No One but You: A Novel (Silver Springs, 2) Mass Market Paperback – May 30, 2017
Purchase options and add-ons
Struggling to make ends meet after a messy divorce, Sadie Harris is at the end of her tether. Her waitressing gig isn’t enough to pay the bills let alone secure primary custody of her son, Jayden, a battle she refuses to lose. Desperate, she accepts a position assisting Dawson Reed—the same Dawson Reed who recently stood trial for the murder of his adoptive parents. Joining him at his isolated farm seems risky, but Sadie is out of options.
Dawson has given small town Silver Springs plenty of reasons to be wary, but he’s innocent of the charges against him. He wants to leave his painful past behind and fix up the family farm so he can finally bring his dependent sister home where she belongs.
As Sadie and Dawson’s professional relationship grows into something undeniably personal, Sadie realizes there’s more to Dawson than the bad boy everyone else sees—he has a good heart, one that might even be worth fighting for.

As per a Brenda Novak novel the writing was wonderful. The intricate web she creates around the characters and how she fleshes them out is amazing. Here we have some great character development.
Dawson I melted for immediately. He was strong yet vulnerable and determined. Determined to make his life where everyone doubted him. Determined to get his sister home and determined to show everyone he didn’t kill his parents. He was also determined to make his farm a success with hardwork and sweat. He was a nice guy that was misunderstood and he stood up for himself and those he felt were being treated wrongly no matter the consequence. And this is what he did for Sadie. Even when it meant having his life become more difficult he was there to support her and stand behind her. He gave her a job and didn’t back down no matter what her husband or soon to be ex did. He didn’t judge her when she acted nervous and wary around him he just was patient and kind. When she waffled about him and he understood disappointed but understood. He never left her in a lurch and was always there for her. When Sly took away Sadie’s security Dawson gave it back. He never pushed or asked Sadie for anything and let her lead the way in how their relationship would go. So when she waffled it did hurt to see.
Sadie was a strong character but frustrating at times. She was definitely beat down by years with Sly. Dawson helped to slowly build her back up. What I loved was her love for her son and her acceptance of Dawson. She was strong in her belief in him after she saw the man he once and looked past the rumors about him. She was a kind and hardworking woman.
These are two broken people fighting to come above the surface and thrive. One to see the past let him go and the other to be free of her husband and stand on her own two feet. they come together when both need it the most. Dawson gets to see there are people who will not judge and Sadie sees that there is someone who will believe in her and stand behind her no matter what the soon to be ex does. This gave her strength and for Dawson it made him feel grounded and like a person again. sly did a lot to these two and no matter what they stood strong together and stood up to him. Watching this and their relationship grow was wonderful and so well developed. Even seeing Sadie’s little boy and his relationship with Dawson shows you the man that Dawson was and warms the heart. A story about new beginnings and finding the one to heal you and give you strength and support. About finding the one you are meant to be with and finding your place.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSadie Harris is a young mother of a 5 year old son, Jayden. She is trying to raise him on wages earned at Lolita's diner. Her divorce isn't final yet and she is being stalked by her soon-to-be ex-husband who is trying everything he can to get her to come back to him, not because he loves her and their little boy, but because he can't tolerate anyone or anything that makes him look less than perfect. And he really is MUCH LESS THAN PERFECT! Sly is a police officer in the small town of Silver Springs. He is overbearing and egotistical and loves to punish people for his own pleasure even if they have done nothing wrong. He is abusive and manipulative to Sadie, but presents a totally different facade to the Chief of Police and his fellow officers.
Dawson Reed returned home to Silver Springs after being acquitted of the murder of his adoptive parents. He has always professed his innocence and the jury believed him, but most of the residents of Silver Springs are not sure. Many think he is guilty. When he advertised a job for a cook, housekeeper and caretaker for his mentally challenged sister, Sadie interviews for the job. Knowing Dawson's story, she is a little nervous, but Sadie needs a better paying job so she can save enough money to be able to move somewhere that Sly can't find her.
Once again Brenda Novak has written a book with well-developed characters and a story line that keeps you turning the pages. It captured my interest from Chapter One and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. It had just enough twists and turns to keep the excitement going. I loved everything about this book. I had to keep reading to see what would happen next. Like all of Brenda's books, I hated for it to end. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBrenda Novak has been a longtime favorite author. I started out reading her suspense novels which are more my favorite genre. But every once in a while, you need to relax a little. This is that book. This is book two in her latest small town series set in a mostly rural town named Silver Springs. At the center of the stories are boys or rather men, from an all boys ranch/school for troubled teens. You are introduced to the school and in particular, one of its boys in book one. Now book two centers around another graduate of the school--Dawson, and a Silver Springs resident--Sadie.
Sadie is a single mother, is in the middle of what looks to be a very complicated divorce and is looking for a way to be financially independent. Dawson has just come back to town, after being in prison for some time but a jury has found him not to be guilty. He's trying to rebuild his life in this very small town and needs assistance. Thus comes a job offer Sadie can't refuse.
Their lives become intertwined as they each fight to normalize their lives and put things back together. However, Sadie's soon to be ex husband is a respected town police officer who is not happy about their arrangement.
This begins some great tensions for everyone involved. Will they get to rebuild their lives? Will Dawson get his much deserved redemption? Will Sadie protect herself and her child? Or will the town be attending a funeral?
This book exemplifies one of the reasons I love Brenda Novak. It gets right into the action and it doesn't let up until the end. I absolutely loved every bit of the fast page turning ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I've read this year by far.
I've only read one other Brenda Nova book before but this one absolutely blew my mind. You've got your romance, thriller and mystery all tied up together. She really knows her characters, at points I felt like I was reading about my own life's history. You won't be able to put this one down.

It's been a while since I have read anything from Brenda Novak. I have no idea why though because I always love her books and this was exception.
Sadie is a single mum struggling to make ends meet. Her ex is making things as hard as possible and dragging out the divorce. In order to make more money she takes a new job with suspected but cleared murderer Dawson. Early on she realises he really is innocent but things take a turn for the worst with a stalker on her tail etc.
I found it took a little while to warm up to Sadie. She was very judgy about Dawson in the beginning of this and I kept wondering why she bothered taking the job if she was going to be so jumpy. Thankfully this aspect of her didn't last long and she became very likeable and in the end feisty. I loved when she told Sly exactly what had happened the night before, it actually made me laugh out loud.
Dawson was also very likeable. There was something vulnerable and kind about him from the start. He ended up the perfect love match for Sadie and it was really great reading with their friendship and then their love. I was definitely rooting for them the whole of the book.
I ended up loving the small town aspect of this too. It felt obvious that the police department would protect their own BUT I did internally cheer when Chief Thomas grew a pair.
My only real complaint (and why this isn't marked as 5 stars) is that the ending happened so quickly. The tension and the build up did not let up and it was edge of your seat type writing. However when the final confrontation happened it was a bit of a let down as it ended so quickly and I felt after Chief Thomas' previous behaviour, a little unbelievable. I honestly wanted it to be a little more traumatic for the main characters (that probably makes me sound mean lol).
Overall I really enjoyed this. It was a great story with great writing and characters.
I didn't actually realise this was a second in the series, I thought it was the first. Definitely can be read as a stand-alone though so don't worry if you haven't read the first.
I have already started the second and cannot wait to get stuck into it.
If you are a Brenda Novak fan then you will love this.
ARC received by Netgalley for a honest and non biased review. Thank you
