A B.R.A.G. MEDALLION HONOREE AND RECIPIENT OF READERS' FAVORITE 5-STAR AWARD

Their discovery could change the world forever…

In 1947, a spaceship crashed outside Roswell, New Mexico, and the Air Force quickly covered it up, leaving the most famous UFO event in history buried in secrecy. But what if someone smuggled alien technology from the crash site—and twenty years later, it is still hidden, waiting to be found?

Teenager Frankie Strickland’s life is typical—baseball, pranks, and hanging out with his friend—until Melanie Simpson moves in next door. With her sleeveless t-shirts, Converse sneakers, ripped jeans, and a wicked curveball, Frankie can’t help but fall for her. But Melanie isn’t just another girl—she carries with her a mystery that even she doesn’t know exists.

When Frankie, Melanie, and their friend Beanie pull a prank that spirals out of control, they make a discovery that could change the world forever. Melanie’s father was at the Roswell crash site, smuggled alien material out, and before his death, hid it somewhere. Now, the three teens must find the cryptic clues to uncover it, racing against time—and ruthless enemies.

With the Air Force desperate to keep their secret buried, and a relentless Russian agent eager to steal the technology for his country, Frankie, Melanie, and Beanie are thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse. As they get closer, the stakes grow higher—and the danger more deadly. They must find the alien material, but at what cost?

The UFO Detective: 5-Stars. DJ Schneider captures some of the very REAL truths about Roswell and delivers them in an entertaining novel.

Readers' Favorite: 5-Stars. If you're a fan of TV shows like Stranger Things, you're going to love The Roswell Quest. DJ Schneider masterfully incorporates real-life events to craft an engaging narrative that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

Night Owl: 5-Stars. I loved this book, plain and simple. The plot revolves around aliens, which I love, and had a great feel to it with the kids interacting in an honest, believable way.

A Note from the Author on Recent Developments about The Roswell Incident
Recent revelations by United States government officials, both current and former, have shed new light on the enduring mystery surrounding the 1947 incident near Roswell, New Mexico. Officials recently confirmed the recovery of an unidentified craft near Roswell in 1947. These revelations debunk decades of official denials and suggest that evidence of advanced technology was deliberately concealed. Authorities have long maintained a cover story by asserting that the debris was simply from an old weather balloon. A narrative crafted to prevent public panic and avoid potential geopolitical consequences.

This startling confirmation refreshes the debates over unexplained aerial phenomena and the possibility of encounters with spacecraft not from this earth. Congressmen, former military officers, and intelligence officials have called for renewed investigations into not only the Roswell incident, but also other similar documented events over subsequent decades. Public demand for transparency continues to grow, with researchers and citizens alike urging the government to release information about these events.

So, when you read
The Roswell Quest, know that this fiction has a foundation in fact, and is based on the truth.

About the Author

I love to write. I honed my creative writing skills first while studying creative writing at the San Francisco Art Institute, and then later at the Log Cabin Literary Center in Boise, Idaho with a writing group called the Magnificent Seven. I worked with Kelly Jones (The Woman Who Heard Color, Penguin Group), helping to edit her novel, The Last Madonna, and with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tony Doerr (All the Light We Cannot See, Simon and Schuster)-both instrumental in developing my craft. I also spent many years as a professional writer/producer in the advertising field for radio, television, and print, having owned an advertising agency at one point. I am a member of SCBWI, Alli, and NIWA (Northwest Independent Writers Association.Right now, I am nearing the Orion Nebula, conducting a little research for an upcoming Melanie Simpson novel and touring the universe on a spaceship with two of my novel characters, Orbit and Slug (you don't know about them yet, but will). When I finally set my feet on earth again, it will be in Oregon where I live, returning to what I call 'The Writing Cave.' There, under the light of a goose neck lamp, I will continue to work on Melanie's next great adventure, along with other novels.

So, you may want to ask DJ Schneider— How did your Melanie Simpson Series come about?

Here is his answer: One day long ago, when times were simpler, while I was meandering the halls of the local library I happened upon a book by Charles Berlitz and William Moore titled, The Roswell Incident. I became instantly fascinated and ever since have read everything I could find about the Roswell crash, the world of UFOs and the possibility of life on other planets. Do I believe Roswell really happened? Absolutely! I actually was a bit of a sceptic at first, but after extensive research I am a true believer that intelligent life exists out there. Thus, it made sense (at least to me) to combine my love of writing with my interest in the UFO world. And why not write a novel series in the young adult genre? Roswell, and so many other significant events surrounding UFOs happened in the 40s through the 70s. I felt it important to write a novel that brought this information to our newer generations in a fun, yet informative way. And, it has also turned out to be a great crossover with the baby boomers who lived in those times.

