Miss Adventure Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 775 ratings

In Geralyn Corcillo's award-winning debut novel, heroine Lisa Flyte charges into adventure, just trying to get life right.

After a freak fast-food accident makes hopelessly average Lisa Flyte into a joke in the tabloids, she decides it's high time to take control of her life and make it count for something. But how on earth is she supposed to do that when she's not particularly good at anything? Turns out, adrenaline junkie Jack Hawkins from her MBA class just happens to be looking for someone who's not an expert... at anything. He needs someone to test the new line of adventure gear he's designed for the absolute beginner, and Lisa seems perfect.

But Jack soon discovers that Lisa is more trouble - and fun - than he expected. The two of them barely survive their bumbling adventures in the wild, but getting to know one another seems a lot more risky... especially when they start to fall for each other. Can Lisa handle someone like Jack? Or maybe the better question is... Can HE handle HER?

I picked this book up on the heals of a book that I could not finish. Not the best time to try a new author. I was more than pleasantly surprised.

Some may call it a Rom Com but it is a well told story about a woman trying to overcome the baggage of dysfunctional family and a failed engagement. She turns to someone she thinks is strong to teach her courage. fortunately for the plot but unfortunately for her his family was just as dysfunctional and he is carrying his own baggage.

The story moves well and the plot though predictable (admit it in some stories we want predictable) is fun. There are laugh out loud moments in the book as well as some surprising introspection. I think most will relate to the characters as well as cheer them on. This appears to be this authors first novel. I think we can look for more good things from her in the future. I routinely check new author's websites and it looks as though she has other significant experience in writing and a husband that is a comedy writer. So I think she may have a good feel and sounding board for this type of book. By the way, the title does not refer to sex. When you read the book you will realize why she chose it.

Ms. Corcillo my only suggestion would be get a better cover. This one does not do your book justice. If you like your humor twisted and full of pathos with characters with plenty of character flaws this is a must read (It has to do with the main character facing her fears).

Warning if you are offended by swearing this book may not be for you as the main character at times would do a sailor proud (this from ex sailor so I have a point of reference). I felt that was correct for the character and the situation so I found it fine within the context it was used. The sexual situations were also appropriate to the plot and the description of these encounters was pretty much PG 13. I have problems with profanity for profanities sake however do not have a problem when it is appropriate to the character and the situation. Some may disagree.

The major character, Lisa (I would expect another name more corresponding to her nature, like Daisy, for example), is written, really well - she is "alive", charming, reasonably crazy yet unpredictable. The author made it believable that her values have not been changed with a lot of money that she got. She is lovable and capable to love not only Jack (whose name does not suit him too) but her family (which is not so loyal to her), her friends, and the entire humanity. For the first novel published, the theme and the characters are very good, and the book is very attractive, I read it practically non-stop.
Jack is not as convincing as Lisa, especially in the last quarter of the book, his speech at the press conference does not seem convincing to me, this is some other person. But the author seems to be quite capable to learn, and I am sure that in the next book the male character will be much deeper.
In my opinion, the author has a great potential to become a best-selling author, the theme is intriguing, descriptions are captivating, the reader can imagine vividly many things that are described both in the nature and in the human behavior.
Congratulations to the author! I hope soon we will read another book, even better than this quite good one. Thank you for the pleasure of reading your book, this happēns not too often in the contēmporary fiction.

As a personal trainer, this book seemed right up my alley and I was not disappointed! The action started on page one and continued until the last page. I read this book every free moment I had and finished it in just a few short days. I love quirky characters and Lisa Flyte fit the bill perfectly. Her relationship with Jack proves that sometimes your quirkiness is what might attract someone to you. Jack loved anything and everything about someone as over the top as Lisa, and i loved that about him. The more she did, the more he was drawn in. And Jack is the perfect man to put up with Lisa's drama. He had such a calming manner to him.
I loved the hiking, airplane jumps, and climbing, since I've done them myself, and the author wrote them very well. All supporting characters were on target and I loved how they interacted with Lisa. Great job in creating interesting characters and story lines. I cant tell you how many times i laughed out loud, especially at some of the lines jack threw at Lisa when she was losing it. Highly recommend if you want to feel alive, laugh, and take an adventurous ride!
I was sad when the book ended. Not just because I'd miss the characters, or the book itself, but because I will miss the way the book made me feel inside: Happy, and just full of laughs and smiles all day long. I plan on reading many more books by this author.

This is an ok book but I feel it could have been much better. I think the story was too long. Way too many situations happening to the lead character. I want to read something that is somewhat plausible even if it's comedy. I also want to read about a woman who isn't a door mat. Yes, she gained some spunk that last part of the book. She wants to conquer her fears but she can't stand up to her mean and abusive family. She doesn't have any self respect. She sleeps with the H even though she feels he's not really into her.

This is the story of Lisa and Jack.

After a freak accident which involved a burger joints roof collapsing on her car, Lisa decides she needs to start enjoying her life... Intro... Jack.

Jack lives life to the fullest. He hikes and jumps out of planes and Lisa wants to be just like him so they make a deal. He will teach her to be brave and she will test his adventures equipment for beginners.

While they battle through family problems and Lisa's unwanted fame, this leads to a number of hilarious moments that leave you wanting to cheer for Lisa and often wanting to punch Jack.

The book is very well written and the characters are totally believable. They are in no way perfect and at times you want to scream at Lisa, telling Jack isn't good enough. Despite his flaws he pulls through in the end bringing their romance to a very satisfying conclusion. Which I am extremely happy about since I only like happy endings.

While I think the climax to the book could have done with a little more explanation as to how Jack arranged it all it is still a very good story that will make you laugh and leave you happy. (The big foot bit is now permanently etched in my memory and still makes me giggle)

All in all its a very good book and well deserving of a read

How do you overcome your fears?

Perhaps you look at a spider close up. Or, speak in front of a crowd.

For Lisa, though, it means literally chasing down the only adventurer that she knows, over hill and dale (and a few big rocks) to beg for his help. In a skirt.

After spending months in a coma (which is actually a fair assessment of how she merely went through the motions of living before the accident), Lisa has decided to plunge into life with gusto. To take the bull by the horns. To…well, you get the point.

Problem is, she doesn’t always think her plans through. Nevertheless, once she’s decided on a path, she’s ready for the trip. (If only she can remember to pack her self-confidence and common sense. And, possibly, long underwear.)

For his part, when Jack the adventurer takes on this unusual woman, he doesn’t know what he’s in for. He may be a rough-and-ready instructor when it comes to the outdoors, but Lisa teaches him that there’s no way to prepare for someone who can make you laugh with the same degree of skill with which they can piss you off.

The author writes in an engaging, first-person voice, inviting the reader inside the funny, profane and sometimes bizarre musings of her main character.

Like Jack, sometimes we can only watch helplessly as she throws herself wholeheartedly into disaster, when we really want to yell, “Stop! No! Don’t! At least bring a warm coat!”

But with her zaniness offset by warmth and good intentions, Lisa is a heroine you can cheer for. Right after you yell out to her, “Watch out for that rock!”

I loved this book so much. I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down. I ignored my family for a couple of days, giving all of my spare attention to it. Lisa and Jack are the most gorgeously flawed characters. It's genuinely funny and heart-warming.
