Clear tools for agile transformations - March 30, 2021 | Henny PortmanThe book Purpose Driven People - Create business agility & sustainable growth written by Alize Hofmeester is actually three books in one. On the one hand, it is a short business novel in which we are introduced to Tess and her colleagues. They share their experiences as members of the transition team of an organizational transformation. On the other hand, the book offers an extensive description of the various components of the People Journey Circle. Hofmeester regularly refers to the experiences from the business novel. Finally, the third element is a set of cases in which the various components of the People Journey circle are discussed in detail. The cases are from Roche Diagnostics NL, ING Bank, Agile Business consortium, Airasia/Agi.li, Verband der Privaten Kranken Versicherung eV, KLM, CoVince, Part-up and Agile People.Central to the book is the People Journey Circle, in which each aspect is explained in a separate chapter and provided with theoretical frameworks, models, experiments and working methods. In addition, in the introduction you are given ten statements per element of the People Journey Circle to score so that it becomes clear which aspects are relevant to you.The People Journey Circle elements:People & PurposeAs far as people are concerned, People & Purpose is about the relationship between job happiness, well-being, perception and resilience and the influence of these factors on agility. To design a purpose you go on research and collect as much information as possible, describe (visualize) the storyline, test it with the target group and finally describe the purpose.Around this, the following aspects are addressed:Communication & awarenessAs a basis for creating awareness and interaction in your organization. Experiment by means of pizza sessions, screw-up sessions, agile coffee or meetups, transition or release sessions, supply and demand wall or happiness wall.Identifying constraintsWhat happens when you do or don't take obstacles seriously. How do you deal with OKRs, an Obeya and the agile sailboat technique?Role modellingHow do we move from managing to leading, to leadership to role modeling? How to deal with different human views (theory X and Y), Maslow's pyramid and swarm intelligence?Community buildingHow can you organically create movement? What principles do we learn from nature (collective and swarm intelligence) and how to build and explore communities to exponentially enrich your organization? Using collective intelligence is a mindset. Collective intelligence is averse to direction, hierarchical levels and silos and uses diversity and exploration.Learning organizationIs learning the most normal thing in the world? How can the change curve and transition circle be applied? What do a fixed and a growth mindset mean? What is blended learning in learning journeys?EcosystemWhat do we mean by the ecosystem and why is it important? What is the impact of sustainability and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development on your organization? What do we do with the infinite digital possibilities? To concludeIf you are on the eve of, or already in the middle of, an agile transformation then this book offers some clear tools to put people and purpose at the center and thereby take steps to achieve an agile mindset. The People Journey Circle is a great tool to determine which viewpoints to work on and then how to go about it. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new 'go-to' guide to enabling the people side of change in organisational transititions
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 7, 2021
The People Journey Circle that Alize outlines in this book really resonated with me, it is an approach that revolves around people and purpose to enable all of the people in an organisation to work together on the journey towards a shared purpose to support a future of sustainable business growth.

I found it a thought-provoking and idea-generating read, packed full of practical tools and real-life examples that turns what could be abstract theory into a tangible approach to supporting organisations and their people in agile transitions - I especially liked the fictional story of Tess and her team, which guided me through each of the elements of the People Journey Circle - lots of learns for me there!

I can't recommend this book highly enough for Business Leaders, HR folk and Agile coaches who are currently leading their people towards business success.

5.0 out of 5 stars The journey to agility is all about people and purpose!
Reviewed in Spain on January 10, 2021
The book is a good piece of non-fiction business literature that focuses on organizational transformations and the challenges (and opportunities) faced by both employers and employees during this journey.

It focuses on agile principles and practices that can influence the transition to agility, without imposing any specific model. It provides a wide ranges of tools, business cases and real examples that will help you to experience and understand whether or not agility may work for your organization.

Purpose Driven People consists of 3 major parts:
-The first part is all about the journey to agility connected to people and purpose. I love the tools provided to help people identifying their own personal purpose before connecting it to the professional/ organizational one.
-The second being about the People Journey Circle, a unique, human approach again around people and purpose that aims to help companies to create an inclusive journey towards the future of work. What I enjoyed about it was definitely the flexibility of this approach in closing the gap between thinking and doing.
-The third part is the very enjoyable story telling from the perspective of a virtual team going into this journey, whose characters are so familiar that you can easily recognize them in yourself and/or in other colleagues!

I would certainly recommend to read this book if you want to learn more about how to thrive, support and lead company transformations during unpredictable time, through people and communities.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read if you are looking to achieve business success through people success.

Purpose Driven People was a really inspiring read. Alize manages to beautifully guide you through a transformation process step by step but also capture the thinking and feeling process most people are likely to experience leading a transformation.

It’s written in a really personable way and the use of the avatars for the transformation team really make this book special and unique. There are times I feel like I’m part of that team.

Cleverly put together, this book is easy to read, full of practical ideas and insights from others who have gone through this transition. Insights you are not likely to find elsewhere.

A must read if you are looking to achieve business success through people success.

Before the book was published I was already very impressed with the author’s knowledge and experiences on this topic, having had the pleasure to see her live on stage several times both in London and New York. This book is essential for any modern leader or manager today and a brilliant hand book for anyone curious about how powerful a purpose can be. Brilliant read and valuable information and insight.
