No Quarter: Wenches - Volume 1: A Piratical Suspenseful Romance Kindle Edition

3.5 3.5 out of 5 stars 102 ratings

Released for the first time with illustrations! The adventures from No Quarter: Dominium continue with wenches! Volume 1 of 5 begins in 1689 Port Royal, Jamaica, where Atia Crisp is imprisoned, awaiting trial, while refugees from Strangewayes's plantation seek their new home. Guided by Capitaine la Roche, they face pursuit by the pirate hunter Big Dick and the perilous terrain of Bocas del Toro. Their future home of Sérénité hangs in the balance, complicated by the outbreak of war with France. Series Description: Behind every successful pirate is a cunning wench! In 1689, Atia Crisp finds herself imprisoned in the wickedest city on earth, Port Royal, Jamaica, while the refugees from Strangewayes’s plantation in the Blue Mountains are on the run and seeking a new home, deep in the Caribbean. Captain Jean-Paul la Roche must get them to safety and find a way to liberate the woman he loves while waging a war against the English with the pirate Laurens de Graaf. While besieged people suffer and starve, a group of women form a secret and illegal society deep from within the bowels of the city called: Wenches. A network that deals with smugglers, merchants, cutthroats and thieves. Dragged into the struggle for supremacy of the Caribbean, the women are divided and find themselves engulfed in bloodshed. The pirates of Port Royal and former enemies may be their only hope of escape. This edition was awarded the gold quality mark by BooksGoSocial, their highest award.

This was a fun work of historical fiction. It wrapped a lot of storylines together. My favorite was the thread with Atia Crisp. There were so many touches of humor through the story that made me smile as I read. Subtle things like character names, and less subtle things like witty dialogue. Plus, there was some great action scenes, and even a dash of romance, making it a well-balanced read.

The characters made this special for me as they were deep and had realistic motivations. The cast is large, but I didn’t have too hard a time following along. Fast pacing made this short read an afternoon delight. I’m fully intrigued and look forward to more parts, including the other series, that I now understand has the same characters.

I can easily recommend this fun, fast-paced historical tale.

Thoroughly enjoyable, pacey page-turner that is more character-driven than your average swashbuckler. Possessing a great deal of humor and an intricate plot spanning multiple story lines across the islands of the Caribbean, I have few reservations in recommending No Quarter- Wenches to anyone. The level of detail and research done into the locales, politics, lifestyle, and maritime practices of the 17th century is a vast improvement over some of Hollywood's more recent piratical offerings.

My only caveat with this new series is that when I first picked up the book, I did not realize that picking up the story threads and the sheer volume of characters would be extremely dependent on reading the previous series (which I did not know existed before I dove headfirst into this book). All the same, I did not find it impossible to follow the action and am looking forward to picking up the first series and exploring that before I move further onward.

The plot and characters are just not interesting. I think the author paid more attention to writing something to publish than to write something that would be a good read.

I don't do book reviews. I read too many to remember which one was which.
