Mint to Be: An Opposites Attract MM Romance (Boyfriend Café Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 143 ratings

I’ve given up on love by the time tall, dark and handsome sweeps me off my feet — literally.

Mal

Everyone around me is sickeningly in love. And I’m happy for my friends. I really am. But when is my turn coming? Why am I still a disposable hookup?

I’m ready to give up on love entirely by the time a bunch of drunk jocks decide to jump me on my way home from the Boyfriend Café. But before a single punch can fall he sweeps in, my dashing hero, my literal tall, dark and handsome, the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen.

Please tell me this isn’t a dream.

Omari

The second I hear a scream I run toward it without thinking. My own teammates are threatening someone, and I rush in to stop them. But the man I save is … beautiful. And funny. And smart. And he brazenly gives me his phone number right then and there.

He has no idea that he just gave his number to the most hunted man at this university.

I’m Omari Carter, a football player everyone assumes is destined for the pros. Scouts are hounding me. Coach is pushing me to decide on my future. My whole family is depending on me. But Mal doesn’t know or care about any of that.

With all the expectations weighing me down, I don’t have time for love. So why can’t I walk away from this?

“Do you have, um, football guy stuff in the morning?” I say.

“No. Get to sleep in on Wednesdays.”

“Oh.”

I shuffle my feet. Swallow. Wonder how and when I became so miserably bad at this. I used to be a lot more charming, I’m sure of it, but right now, it feels like the only weapon in my arsenal is brutal bluntness.

Well, I can’t get more alone than I already am, right? Might as well go for it.

“In that case,” I say, barely able to breathe between words, “maybe you … want to check out the condo?”

I cringe at my own words. Lame! Why would he want to check out a building that’s exactly the same as his own? Oh my God, can I get any less cool?

Yet that creeping smile on Omari’s lips stretches a little wider. “Yeah,” he says, “I do.”

I stand there breathless for a moment, gaping up at his dark eyes, my lips falling softly open. Did he say yes? Did he actually say yes? Did that horrible line really work? Is he—

My thoughts are still whirling when he steps forward and sweeps me into a kiss.

This is the fourth in the Boyfriend Cafe series, probably my favorite so far. Lots of spice and well written tastefully as usual by Mr. Ray. Book five just came out apparently so Im anxious to continue reading.

Mint to Be by F.A. Ray is book 4 of the Boyfriend Cafe series. This is an opposites attract contemporary romance. Think happy nerd meets grumpy and conflicted star football player. While this can be read as a standalone, it makes for a better reading experience to read them in order.

Mal is on the way home from his job at the Boyfriend Cafe one night when he's confronted by some drunk football players. Luckily, one of their teammates is able to step in and save him. After inviting him to the cafe, they begin a hook up relationship. Even though Mal wants more and can tell Omari does too, Omari is very hesitant.

Omari feels like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He's an incredible football player but his heart isn't in going pro. He wants to finish his culinary degree and follow his passion. The expectation of others interferes with his potential relationship with Mal. He's the bright spot in Omari's life but he can't seem to find the balance. He's the only person in his life that doesn't have these big plans for his life. He just has to figure out how to finally do what's right for him.

These men have CHEMISTRY. Like 5/5 on the heat scale. But they also have actual chemistry too. This author does a really good job with character and world building. Seeing characters from former books being woven into this story was nice; I love getting little updates for them.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes sports romance. There's high heat, low angst, and a HEA.

I loved Mint to Be by F.A. Ray. It's the fourth book in the Boyfriend Cafe series. I loved Omari and Mal's story. I loved their chemistry and how they met. I loved how Mal and Scott helped Omari see that he didn't have to do something just because he is great at it if he doesn't have the passion to do it and that he has the right to pursue something that makes him happy, like cooking and dating Mal.

I have really enjoyed the previous books in the Boyfriend Cafe series, but this one just didn’t work for me. The repetitive nature of them hooking up, Omari running and ghosting, and Mal being hurt was just too much for me. I didn’t like what Omari was doing and I didn’t like that Mal kept letting him. The final 10% of the book was really cute and sweet, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the rest. This book had low angst, high heat (they had a lot of hookups!), and an HEA.

This is a grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, nerd/jock book about Mal and Omari. I didn’t like what Omari was doing and I didn’t like that Mal kept letting him.

Mal and Omari have off-the-charts chemistry from the moment they meet. They have very different personalities. Mal is a flamboyant nerd and Omari is a quiet, shy, football jock. While Mal is looking for a permanent relationship, Omari starts out conflicted by the fact that he has a lot of stressors and pressures in his life mostly about football and a possible professional career which are tugging him in different directions. He is pretty much living each moment as it comes and thinking he'll deal with the tough decisions later as they come, including his hesitation about committing to a serious relationship with Mal even though he can barely stop thinking of him and knows what they have is more than a casual thing. He doesn't want to hurt Mal if he has to leave him at some point because of football. All these things are tearing him up with conflict. With the love and help of Mal and his friends and family, Omari finds the right course for him and the strength to take it. I loved the relationship between Mal and Omari, very hot attraction but really all about the love. Great character development, both the main and side characters. This was an excellent and enjoyable story!.

Every Boyfriend Cafe book is great, and each one better. I absolutely adore Mal. I actually started appreciating his character in previous books and my adoration has grown. My heart ached for him watching all his friends and found family find their partners and fall in love, while he longed for the same. It was wonderful seeing him connect with Omari. The connection was complete and sensual. They burned up some sheets.

I also like how throughout this series the author adds depth to the stories by making them about more than just romance. The real-life struggles the characters face add so much value. I felt as though I got to know Omari better than any of the other Boyfriend Cafe partners. His character was multi-layered and well-developed. All of the characters in this series have been well-defined and they all bring joy and entertainment.

My favourite thing about this book (and series) is the emotional intelligence of most characters and how they still manage to create engaging and diverse people and plot lines without any undue angst.