On the conventional side-- I love to write. I honed my creative writing skills at the Log Cabin Literary Center in Boise, Idaho with a writing group called the Magnificent Seven. I worked with Kelly Jones (The Woman Who Heard Color, Penguin Group), helping to edit her novel, The Last Madonna, and with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tony Doerr (All the Light We Cannot See, Simon and Schuster)—both instrumental in developing my craft. I also spent many years as a professional writer/producer in the advertising field for radio, television, and print, having owned an advertising agency at one point. I am a member of SCBWI, Willamette Writers, and the Gresham Writers.

Right now, I am nearing the Orion Nebula, conducting a little research for an upcoming Melanie Simpson novel and touring the universe on a spaceship with two of my novel characters, Orbit and Slug (you don’t know about them yet, but will). When I finally set my feet on earth again, it will be in Oregon where I live, returning to what I call ‘The Writing Cave.’ There I will continue work on Melanie’s next great adventure, and on another book I am writing called River of Dreams.

I've had this book sitting on my kindle for a couple of years now. On one hand, I wish I'd gotten to it sooner, but on the other I'm happy to have been able to experience it for the first time this week.
It's a charming story, full of likeable and well realized characters.
It's also a mystery and a thriller, which continuously twists and turns in ways I didn't expect. The twists keep coming right up until the end, which is a lot of fun. There's a lot of surprises on the way to a satisfying ending.
Appropriate for young adults, but not dumbed down for them. I really enjoyed this book and can recommend it highly.

Enjoyable, one sitting read that combines facts with mystery. The ending leaves you curiously pondering the artifact, its use, and Mels part. Heading for the next book to find out!

I met author DJ Schneider at a book recently and bought a copy from him. I usually don't read stories about UFOs and aliens, but the description of this book intrigued me. Now I'm glad I bought it. The story is about three teenagers who build a UFO and find themselves in a lot of trouble after they launch it. The characters and plot were developed well, and the story flowed well. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.

While attending the McMinnville, OR UFO Festival, the author approached me and gave me a copy of his novel – HOAXES ROSWELL.
First, I will admit to being a serious UFO Researcher. However, I am still a romantic at heart. I love an adventurous novel, and one about young people navigating the powerful emotions of the teenage years. Add in nostalgia for a better, easier time, and I was hooked.
Second, I enjoyed the way the author wove hoaxed events with reality. I know it’s rated as a YA, but I’m young at heart.
Third, the novel took some very important themes and delivered them in a story-line where I want more. When I hear the word “Roswell” I think of an ongoing 30 plus year investigation with around 600 witnesses who each have a piece of the puzzle. Spoiler Alert: It wasn't a crashed Weather Balloon next to a Parachute Dummy. DJ Schneider is doing something important – capturing some of the very REAL truths about Roswell and delivering them in an entertaining novel.
Without any giveaways HOAXES describes very well just how far the authorities will go to keep the reality of Contact a secret from the public. That cover-up is still going on, but that is another story. (Amazon censored my first review; it appears the Secret-Keepers don’t like evidence of their Cover-Up!)
So for me, HOAXES ROSWELL was great fun, but it contains important revelations. Roswell remains the mother-lode UFO event in the USA. Those who scoff at this idea either don’t know, or don’t want us to know the Truth.
DJ Schneider, more, please sir! -James E Clarkson, the UFO Detective

Frankie is enjoying his summer with his best friend Beanie when a new girl moves in next door. Melanie is fun and pretty. Frankie can't stay away. When the trio launch a fake UFO over the local lake, they end up with more trouble than they bargained for. This young adult novel is set in 1960s Lake Oswego, Oregon and is sure to entertain both young and old.

While I am well outside the demographic age target for this title, I had to read it since I grew up in the town it was set in. Granted my high school misadventures in Lake Oswego OR didn't start until 83 it was kind of a nostalgia trip since i had a frame of reference (actual knowledge in most of them) for almost all of the locations described in the story.

It is well written and quite enjoyable read, though I might be a little biased , I mean UFO's and LO? of course I loved it. I definitely identified with the characters , Mel is great!!

If you are a fan or your child is a fan of UFO's then it is definitely something that should be on the reading list. And if you from Lake Oswego OR then it should be required :)
Hope the author follows on with a sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars intriguing twist on the old Roswell UFO saga
Reviewed in Australia on September 8, 2022

This is a prequel to the YA Melanie Simpson Mystery series by D J Schneider. Melanie moves into town and makes friends with Frankie and Beanie, and this introductory installment is from Frankie's point of view whereas the main series is in Melanie's PoV (although I haven't read beyond the extract included with the prequel). It captures the YA perspective nicely.

The first five chapters are somewhat slow and there are also chapters/scenes that seem not to take the story forward although they do flesh out the characters and their relationships (also true for the extract from the sequel).

After that (so do keep going), things pick up and we have a plausible and well-constructed twist on the Roswell UFO saga - which also lingers into the main series.

All in all a good read, and highly recommended once we get past the slow start. It is appropriate for middle school, young adults and up.
