Inside Affair (Prime Time Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 4,141 ratings

Xander
If I had to describe Sean Bailey, it would be: a surly, temperamental pain in my ass. Never in that equation would I ever include the word boyfriend—and not just because he’s straight.

The older brother of my life-long best friend, Sean is a detective for the Chicago PD, and is also known as Detective “Dick” for being...well, a surly, temperamental pain in everyone’s ass. He also happens to be the best they have, which is why I find myself on his doorstep the night my life is threatened by an anonymous stalker.

I only wanted the name of a bodyguard; I didn’t expect for Sean to volunteer for the job. Now, not only do I have a bodyguard, I also have a fake boyfriend.

Sean
It must be so hard to be Alexander Thorne, the number one prime-time news anchor in the country, with millions of dollars and a car that costs more than my house. I mean, I’m allowed to give him a hard time about it, but when some creep decides to cross the line and go after him, they’re gonna have to answer to me.

Going undercover has never been an issue in the past, so I don’t see why there’d be a problem now. Xander and I have known each other for years, so this should be a breeze. Except suddenly my stomach’s flipping when he looks my way, and my body comes alive whenever he brushes by me. I know I’m good at my job and playing a character and all, but this is getting out of hand.

I can’t be sure that either of us are playing anymore.

A lovely MM Romance by a Talented Author

A lovely MM Romance by a Talented Author
I have read three of the author's series and let me say I am not disappointed. The story is told from the views of Alexander Thorne, a world renowned news anchor and Sean Bailey (the brother of Craig Bailey from Confessions), a hot smart-mouthed detective known as Detective Dick. When Xander is threatened by a crazed stalker, Sean risks his life (literally) to protect Xander. As is usual with the author's work, the two start to bond in a relationship that is both sweet and hot. However, herein lies a problem. While I absolutely adored Sean and Xander's dynamic, the way they fell for one another was depicted as unbelievable. Sean was a straight character (which is not uncommon in the author's novels) who fell head over heels for Xander. There was little to no transition, no battling of emotions (save for a few bouts of confusion) and a lack of anger that could accompany those feelings when one is faced with them. I feel the two should have been allowed to develop into a more in depth relationship on their own rather than the forced one the novel depicted. I also found myself saying "enough already" in the parts that dragged on much too long. I am almost done with book 2 and it has the same problem. Lastly, the editing is poor. Not horribly poor, but enough one can tell it needed another read through. There were missed words, wrong words and spelling issues all throughout the book. This did surprise me seeing as the other series (Temptations and Confessions) were well written. Overall: Ms. Frank does an amazing job in the MM romance genre by providing the reader with an immersive relationship between two characters who knew but never saw one another. I recommend this book to anyone who is an avid MM romance fan.

    Spoilers in this Review!!
Sweet new romance by Ella Frank with two MCs (Sean & Xander) that you have already met, if you’ve read Confessions Henri & Confessions Bailey.
In my opinion it is not necessary to read either book beforehand but I would recommend it.

There is a GFY trope, as Sean is said to be “straight” (though I honestly feel like he’s pan or demi and just never thought about his sexuality much, especially because he accepts his attraction to Xander pretty easily) a fake-boyfriend trope, a live-in bodyguard trope. This is all wrapped up in a slow-burn enemies to lovers romance along a suspense plot.

Xander (uber rich news anchor) has a creepy stalker threatening him. He turns to Homicide detective Sean (Bailey’s oldest brother) who he has known all his life through ex-lover/ best friend Bailey.
Sean then decides to become Xander’s Fake Boyfriend to not spook the stalker and draw him out. The first half of the book is actually quite antagonistic. Both men are stubborn and don’t know each other as well as they think they do, so there is a lot of friction. I have to admit there was a point in the story where it became a bit too combative and a few times Xander rubbed me the wrong way, as he had a problem with Sean’s appearance and gave him a makeover so he could be seen with him. I tried to think of it as a Queer Eye Makeover and Sean did end up embracing the new him.
Once you get through all the antagonism the book slowly starts to build the romance and this is really slow burn (There are some kisses and a handjob but that’s it). I love that aspect because it builds anticipation for the next installment.

Character-wise I loved Sean: he’s fun, smart, stubborn, strong, sweet, open- minded, workaholic, brave, lonely and yeah sometimes grumpy but an all around good guy.
Xander took some warming up to but I grew to love him too: he’s sweet and sensitive on the inside, stubborn, spoiled, indulgent, brilliant, playboy, workaholic, can be slightly dickish sometimes, doesn’t handle being scared well, lonely, needs to be loved really badly in my opinion.

