Making Waves (Franklin U Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,504 ratings

Alex Larsen

Remy Duval was my high school crush and secret first kiss, but he’s also so much more. A painter, a tattoo artist, my best friend Bailey’s older brother…and Bailey’s sworn enemy. It was easier to keep my distance the past two years, but now that Bailey and I are attending Franklin University with him, I’m only drawn to Remy more. I should be loyal to my best friend, focus on classes and swim team, but the more I see Remy around campus, the harder it becomes to stay away.

Remy Duval

My brother hates me, but that’s no surprise. I’ll take the fall for ruining our family if it means doing the right thing. But as soon as my brother and his best friend show up on campus, I know I’m in trouble. Alex is all grown up, and I can’t help wanting him, especially when he’s in those tiny swim briefs that emphasize everything.

One kiss leads to more, and before we know it, we’re tumbling into secret, no-strings-attached hookups. But who knew Alex would understand me in ways few others have? And I think, just maybe, I understand him too.

I keep telling myself it’s temporary. Alex doesn’t want to disappoint his best friend, and after what my parents went through, I’m not looking to settle down. Making waves is nothing new, but the further I fall, the more I drag Alex in the deep end with me.

Fun read perfectly fittin to this series
Such a fun, romantic, best friend's brother story mixed in with a little swimming and art! Making Waves is the 7th, penultimate book in the shared universe series of Franklin U! The story fit perfectly into this university MM romance universe and still brought the uniqueness of the author with it. Remy and Alex's story builds upon the best-friend's-brother/brother's-best-friend trope with them having one moment together when they were teens before some things went sideways with Remy's family. And now that they are both finally at Franklin University the smothered sparks between them try to fly again. There were two very nice aspects to the character and relationship development in this book. One was obviously Alex and Remy's friendship and casual relationship. Well, casual because they both tried to convince themselves it was not serious because of all the bad blood between Remy and his brother Bailey who happend to be Alex's best friend and roommate. And the other, of course, is both of their relationships with Bailey which was a mess to be honest. I liked that all of these relationships were honest and imprtant. I liked all the side characters that helped bring the story along. I loved the swim team and the meets. I loved Remy's surrealistic art. I adored the little references to the other books in the series. It was just such a fun read! I enjoyed it a lot. It was easy to read, it grabbed my attention, it lifted my spirit with the romance in it. Perfect fit in the series. The writing style was a little bit different from what I like with much of 'step-by-step' descriptions and a bit too much detail in places. But I got used to it easily and it did not bother me after a time. Overall, Remy and Alex's sweet romance in Making Waves was a very enjoyable and fun read. I am a bit sad seeing the series approaching its end but I am also so happy I could be part of it and read it! Definitely one of my best MM read expereiences of the year, this Franklin U series!

Franklin U is shaping up to be one of my favorite series. And it’s even more special considering how many authors wrote this series together. I can’t stress enough how much I enjoyed the world they’ve built and the characters as well. Each author took so much care to portray the other author’s characters accurately and the attention to detail really showed. The tension between Alex and Remy built so steadily I ate it up. Remy’s tension with his brother only added to it. I loved watching them work their way through everything and seeing them all find a way to be happy. I’m beyond sad I’ll be starting the last book. I feel like I’ll need to revisit this world by listening to all of the audiobook versions I can lol. Obsessed I say!

Best Friend's brother... say less. This is one of my favorite tropes in a book, and Christina delivered.

Making Waves is book 7 in the FU series, and fit seamlessly into the world that has been built. This one didn't seem to be as cutesy as the other books in the series, but I didn't mind that. I was hooked on this story from the very beginning. As soon as I read the scene on the dock I knew I was going to fall in love with Remy and I did.

Alex and Remy's relationship wasn't easy from the beginning. Alex always had a crush on him, but was never sure how Remy felt. Remy is also his best friend, Bailey, older brother and knew acting on any feelings would be difficult. Bailey definitely didn't make things easy for them but these two couldn't stay away from each other. The chemistry was undeniable. I was rooting for them the entire way.

I felt for both of them. They each had their own issues and insecurities to work thorough. By the end they has grown so much as individuals and as a couple. As always I loved the little cameos and mentions of other FU guys we've met before. I really enjoyed Remy and Alex's story. It's a must read if you've been loving the entire Franklin U world as much as I have.

