Mistletoe and Mr. Right (Moose Springs, Alaska Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 1,985 ratings

"Fresh, fun and romantic."—SARAH MORGAN, USA Today bestselling author of A Wedding in December

How the moose (almost) stole Christmas.

Lana Montgomery is everything the quirky small town of Moose Springs, Alaska can't stand: a rich socialite with dreams of changing things for the better. But Lana's determined to prove that she belongs…even if it means trading her stilettos for snow boots and tracking one of the town's hairiest Christmas mysteries: the Santa Moose, an antlered Grinch hell-bent on destroying every bit of holiday cheer (and tinsel) it can sink its teeth into.

And really…how hard could it be?

The last few years have been tough on Rick Harding, and it's not getting any easier now that his dream girl's back in town. When Lana accidentally tranquilizes him instead of the Santa Moose, it's clear she needs help, fast…and this could be his chance to finally catch her eye. It's an all-out Christmas war, but if they can nab that darn moose before it destroys the town, Rick and Lana might finally find a place where they both belong…together.

Heartwarming and Hilarious Holiday Romance!

Heartwarming and Hilarious Holiday Romance!
Four months ago, I had the pleasure of reading a copy of Sarah Morgenthaler’s first book (The Tourist Attraction), and I adored it. I was beyond delighted when I also received a review copy of Mistletoe and Mr. Right, which releases next month. I’ll start off by saying that even if I hadn’t read The Tourist Attraction, that I would have still happily read this book, because I have a HUGE weakness for holiday romance. The fact that I already knew I liked this author’s writing style and the world she created only made me even more excited to curl up with my Kindle and devour this book-and it did not disappoint. I know this book is categorized as a romantic comedy, but it was so much more to me than that. Don’t get me wrong- it has the perfect amount of hilarious moments, but this story also dealt with real-life issues, and gave me all the feelings. Lana Montgomery is first introduced in The Tourist Attraction- as Zoey’s super-rich, work-comes-first, dresses-wrong-for-the-Alaskan-weather best friend. While it was made clear that Lana was a good friend with a good heart, I wasn’t completely sold on her character, didn’t quite trust her. This book changed that. Getting to see her perspective on her life, which looks perfect and glamorous on the surface, is actually quite lonely and very lacking of any true happiness. She’s truly willing to do anything for this town and its people- whether that be throwing all her heart and effort into throwing a beautiful and extravagant Christmas party for Moose Springs (only for no one to show up) or promising to capture the elusive and destructive Santa Moose. When she accidentally shoots Rick Harding with a tranquilizer dart is when we really start to see their relationship develop. Sure, we see them exchange some restrained flirty banter before this point, but this is truly the starting point of something more between them. Rick Harding is a divorced man, who lives with his orphaned nephew and pet cat and pet hedgehog. He spends his nights eating cereal for dinner and worrying about being behind on his pool hall rent. He is a working-class man who is instantly enamored with Lana...but a guy like him has no chance with a girl like her...right? The more time they spend together, the more they realize that there is something real and exciting between them. Because Lana is never in one place for long, they decide to have a holiday fling- with a clear expiration date. Each thinks they’re only destined to break the other’s heart and believe that by setting an end date, that both with escape unscathed. Love doesn’t follow rules, though, as they soon discover. I loved so many things about this book. I loved that despite appearing very different that Lana and Rick actually had a lot in common. They’re both lonely people who would do absolutely anything for the ones important to them. It’s clear from the beginning how much Rick adores Lana, and it’s so painfully obvious of how unaccustomed she is to people truly caring about her and having her best interests at heart without a hidden agenda. Lana and Rick go through a lot together, including an unsettling but hilarious date at a taxidermied squirrel riddled B&B, Lana’s insecurities about never fitting in in the one place she feels at home, some issues with Rick’s surly nephew, and more. Through it all, the way they’re there for each other makes it undoubtedly clear that these two are absolutely meant to be. This was a charming small-town romance that had cozy, wintery, Christmastime vibes. While Lana and Rick falling in love was a big part of the book, it wasn’t the only one. There were several side stories- the Santa Moose, Diego, and Lana’s cringeworthy family that stirred things up and kept the story interesting and gave it more of a real feel. I highly recommend this to anyone who has read and enjoyed The Tourist Attraction, people who prefer to read romances that focus more on attraction, feelings, and relationship development than sex, and to anyone that enjoys holiday and/or small town romances with a dash of humor. I now consider this author one of my favorites, and cannot wait to read more of her work in the future.

