- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 20188/14/1689, Port Royal, Jamaica. Jonesy (lifelong family friend), had helped smuggle Lucretia (mother), ½ brother, Atia Crisp (17), & Livia (20, Atia’s sister) aboard the Aeolus (ship).
Cormac O’Malley (Atia’s father) had also planned to relocate them.
A storm had come up. The ship was trying to stay on course to no avail.
SNAP! A mast had broken in two.
Passengers were scared/panicked & headed to the main deck.
The ship was splintering & began to sink.
Survival of the fittest would have to prevail.
Capitaine Jean-Paul la Roche (40+, sugar merchant) & his crew were aboard the La Lune (France, brig).
Mason Sleemans (Dorcas’ advisor), Bill Chitty (city engineer), & Councilman White were making suggestion to Lieutenant Governor Dorcas Dewar about all the foreign ships being temporarily harbored in Port Royal. Tax them for their stayover.
Smith’s Alley landing. Esmeralda “Easy” Belford (widow) let Dr. Sander Strangewayes know Sheriff Tellam was holding the Sweet Dreams boat load of slaves who needed looked at.
Sheriff Tellam told Johan Magott he was going to confiscate the boat.
Councilman Bernard Coggshall had arrived on the scene.
In very poor health, Atia Crisp (Livia’s African sister), & Livia Crisp (Atia’s African sister) were grabbed by the thugs: Slasher Al, Big Fred, & Dogfish.
Swiftsure Tavern. Slasher Al, Mr. Coggshall, Big Fred, Dogfish, Theodore Binge, Captain Slazarelli, Capitaine le Gator Gar, Johnny Shipwash (thug), & Mr. Burghill were enjoying drinks & a card game.
What happened to Atia?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written sea adventure book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great sea adventure movie, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2015A nice book full of Swashbuckling Pirates, Captains, crooked magistrates, slave traders and damsels in Distress. It s a romance at its heart and as such I found it to be a tad predictable in the plot flow but the story was still enjoyable. I was able to follow along and really connect with Atia and her losses, first her mother and younger brother who perish in the shipwreck and then when she is separated from her sister Livia. I also liked the selflessness of the doctor throughout the story as he rushes to try and save people who are hurt, or doomed by their illness to die and being poor the majority of his patients cannot pay him but he helps anyway. This was a heartwarming character for me, not many of these are seen in these types of books. This book is the first in a series and it does well to set the stage for the next books to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2018I don't really know how to review this book(let)! On the one hand, Ii DESPISE books that just END,and this book definitely just ENDED! Each book in the classic trilogies and other series can stand on its own. This book doesn't! Reading this book is like reading the first 5 chapters in Les Mis,then finding the rest of the book ripped out! On the other hand, the book wss a fairly enjoyable read, for the short time it lasted,. There seems to be a classic good vs evil clash being set up too. There were an awful lot of characters introduced in a very short time, and with foreign names and nicknames, i was still having trouble sorting them out. The series is, I think, six books long. With this book being short, I'm guessing the others will be too. It could be packaged in two books that stand alone and would be better for it. Three stars. Would probably have been for if it were self contained!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2018Terriible. Hard to stay focused and more foul language than necessary. Didn't read too deep. Have better things to do with my time. Gets one star because I have to rate it. Could not get half a star which I think would have been too high.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2016I was very disappointed will not buy others buy this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2015Since I lived in Jamaica the names and places were nostalgic but the portrayal of the characters was very true to form. Will be reading the next one soon.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2015In this exciting book, which is the first in the series, we meet a pair of sisters that is trying to escape to safety on a boat when they encounter huge problems. A result of these problems is that they become enslaved. Then, throughout the chapters, we meet a large number of other characters, which are not easy to keep straight. This book deals heavily with pirates, boats, and ships, so if you aren’t versed in nautical terms and concepts, you may be a bit lost, as I was. However, the story is quite interesting and you can get a good feel for the main characters. There is also a lot of French spoken and some modern words thrown in, which offer a bit of help when trying to relate to the story more, and at times is quite funny. I would recommend reading this if you like pirate stories.
