Inside Affair (Prime Time Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
If I had to describe Sean Bailey, it would be: a surly, temperamental pain in my ass. Never in that equation would I ever include the word boyfriend—and not just because he’s straight.
The older brother of my life-long best friend, Sean is a detective for the Chicago PD, and is also known as Detective “Dick” for being...well, a surly, temperamental pain in everyone’s ass. He also happens to be the best they have, which is why I find myself on his doorstep the night my life is threatened by an anonymous stalker.
I only wanted the name of a bodyguard; I didn’t expect for Sean to volunteer for the job. Now, not only do I have a bodyguard, I also have a fake boyfriend.
Sean
It must be so hard to be Alexander Thorne, the number one prime-time news anchor in the country, with millions of dollars and a car that costs more than my house. I mean, I’m allowed to give him a hard time about it, but when some creep decides to cross the line and go after him, they’re gonna have to answer to me.
Going undercover has never been an issue in the past, so I don’t see why there’d be a problem now. Xander and I have known each other for years, so this should be a breeze. Except suddenly my stomach’s flipping when he looks my way, and my body comes alive whenever he brushes by me. I know I’m good at my job and playing a character and all, but this is getting out of hand.
I can’t be sure that either of us are playing anymore.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2025Great book. I love Xander and Sean. I’m going straight to the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2024I really enjoyed getting to know the two main characters throughout this book but I just wished there was more of their background/childhood in it. It was kind of all explained away really easily and I wanted the "meat and potatoes" of what really happened and how the family dynamics came to really include Xander instead of these one off easy explanations.
Then there is the lack of dialogue on their dates. I think this would have been the moment to either dig into their attraction and watch it really bloom or show how their pasts have led them to this moment. Instead there's not much doing and the dinner dates are over quick or they're fade to black moments. I'm just not sure how I feel the literary devices were used in this book in comparison to the alluring title. I guess I just expected more of a page count to maybe offset the story to allow for character growth.
I will say that I was disappointed at the introduction of the villain because it was a little too on the nose and obvious. I wanted someone more sinister, or an insidious person in Xanders inner circle to be the devious culprit. It just kind of fell a bit flat, when there were hints of greatness before that. I was hoping that it was a red herring but no such luck.
Another thought I had was how enriching and more engaging the thriller side of this book would have been if we had the POV of the stalker interspersed in the storyline? How much more intense that would have been? I know Sean and Xander are mainly in Xander's penthouse but the stalker could have had observation points that we could have been privy to or helped us get into the why and how of the stalking. Just a thought.
Ok so those were my pet peeves, but obviously I liked it since I gave it 3.25 🌟 and rounded it up to four. It just has more potential as a series but I do wish that there was a all-in-one type format to really get into.
So off I go to try the next one 🙂
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2020Spoilers in this Review!!
Sweet new romance by Ella Frank with two MCs (Sean & Xander) that you have already met, if you’ve read Confessions Henri & Confessions Bailey.
In my opinion it is not necessary to read either book beforehand but I would recommend it.
There is a GFY trope, as Sean is said to be “straight” (though I honestly feel like he’s pan or demi and just never thought about his sexuality much, especially because he accepts his attraction to Xander pretty easily) a fake-boyfriend trope, a live-in bodyguard trope. This is all wrapped up in a slow-burn enemies to lovers romance along a suspense plot.
Xander (uber rich news anchor) has a creepy stalker threatening him. He turns to Homicide detective Sean (Bailey’s oldest brother) who he has known all his life through ex-lover/ best friend Bailey.
Sean then decides to become Xander’s Fake Boyfriend to not spook the stalker and draw him out. The first half of the book is actually quite antagonistic. Both men are stubborn and don’t know each other as well as they think they do, so there is a lot of friction. I have to admit there was a point in the story where it became a bit too combative and a few times Xander rubbed me the wrong way, as he had a problem with Sean’s appearance and gave him a makeover so he could be seen with him. I tried to think of it as a Queer Eye Makeover and Sean did end up embracing the new him.
Once you get through all the antagonism the book slowly starts to build the romance and this is really slow burn (There are some kisses and a handjob but that’s it). I love that aspect because it builds anticipation for the next installment.