I adore this series. I picked it up because I live in Alaska and enjoy reading books set here. I love the small town of Moose Springs and the people who live there. In book one we had the story of Zoey, (a tourist), and Graham. In this book we have Lana, (a businesswoman who was the friend who invited Zoey), and Rick. Lana is old money rich. Her family is involved in a project to bring condos to the town. Her heart is in saving a town that she has loved since childhood and is her refuge. Graham, Rick and the rest of the town don’t necessarily see it that way. They aren’t fond of tourist, (I live in a tourist community..this is a true sentiment), but most realize they need them to survive. This is an argument I have heard time and again where I am located so the author is accurate on that. Rick runs a pool hall for the townspeople. He barely makes enough to keep it going. He is quiet, kind of shy and nursing a broken heart that is made of gold. Lana is the opposite. Outgoing, confident, business first, never had a real romance. The two of them falling in love was a difficult romance. Both were protecting their hearts and, I think, each other’s. I wasn’t certain it was really going to be more than a holiday fling for much of the book.
There is a Santa Moose situation that, honestly, I hope returns. In the first book we have a moose named Ulysses. He was taken away, (though a friend pointed me in the direction of book 2.5 which brings back Ulysses). I really hate losing the moose. The are amazing creatures. Rick has a few adorable pets, (one a hedgehog), that were a fun part of the book. There is also a laugh out loud, tears streaming, episode with a squirrel themed B&B.
I had a good time reading this. I love the characters. I am hoping that Lana’s cousin who is injured in this book, makes it through and comes to Moose Springs. I’m kind of feeling him and Ash. The next book is about Easton. That should be fun.
No book appeals to everyone. This book has a lot of mixed reviews. I would advice getting a sample if you aren’t certain. I was entertained and, as I like Lana and Rick, I was invested. I hope if you try it, you enjoy it too.

Mistletoe and Mr. Right is a sweet, small town romance set in Alaska. Ever since I read The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker I’ve been looking for other novels that take place in Alaska and I’m so glad I found that in these books. There’s just something magical about the setting to me and I would love to visit the area one day!

That being said, I really enjoyed this novel. Some parts were a little too slow for me, but when I get down to the bones of the book and everything it’s about, I loved it to pieces. Rick and Lana are complete opposites with her being the prodigal daughter of a billionaire family and he being just a small town guy just trying to get by. One wouldn’t think these two would work well together but I guess the saying that “opposites attract” is true! They were perfect together!

If you’re looking for a heartwarming, sweet, and cleaner romance then this is the book you should be picking up! I recommend it wholeheartedly.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞

🌲 Rick was just the sweetest hero! He’s a bit shy, but that’s what makes him so endearing. I love reading about quieter men (I don’t always need an alpha!) and he was PERFECT within this role.

🌲 The setting of the book (Moose Springs, Alaska) is vividly depicted within the story. Gosh, I felt like I was there myself and all I had to do was read words! If it were a real place, I’d gladly visit! Not only that, but it’s also a small town and I LOVE small towns!

🌲 The book as a wonderful and uplifting happy ending. As a romance reader, I’ve come to expect happy endings in romance (it’s the norm of course) but sometimes I want something that FEELS different and this one did.

🌲 Lastly, the animals in this book were amazing! From the Santa Moose that ruins the towns decorations to a cat called Roger who gives the stink eye and a hedgehog who likes Christmas sweaters! I loved them so much!

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞

🌲 Mistletoe and Mr. Right was a bit too drawn out. I don’t mind longer books but sometimes they don’t NEED to be as long as they are (like this one). I felt like some of the stuff in the middle was just a filler.

🌲 I felt like some stuff was unresolved. I wanted to hear more about Rick and Lana’s future and what happened with the moose! Perhaps the next book will have a few answers…

🌲 It wasn’t as Chrismtasy as I hoped it would be.

    𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗧 𝗨𝗣

Mistletoe and Mr. Right is the perfect book to cozy up with! If you’re sitting by the fire with a cup of hot tea this is the perfect book to pair those with! While there were a few pieces that were problematic for me, the story as a whole is a good one and it’s certainly worth the read!

Sarah Morganthaler strikes gold again with her second rom com from Moose Springs, Alaska, featuring a B&B filled with taxidermied squirrels, a rampaging Santa moose and a kind hearted pool hall owner whose billionaire landlord is more interested in his heart than his rent. Impossible to beat The Tourist Attraction's high bar, but close enough! Excellent stocking stuffer material!

As much as I was excited to return to Moose Springs I didn’t know whether I could possibly love this book as much as Graham and Zoey’s. I needn’t have worried if anything I loved it even more.

We met Lena in the first book, The Tourist Attraction and she certainly made some waves. Lena continued ruffling feathers in here in her own book but it was really good getting to know her so much better. Rick was honestly a breath of fresh air. He wore his heart on his sleeve. I really loved that he was so willing to be honest about his feelings.

I throughly enjoyed my time in Moose Springs again. I laughed, I cried and I swooned which is exactly what I want from a good book. I am already looking forward to the next one.

The tone of this story is much more serious than the Tourist Trap. I imagine it was a challenge to give Lana a love interest outside of her “crowd”. But the love of all things Moose Springs wins in the end.
