- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2018These six books are great short cozy mysteries. Lady Margaret is a likeable main character: confidant, determined, and reminds me of Miss Marple. I love her relationship with Detective Tom Sullivan...a love/hate relationship. The books are quick reads. There is some humorous moments as Lady Margaret pushes on to find the murderer despite what Detective Sullivan tells her. The are set in a quaint small village you would love to visit and stay at Lady Margaret's B&B. This book set is great to have with you for those times when you find you have and hour or two and maybe don't have your current novel with you. A bibliophile's perfect take along.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2019I enjoyed the stories, although they could have been fleshed out more. They seemed too short. The rivalry and working relationship between Lady Margaret and Detective Sullivan was well done. However as with all the books I have read written as e-books, the proofreading is second rate.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2018I loved the boxed set because I could just read the series at one go! While I'm new to reading these "shorts", I found them quite enjoyable! Lady Margaret Turnbull sure is a character!!!
What I loved about the books is CT Mitchell's conversational style which just pulls you in and you roll with the flow. His characters are interesting and the stories have interesting plots. Lady Margaret Turnbull is quite the character in that she can put her nose where it doesn't belong and yet still find information the police couldn't! It's a fun read, especially when she gets a little snippy with those who are impolite!
The stories are fun, relaxing reads... While I'm usually a "fat book" person, I did enjoy these as a change of pace. You will enjoy these stories as they are fun and to the point.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2018Normally I do not leave Book reviews, however I am making an exception this time because I really enjoyed this short series of six stories. C T Mitchell has done an excellent job writing six short but intriguing stories. Each one of them had a different storyline and different solutions for the murder. This is not always the case, many times one story reads very similar to the last. Since I am now older, I enjoy having older characters in the book also. The books all contain a good mystery, humor, and interesting characters. I am looking forward to reading longer novels from Mitchell.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2018The writing is poor, switching unexpectedly between past and present tense. There were obvious typos (a word that was spelled correctly but did not make sense in context). The stories skipped about - both in plot, and on areas where it appeared parts of sentences or paragraphs were deleted. The stories were shallow and contrived.
With a good editor and more development, this could have been an excellent series. Unfortunately the author did not take the time for that.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2018These stories were great. The only thing wrong with them was they were too short and not enough of them. These were extra short short stories, but extra good. You can finish them in one night, if you are on a tight time schedule. Keep reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2018I certainly enjoyed reading these unique short stories. They were fast paced and the main character Lady Turnbull was an extraordinary, addition as a solver of mystery. I loved her independent and sassy demeanor and the way she used calculated deductions in helping the police resolve a murder. I highly recommend this series to everyone who loves a goodintrigue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stories, delightful main character
I enjoy CT Mitchell's books very much. This box set is very good value for the money. Lady Margaret is a delightful character. She does not sit around on her duff living off her late husband's money. She runs a bed and breakfast and a cooking school and also dabbles in being a part-time amateur detective. The characters in the books are well rounded out and the stories are intriguing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs more work
These stories left me a bit baffled. They seem more like sketches, not something that's ready for publishing.
The stories usually start well, the author can definitely write, but after a few pages I got the impression that he lost interest or ran out of time and just scrambled to find some sort of ending.
He lovingly explains details, for example how Lady Turnbull ended up in Australia, but when it comes to the mystery itself the stories are rather sketchy.
One thing that irritated me thoroughly was that the author doesn't bother to write down how his protagonist digs up her clues. She usually just phones the police detective to tell him what she found out - but a mystery story is right about that: "watching" the protagonist getting information, reading the conversations, trying to make sense of the clues. By omitting all these steps the author takes all the fun away.
There are no real endings, either. Just a few sentences mentioning an arrest. No showdown, and since the author doesn't take any time to build up an atmosphere there is no suspense at all.
Besides, Lady Turnbull's help is by no means indispensable. She doesn't unearth any clues the police wouldn't have come up with anyway.
And the books are sorely in need of a editor. Switches between past and present tense, scrambled sentences, missing words and lots of typos make the stories hard to read.
I give it two stars because, as I said, some paragraphs were really well written and the plots could be interesting if they were expanded a bit mroe, but as the stories are now they should have stayed in the author's personal notebook until he found the time to write them up properly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Murder
I enjoyed the stories. However, the spelling and grammar mistakes were really bad. Who ever proof read the stories, obviously did Not do their job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tantalizing
Each book was unique. Loved Lady Margaret and her intelligent sleuthing. The books kept me glued as there was never a boring moment. I also liked the fact that they were quick reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flirty, Light & Fun!
I really liked this inexpensive set of books. In shorter stories, it’s hard to create too much depth, but CT Mitchell does a good job, creating simple, fun stories that are a great distraction in our complicated and challenging world, with characters that immediately take shape from chapter one of the first book! Think ‘Murder She Wrote’ Light! If you want a bit of fun, without overtaxing your brain after a hard day, these are perfect! If you want Agatha Christie’s complex storylines, buy Agatha Christie!