The book does end in cliffhanger that I personally didn’t mind because it is a great cliffhanger. This is a romance novel so it kind of figures that the MCs will be fine...and the cliffhanger provides a great beginning for the next book. The romance has only just begun and both still have to figure a lot out ( Sean’s sexuality for example) and how to manage having a relationship without the live-in bodyguard situation ( if the stalker storyline is finished, which I have my doubts about). Also Bailey’s reaction to his brother and best friend/ex getting together.
So a lot to look forward to in the next book.

    Can’t wait.

Side Note: One of the few MM books by this author (along with Henri & Bailey) that I have really enjoyed since the Temptation Series: therefore 5 Stars

I have to say, Frank sure knows her way around real, fine MM romance writing.

I enjoyed Inside Affair soooo much. But I don’t know if I can pinpoint why. It was one of those reads where you feel at home right away. From the first page, the characters, the backdrop, the plot, the whole ambience, just everything, sucked me in. I loved both Sean and Xander. Despite only getting hints of their backstory, they had me instantly intrigued and left me wanting more.

This is also a complete teaser read.

It’s short AF and ends on a cliff-hanger. I knew going in that it was the first in a series, so I knew I wouldn’t get full closure at the end. But still. I thought there would at least be some sort of semi-closure. And hot, hot lovin’. But I got none of those things. I’m not sure Inside Affair could really be defined as a slow-burn romance. Xander’s and Sean’s attraction is too fast for that and there’s lots of innuendo, teasing and starts and stops as they begin to explore that attraction. But it is absolutely slow going where romance is concerned. It’s a bit like those really cheesy soap-operas where there’s always a break just when something dramatic happens. And then, once the break is over, all the tension’s gone and a new build up starts. Inside Affair is just like that. And I still loved it. It’s perplexing really.

I should be irritated because this read left me feeling so un-fulfilled. But that’s just because I need to have the rest of the story. Right now! Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait until July for that. But damn, it was good. You should read it!

I really enjoyed this book. I was worried as I got towards 90% completed and the climax was nowhere in sight. Thankfully it all came together at the end. Apparently there is a cliffhanger, which isn't my favorite, but I can appreciate the way it was done and enjoyed the book immensely. Definitely a good read.

If you read the authors Confessions series, you have been introduced to Alexander “Xander” Thorne and Sean Bailey. In that series, you could never have seen these two characters spending any time together but the author has a way of making events unfold that are unexpected and yet, seem perfectly right at the same time.

Alexander Thorne, former boyfriend of Sean’s younger brother, the guy he has known since they were all little kids. Xander is a pain in the ass, uppity anchorman who needs Sean’s help because of some recent threats made against him. Sean Bailey, the detective that just finished up a long undercover assignment and needs to step away from the job. When Xander shows up on his doorstep one night pleading for help, his only choice is to protect the guy. Sean’s ideas on how and what differ from Xander’s initial thoughts and that is where the story unfolds.

This is not a typical book from the author in that this book is setting up the three part story. There are not a lot of love scenes and I truly think that is okay. Thee two characters have been in the others life for a long time, and so the story is really about them getting to know each other as new people. Xander is adorable with his reactions and questions on how and why he never noticed things before about Sean. Sean, to his own growth, sees Xander in a way he never could have figured before and finds himself captivated by the sheer magnitude of Xander.

The author does a great job of forcing these two men to evaluate stereotypes and misperceptions on the way to finding a connection that may mean something in the future. It is a love story unfolding and I cannot wait for the next portion of the story to unfold.

As the most prestigious anchor of American journalism, Xander is famous, he is flawless on his job and he is respected, but he becomes also the main focus of a deadly stalker.

Afraid of the threats he starts receiving, he asks for Sean’s help. As a Bodyguard/Fake Boyfriend, Sean becomes not only the savior, the protector, but also, the safe point, the real anchor of Xander’s life.

Beautiful and romantic, this story will catch your attention since the very first paragraphs. Also, the writing is very clean, is straightforward and clear. The characters are very well described and the plot itself is extremely and carefully designed to stimulate a quick reading.

Alexander (Xander) Thorne is a famous anchorman, Sean Bailey is the older brother of Xander's best friend Bailey. When Xander starts receiving threats, he is told to get a bodyguard. He goes to Sean for his help, to see if he can recommend anyone. Sean decides there is no one better than him to do the job.

What starts as veiled hostility turns into mutual attraction.

They couldn't be more opposite. Xander is rich, lives in a penthouse, wears designer suits and is gay. Sean is a Chicago Police Detective who wears jeans and t-shirts and is straight.

Sean is a gruff no nonsense person who is nicknamed 'Detective Dick' and Xander is someone who is searching for Mr. Right.

Ella once again captures our attention from the first page and doesn't let go until the dramatic cliffhanger at the very end. The story continues in 'Breaking News' where the two will delve further into their budding relationship.
