The Uncovered Policeman: Made for TV (Rags to Riches Book 9) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 41 ratings

An email from an old friend piques the interest of Rags the Uncovered Policeman (retired).

Hi Rags,
I have had a visit from an old neighbour of mine and Gill’s, from back in the day. A guy called Ian Francis. He works in the TV industry, something to do with making light entertainment programmes. He is looking for a venue to make a drama programme. He visited us but after we had talked it through we decided that we couldn’t offer consistent enough weather for making a drama over several weeks.
Consequently, I suggested your place in early spring might be better. He said he would get in touch. It all seems really genuine, unlike some of the documentary programs we get asked to participate in. Give him a listen.

Rags' place?
The popular holiday destination, L'Abeille Nue. A naturist resort in the French countryside between the historic cities of Carcassonne and Narbonne.

The Uncovered Policeman: Made for TV is the ninth story in the Rags to Riches series .

I was born in London, lived most of my life in the south of England. I only say that to excuse writing with a Sarff Lundin accint.

After a lifetime of not knowing what to do, RAF Officer, TV delivery driver, medical rep, trainer, computer guy … I'd even spent three summers running a naturist resort in Portugal. I decided to try something new and retired.

Lying by the pool in the South of France, a story started to take shape in my mind. Then the days got shorter, and the evenings longer, and I started to type. The string of random words turned into “The Uncovered Policeman.” Writing this story, I met the central characters, Bea being the most important. She nagged me into telling what turned into a series of 12 light, cosy romances with a cast of pleasant happy people, with quirky characters.

The New House trilogy, about a couple's first year of retirement in France, followed. “Almost a Year in Occitanie” - No, it is not autobiographical. OK, not very autobiographical.

More recently, Crooke and Loch launch their careers, solving mysteries and crimes in “The Summer of '71” and in a series of follow-up stories spanning the 1970s.

2020 marked the debut of another character … Melody. A lady of a certain age, a generous size and blinding intelligence, who first appears in "Problems and Passions."

The darkness of the great lockdown inspired some darker tales, for example "After The Event." As well as a few more escapist ones, such as "When The Music Stops" featuring the delightful Juliet Evans the singing solicitor

So much fun to be in the pool of extras for this short film making program. This was a very good stand alone story but is also a great continuation of the Rags and Bea saga.

A story about filming a TV show based on a series of books by Andrew Calow.Rags and Bea's place is needed for the show.If you've read Andrew's books you'll know why.If not,I highly suggest reading the trilogy of books first. This will add to the understanding of this story. There is also a neat surprise involving a character in the creative team Rags and Bea are part of as well. You'll have to read the story to find out who and what the surprise involves. After reading this you will wish this show was on Channel 4.Another great installment in this series.

These books never disappoint. If you read them in sequence, you feel the main characters are friends of yours. I really enjoy reading the series.

Only real issue is length - too short. In the author's normal colloquial style. Enjoyed it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from master storyteller Ted Bun

Ted has produced another great read in his ninth book in the Rags to Riches saga. Rags and Bea have become like friends over the years, it seems that no matter how much time may have passed, they can involve you in their lives again the instant you open the latest book in the series. The author has done his research and the insight into the making of a TV series and what naturism is really about, shines through on every page. I look forward to reading Book 10.
