Persuading Patience
Rogues & Gentlemen, Book 8

A shy, serious lord
Lord Percy Nibley needs a wife, preferably before his mother’s nagging on the subject drives him to distraction. But being more comfortable with his rock collection than flirting, he’s not having a lot of luck.

In desperation, the shy nobleman enlists the help of Baron Marchmain - Lord August Bright. August is nothing short of dazzling. Charming, witty and amusing, he’s the darling of the ton, and a notorious heart-breaker.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fun! - Once again, Emma Leech has written an enchanting, hilarious story that keeps you intrigued throughout the book. Full of drama, laughter, romance and a perfect ending. Amazon Customer

A woman with a mind of her own
August selects a suitable young lady for Lord Nibley; Miss Patience Pearson, a cool, level-headed woman, close to being on the shelf and with the reputation of a blue-stocking, meanwhile setting his own sights on capturing the heart of her vivacious younger sister, Caroline. But Patience is not easily charmed, guarding her sister with the tenacity of a lioness and August must be at his most devastatingly charming to get past her defences.

Having finally done so, however … August isn’t at all sure he’s chosen the right sister.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Settle back for another great read from Ms Leech!I loved this book. It went in a direction that I didn’t expect! I could totally relate to Patience! Tall, not particularly pretty, outspoken, opinated! Loyal to her family! Emma V Leech knocks this out the park. Persuading Patience has become one of my favs in the series Rogues and Gentlemen. I highly recommend this book.Amazon Customer

**** Warning: This book contains a careful selection of quiet determination, resolute tight-lipped-ness and (almost) insurmountable levels of tension. Although coupled with the presence of occasionally descriptive sexual encounters, we are very pleased to highlight that this book - and series - is in no way verging on erotica. ****

The Rogues & Gentlemen series can be enjoyed as stand-alone novels or as part of the wider series. If the full series appeals, the suggested – but by no means essential - reading order would be:

• Book 1: The Rogue
• Book 2: The Earl's Temptation
• Book 3: Scandal's Daughter
• Book 4: The Devil May Care
• Book 5: Nearly Ruining Mr Russell
• Book 5.5: Winter's Wild Melody
• Book 6: One Wicked Winter
• Book 7: To Tame a Savage Heart
• Book 8: Persuading Patience
• Book 9: The Last Man in London
• Book 10: Flaming June
• Book 11: Charity and The Devil
• Book 12: A Slight Indiscretion
• Book 13: The Corinthian Duke
• Book 14: The Blackest of Hearts
• Book 15 Duke and Duplicity
• Book 16 The Scent of Scandal
• Book 16.5 The Christmas Rose
• Book 17 Melting Miss Wynter
• Book 17.5 The Winter Bride, a Rogues & Gentlemen Novella

Happy reading! And please do leave a review if you can – it would mean the world to hear what you enjoyed most about the book.

This was an Absolutely Wonderful Story.

Patience & August were wonderful characters even if they were a bit mismatched.

I am looking forward to reading Dinah & Ben Lancaster's Story in the next book in this series.

This wasn't your typical ugly duckling turned swan scenario. Patience was, for the times, unfashionable and not the typical beauty of the era. What she lacked in looks she made up for with brains. I really appreciated how the heroine really took on the hero roll in a lot of aspects. The hero really needed her to be strong for him and she was happy to do it. That being said, he sure swooped in to save the day a time or two. All in all a great installment to the series.

I'm always rooting for the wallflowers, the bluestockings, whatever underdog is in the story. Patience and her dialog with August drew me in immediately. His admiration for her beautiful sister and his intentions for winning Cara in spite of Patience were humorous. The tenderness and the twists and turns in the story made it hard for me to put this down.

Patience’s stepmother and stepsister are lovely but also flighty and so Patience has been the strong one. When a strong woman and a rake, who is interested in her stepsister, meet, a battle of wits begins.

Emma Leech’s books are hard to put down as you are anticipating what could be happening on the next page. Her story starts with a happy family: Cilly, a lively and attractive twice-widowed woman who fully loves and adores both her head-turning daughter, Cara, and her speaks-her-mind responsible stepdaughter, Patience. Their strengths complement each other in ways to make their lives better and more fun. I think you’ll enjoy following their foray into Bath to hopefully find their match.

He was a rake of the first order he needed to marry for money and he believed he had found her but he had to get past her restocking stepmother. A wonderful romp of two very unlikely people who find real true love.

As all Emma V Leech books I found Patience and August story very enjoyable, sometimes moving when it speaks about the love ( or lack of it ) of August’s mother.
The truth is, reading this books you enter a different glittering world and I LOVE it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Refreshing!

I loved the protagonists if this one! They tease, they fight, they bicker and then make up like a normal couple. It is not one of those insipid, lust-at-first-sight kind of trash.
The writing style of this author reminded me a little bit about P.G.Wodehouse. The hero-heroine argue in such a realistic and endearing manner, it is so enjoyable!
I would absolutely recommend it to people who are bored with the usual hero-meets-heroine-lust happens-forced to be together-then sex-then love kind of stories which are the norm for all romance novels.
You will find this a pleasant, refreshing, wonderful change.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good dialogue and characters
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 25, 2020
I think Emma V Leech's gift is in witty, humerous dialogue. It is this which carries a story along for me. The bold statements that burst from a lady's mouth when least expected, th witty replies, even the angry ones all seem authentic. The hero or sometimes anti hero, are always found to be a safe haven and this gives a warm glow to the stories.
This story is no exception. It can be read as a standalone, but gives a feel good factor if you have met some of her characters in previous books. Lord August Bright, Baron Marchmain is seeking an heiress. He has one in sight, but her cold, starchy elder sister is like a guard dog. Patience is inaptly named, for she is headstrong and forthright in speech. Everyone believes she is firmly on the shelf. Her only object is to save her sister Caroline from fortune hunters and when August shows up she is more determined than ever, even resorting to a form of blackmail..which backfirws.

What a wonderful love story with lots of twists and turns, August a bit of a Rogue needs to marry for money. He has his eyes set on Cara a young beautiful heiress, but she has a protective older step sister who has heard not good things about August and is determined to stop this happening. Loved these characters which you get to know, and find out the reasons August has the reputation he has, and allergy Patience is determined never to marry. There are some sad parts to this story I felt myself falling a bit for August. I also laughed
At the interaction between both these characters. Well worth a read.
