Metro Comes Home (Metro the Little Dog Book Book 1) Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 14 ratings

When Sherry decides she wants a puppy, she finds Metro, a tiny, engaging puppy at the local animal shelter. It’s love at first sight for both of them, and when Sherry takes Metro home and introduces the playful puppy to Butterscotch, Sherry’s long-time cat, the three become a family. Metro helps plant a veggie garden, takes a walk at midnight, and even goes ballroom dancing!

Metro Comes Home is the first in a series of beautifully illustrated children’s books about Metro’s fun-filled doggy adventures. These stories were written to honor the memory of a lovable little dog named Metro and all the wonderful dogs who grace our lives.

About the Author

Susie Slanina lives in Vancouver, Washington. After graduating from California State University, Los Angeles, she went to school in Ireland to study the Montessori approach to educating children. She worked 24 years at CSLA and retired at age 50 to spend more time with her dogs in a cabin in Big Bear. She had been retired for eight years when a poem she wrote about a spider became the catalyst for the Metro book series. She used to enjoy traveling, but discovered that hanging out with her dogs is better than seeing the wonders of the world. Follow the adventures of Metro the Little Dog through several chapter books. The first time I purchased the book it was to support a writer of children's books. . . and then I started to read it and it grabbed my heart to the point that I had to buy additional copies to give as gifts to family and friends to share Metro's great adventures. The fact that each chapter was written to be inclusive for children's imaginations through the animal's eyes certainly struck a chord with my animal lover heartstrings. Humor and wit abounds on little paws leaving tell-tail grins where ever Metro and Sherrie meander. From then on I had to have the collection and look forward to more books from Susie Slanina. For generations to come, Metro will be a star hitched to the galaxy of young and old readers alike. Can't wait for a future book from Ms.Slanina about Metro going "snuba diving". . . sea creatures and a mergirl think Metro will make a very big splash in their world too. So don't stop reading at the first book. . . there are plenty more adventures for all ages to explore. BRAVO, METRO!!! YOU ARE A SHINY AND VERY BRIGHT STAR IN THE GALAXY!!! Ms. Slanina, Metro can't wait to walk more destinies, through infinity, with you! Hope many wishful blessings come your way.

Our family loves Metro. The stories are sweet, simple, and endearing. My 11 year old son enjoys them as quick, easy reading to take his mind off of his stresses, and my four year old son just plain adores everything about Metro. The chapters are the perfect length for reading several before bedtime without losing his interest.
Metro's such a sweet character that our 4 year old has adopted Metro as his imaginary playpal doggy; he imagines Metro comes over often to stay the night, as long as Sherry allows her to, to help him not be afraid of the dark. She's a comfort to him even when we're apart~ Metro stays with me when we're apart, and he keeps Woof (his other imaginary dog) with him. Apparently Woof & Metro can communicate even when we're apart. :)

My two children have truly enjoyed the adventures and comparison of their own with their furry family members to that of Metro and Sherry.
I love how I also can relate to the joy of having a beloved friend and companion through pet ownership. I appreciate the author's message to also be aware of our surroundings and help promote a healthy environment and interaction with those around us. Very sweet and educational!

The other books in the series are also creative and just as endearing as more friends both human and animal are added along the way. My kids not only love Metro, but Butterscotch is another favorite too!
How refreshing to bring kids back to the roots of play and adventure! Well done and BRAVO~

Susie Slanina has a writing style that is fresh and sparkly, with ways of interpreting her little dog's behavior that had the animal-lover in me saying "I never thought about it quite like that, but that's it exactly!" I would encourage all parents of young readers to offer this darling book to their children. In addition to helping children learn how precious our furry babies are, the story will very likely have a gentling effect on the heart and spirit of anyone who goes on this sweet journey with Metro and her forever mom.

I love how Metro Comes Home shares adventures with her little dog. Children can read and learn about taking care of pets as well as what pets give back to their owners. There are a lot of life long messages that can be taken form this book. This book is 100% safe for all children which as a parent I greatly appreciate.

You're in for a merry adventure with this captivating series! They have a heart warming quality as Sherry learns about love and trust with her new companion. Metro, an adorable little dog will teach Sherry how to be present. Something our children dearly need in a world with so many screens.