Character-wise I loved Sean: he’s fun, smart, stubborn, strong, sweet, open- minded, workaholic, brave, lonely and yeah sometimes grumpy but an all around good guy.
Xander took some warming up to but I grew to love him too: he’s sweet and sensitive on the inside, stubborn, spoiled, indulgent, brilliant, playboy, workaholic, can be slightly dickish sometimes, doesn’t handle being scared well, lonely, needs to be loved really badly in my opinion.
The book does end in cliffhanger that I personally didn’t mind because it is a great cliffhanger. This is a romance novel so it kind of figures that the MCs will be fine...and the cliffhanger provides a great beginning for the next book. The romance has only just begun and both still have to figure a lot out ( Sean’s sexuality for example) and how to manage having a relationship without the live-in bodyguard situation ( if the stalker storyline is finished, which I have my doubts about). Also Bailey’s reaction to his brother and best friend/ex getting together.
So a lot to look forward to in the next book.
Can’t wait.
Side Note: One of the few MM books by this author (along with Henri & Bailey) that I have really enjoyed since the Temptation Series: therefore 5 Stars
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2025I really enjoyed this book. I was worried as I got towards 90% completed and the climax was nowhere in sight. Thankfully it all came together at the end. Apparently there is a cliffhanger, which isn't my favorite, but I can appreciate the way it was done and enjoyed the book immensely. Definitely a good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2020I didn't realize this was part of a trio but I'm on the hook for all of it now! Such a good book! Alexander Thorne is the hottest prime time news anchor at the moment and he is living his best life....or so he thought. It has just come to his attention that he has a stalker. Someone is sending threatening emails to the news station and the higher-ups are demanding that Xander get a bodyguard immediately. Xander doesn't want to have a stranger all up in his business, but he knows a guy who might be able to help....unfortunately, this guy is also a royal pain in the butt.
Sean Bailey is a detective for the Chicago police department and has just come off of a three month undercover investigation. He is ready for some time off but does not like to be idle. When Xander calls and asks for his help, Sean is intrigued. He and Xander don't normally speak unless it's at Sean's brothers house for a weekly meal. Xander just wants a referral but Sean says he will do the job himself. After all, they've known each other forever so it should be a piece of cake, right?? The best way to pull this off so as to not tip off the stalker is for them to pretend to be in a relationship. Easy peasy....or not! Xander is gay and Sean is straight....and they can't be any more opposite even if they tried. Sean convinces Xander that it is just a job and he will make it work. Xander agrees but has no idea just how much of an impact Sean will have on his daily life. Can these two childhood friends fool a dangerous stalker and keep Xander safe? Will their "pretend" relationship be convincing? Read on for an edge of your seat ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sean and Alexander
As the most prestigious anchor of American journalism, Xander is famous, he is flawless on his job and he is respected, but he becomes also the main focus of a deadly stalker.
Afraid of the threats he starts receiving, he asks for Sean’s help. As a Bodyguard/Fake Boyfriend, Sean becomes not only the savior, the protector, but also, the safe point, the real anchor of Xander’s life.
Beautiful and romantic, this story will catch your attention since the very first paragraphs. Also, the writing is very clean, is straightforward and clear. The characters are very well described and the plot itself is extremely and carefully designed to stimulate a quick reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slow Burn
Alexander (Xander) Thorne is a famous anchorman, Sean Bailey is the older brother of Xander's best friend Bailey. When Xander starts receiving threats, he is told to get a bodyguard. He goes to Sean for his help, to see if he can recommend anyone. Sean decides there is no one better than him to do the job.
What starts as veiled hostility turns into mutual attraction.
They couldn't be more opposite. Xander is rich, lives in a penthouse, wears designer suits and is gay. Sean is a Chicago Police Detective who wears jeans and t-shirts and is straight.
Sean is a gruff no nonsense person who is nicknamed 'Detective Dick' and Xander is someone who is searching for Mr. Right.
Ella once again captures our attention from the first page and doesn't let go until the dramatic cliffhanger at the very end. The story continues in 'Breaking News' where the two will delve further into their budding relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Auftakt einer tollen Reihe
