and convincing.

Maybe I expected too much from this author. I like most of her mysteries a lot. But I think that she spent too much time making fun of Seth, even though Seth is obnoxious enough to deserve being made fun of. And not enough on showing why the villain was that greedy. Yes there are a lot of greedy people, but most people have limits to what they will do because they are greedy, and most people seem to stop short of cold blood murder of someone that they know. Thank goodness!

She had the biggest percent of this app, in this techie group, then brought the rest of them together. Each would be getting millions. Was it a burglary gone wrong for her, or murder. They were young kids, or was it greed wanting more . Her books are always easy to read, and to figure out, what and who did the murder.
