Animal Farm Paperback – January 1, 2021
George Orwell - Animal Farm
Mr. Jones, of the Manor Farm is an irresponsible, careless farmer who enjoys the alcohol a little too much and whose animals suffer from his neglect. One day they are fed up and, following the ideals of animalism, they drive the humans, who live at the expense of the hard working animals, off the farm.At last, animals can build a free and just society in which the fruits of their labor belong entirely to them and in which everyone is equal.
Since the new order is threatened by enemies and traitors, a rigorous crackdown is being taken against them, and in order to preserve the young paradise, an appropriate administrative apparatus is needed, and of course not all animals are capable of this kind of work.
George Orwell's Animal Farm is a dystopian fable from 1945 in which the convinced socialist strongly criticizes Stalinism and the real implementation of communism.

About the authors
George Orwell is one of England's most famous writers and social commentators. Among his works are the classic political satire Animal Farm and the dystopian nightmare vision Nineteen Eighty-Four. Orwell was also a prolific essayist, and it is for these works that he was perhaps best known during his lifetime. They include Why I Write and Politics and the English Language. His writing is at once insightful, poignant and entertaining, and continues to be read widely all over the world.
Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell) was born in 1903 in India, where his father worked for the Civil Service. The family moved to England in 1907 and in 1917 Orwell entered Eton, where he contributed regularly to the various college magazines. From 1922 to 1927 he served with the Indian Imperial Police in Burma, an experience that inspired his first novel, Burmese Days (1934). Several years of poverty followed. He lived in Paris for two years before returning to England, where he worked successively as a private tutor, schoolteacher and bookshop assistant, and contributed reviews and articles to a number of periodicals. Down and Out in Paris and London was published in 1933. In 1936 he was commissioned by Victor Gollancz to visit areas of mass unemployment in Lancashire and Yorkshire, and The Road to Wigan Pier (1937) is a powerful description of the poverty he saw there.
At the end of 1936 Orwell went to Spain to fight for the Republicans and was wounded. Homage to Catalonia is his account of the civil war. He was admitted to a sanatorium in 1938 and from then on was never fully fit. He spent six months in Morocco and there wrote Coming Up for Air. During the Second World War he served in the Home Guard and worked for the BBC Eastern Service from 1941 to 1943. As literary editor of the Tribune he contributed a regular page of political and literary commentary, and he also wrote for the Observer and later for the Manchester Evening News. His unique political allegory, Animal Farm was published in 1945, and it was this novel, together with Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), which brought him world-wide fame.
It was around this time that Orwell's unique political allegory Animal Farm (1945) was published. The novel is recognised as a classic of modern political satire and is simultaneously an engaging story and convincing allegory. It was this novel, together with Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), which finally brought him world-wide fame. Nineteen Eighty-Four's ominous depiction of a repressive, totalitarian regime shocked contemporary readers, but ensures that the book remains perhaps the preeminent dystopian novel of modern literature.
Orwell's fiercely moral writing has consistently struck a chord with each passing generation. The intense honesty and insight of his essays and non-fiction made Orwell one of the foremost social commentators of his age. Added to this, his ability to construct elaborately imaginative fictional worlds, which he imbued with this acute sense of morality, has undoubtedly assured his contemporary and future relevance.
George Orwell died in London in January 1950.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2025A classic! This allegorical masterpiece still teaches me important lessons, even after this, my third reading of it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2025What a fantastic book!! So timely and made me really think!! Loved the concept and all the symbolism!!! I don’t remember this book from grade school but glad I read it. Fantastic!!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2025Political satire is the correct way of describing this. It was written very well and easily drew me in, wanting to know how it ends. The end left me stumped. The reality with which we have seen and experienced in life felt like this ending. What an imaginative way to present the seeming reality of life. This book left me with a lot of mixed feelings; mostly anger. The presentation of this satire is too real! Yes, it is definitely worthy of reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2025If you haven't read this classic its time. Great story of animal society. Parable of politics today? Enjoy the discussion that follows.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2025My daughter is obsessed with these books lately. They are easy to read and usually have a movie to watch after so I'd recommend these.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2025Really small book, and I use it for reading before bed. Great build quality.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2025Another amazing novel by George Orwell. Depicts how the rich keep getting richer and the poor only get poorer in a stunning depiction of the rich keep the poor under their thumb through manipulation and fearmongering.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2025I have seen this kind of situation in my everyday life, not just in the 1917 context. One may start from democracy and end up in autocracy; another may begin with a fancy version of socialism but end up in a weird, dictatorial setup.
So, leaders need to be nationalists — but more importantly, citizens need to be careful! The animals' dream of a just society (modeled on socialism or communism) is gradually twisted into a dictatorship. We, as leaders, seduce the public by promising equal justice and patriotism, but it often ends in strange forms of inequality that are visible even to a newborn. That's why we love to lead uneducated people who lack critical thinking — they’re easy to mislead, and when deceived, they don’t act.

5.0 out of 5 stars All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.
Great story! Nothing I say in this review can say anything that has not already been said better by so many people before me. Therefore I will just say that this specific clothbound classic edition is of the quality and beauty worthy of this classic story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Story line is really fascinating.
Story line is really fascinating in terms of how Orwell built the whole imaginary world but yet logical and convincing.
- GWReviewed in Japan on January 20, 2025
5.0 out of 5 stars Whimsical and Relevant
Even though this story was originally inspired by the 1917 Russian Revolution, the characters in the story are timeless. So much of the corrupt behavior in the story can be found in today's headlines with ease.
It is especially important to follow the character of Boxer. Boxer just believes, believes and believes, and his exit from the story is some really powerful writing.
In fact, an observation of George Orwell's writing is important in many places. My second reading of this book gave me clearer understanding of the story, and my third reading brought me a real appreciation for George Orwell's writing abilities.
This is not a story made for kids, as many believe.

I love the way the story gets told and you can progressively see how the animals really don’t change they’re lives