Each couple in this series has just been fantastic!!! This is my third book by Christina Lee and it was every bit as good as the others I’ve read! Brother’s BFF stories are kinda one of my weaknesses and this one was definitely great!!

This is a great idea that just didn't take fire for me. Alex and Remy were both likable enough, and their banter was cute, but somehow there seemed to be a disconnect.

And Remy's job at the tattoo studio was completely unrealistic. You don't just go in one day and snag a job carving ink into people's skin. There's the whole training/apprenticeship process, and any reputable shop owner is going to require some serious practice on non-human canvas before putting his reputation - and business license - on the line with an inexperienced artist.

Same goes with painting a wall mural. There's got to be a plan, and at least *some* gridding or something if only to keep the image to scale.

We're these details crucial to the actual plot? Maybe not. But they were crucial to Remy's character, and (obviously) yanked me right out of the story.

The high point for me, and the difference between a 2 and a 3, was the absolutely beautiful poetry Remy incorporated into his art. Just, wow. I wish there'd been more of that throughout the story, and less use of "funner."

This was my first story by Christina Lee. I'd consider another - like I said, great take on one of my favorite tropes - hoping to see a little more depth and a lot more research.

Moody antisocial Remy has to live with the fact that he broke up his parents marriage and his younger brother won't talk to him anymore. But now his brother and BFF Alex attend the same college making life uncomfortable since Remy still has a crush on Alex. Does Alex still feel the way he did that last morning at the lake before everything fell apart or has he moved on with his life? Does Remy have a future with his talent or is he destined to be washed up? Excellent.

Okay so this is actually one of my least few tropes….We have Alex and Bailey who are best friends. Alex has a crush on Remy who is Bailey’s older brother. There’s a falling out between the two brothers, but there’s something between Alex and Remy and they just want to go for it. The thing is this requires them to lie to Bailey. That whole situation is secondary to the budding relationship between Remy and Alex, but it still aggravates me when two people (Alex and Remy) really love and care for the third (Bailey), but blatantly and repeatedly lie to his face. Anyway, outside of all that drama (you have to read and see what it’s about), this was really good! I loved Remy, the broody artist and Alex, who was just really likable and an optimist. They were good together and this was just fun to read. Another great addition to the Franklin U series!

A série é muito boa e o casal foram muito fofos. Suas histórias de brigas familiares foi o tema deles, mas gostei demais de Remy e Alex. No começo achei o irmão de Remy um idiota, mas depois o compreendi. O casal são uns fofos. Recomendo.

Alex and Remy are flirty friends who have Bailey in common and an attraction that could fry an egg. Bailey is Remy's younger brother and he was a frustrating character who sulked the majority of the book over his parents split years ago and blames his bro. Seriously I could have told him to grow up he was that annoying. Both Remy and Alex were doing that only good friends rubbish until one of them said enough was enough we love each other. You Seriously need to read it.

I could not put this down, right from the start I was obsessed with both Remy and Alex and the chemistry between them!

This book was hot, and fun with a lil bit of drama thrown in near the end to give it some edge but otherwise a pretty lighthearted romance
  • Wide Eyes, Big Ears!
4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of conflict in this hard-won romance!
Reviewed in Australia on November 18, 2024
Alex Larson has always had a crush on Remi Duval, the older bother of his best friend, Bailey. Unfortunately, Bailey has never forgiven Remi for outing their father’s secret affairs and ending their parents’ marriage and Alex has struggled as the meat in the angry sandwich. When Alex and Bailey join the Franklin U swim team, it puts them in close proximity to Remi who has been studying art there for the last two years and there’s constant tension between the two brothers, especially when Alex secretly starts a FWB arrangement with Remi.

This sports / family drama romance is definitely the most serious of the FU series, most others are way more fluffy. Often the “best friend’s brother” trope has a fairly weak excuse for the secret relationship but Bailey’s irrational blaming of Remi felt strong, even though it was irritating at times. Christina Lee often makes her sweet and tender moments hard won and there’s a lot of conflict here: Bailey isn’t the only one damaged by the divorce; Remi finds it very hard to believe that any relationship will last and that puts Alex and Remi’s sizzling FWB chemistry under strain at times, even though they are really good together. 🎧 Audio narrator Iggy Toma was the perfect choice for this tense book, he always heightens the emotions with his vulnerable, sensitive voice!
