Priscilla: The Widows of Wildcat Ridge #1 Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 755 ratings

After losing her father and husband in a devastating mine disaster, Priscilla Heartsel faces poverty and eviction. She refuses to abandoning her beloved town, Wildcat Ridge, and doesn't want to remarry, despite a desperate need for money.

Meanwhile, Braxton Gamble becomes unwittingly embroiled in a botched bank robbery. In a desperate move to deprive the gang of the stolen loot, he seizes the money and flees, suffering a gunshot wound in the process. Weak and wounded, he stumbles upon what seems to be an abandoned town, and seeks refuge in an empty house, where he loses consciousness.

Priscilla returns home to a startling discovery – an injured stranger in her bed. Out of a sense of duty, she nurses the man so he can leave. When she discovers the stolen money, Braxton gladly surrenders it to the local marshal. Danger returns when the bank robbers demand the loot and threaten violence, but somehow, the money has disappeared.

This sweet romance weaves a gripping narrative of love, danger, and redemption, where Priscilla and Braxton must defy both ruthless criminals and a shadowy marshal to secure their future and find a love more precious than gold.

Hello and welcome to my author page. Let me tell you a little about myself, as that seems to be the main purpose of this profile. Believe it or not, I began my fiction career in the third grade when I told my class that a little sister I never had died of a black widow bite. I also wrote books through my teen years, always about a girl whose mother mistreated her by making her wash dishes, sweep the floor... you get the idea. Never finished any of those stories. But the idea of writing a real book and publishing it never occurred to me. It was a particularly vivid dream that drove me to drag out a portable typewriter and go to work on my first novel. In 1990 my second completed book, Tender Touch, brought me a first place win in a writing contest and the following year became a Golden Heart Finalist. That won me an agent and a contract from Kensington who published five of my western historical romance novels. My books have placed or won in other contests as well. Forever Mine received a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award nomination. I've always loved the Old West and I believe my novels reflect that emotion through their depth and vibrancy. I am always working on a new story. I hope you try my books and enjoy them. Follow me here on my author page and on my website at https://charleneraddon.com & get a free book.

Book one in this exciting new series, Widows of Wildcat Ridge, starts the series off with a bang and it pulled me in from the very first page. A strong storyline along with well thought out characters I love, and a few that were unsavory and dastardly, made it hard to put down. An unexpected surprise was fun!
I love a strong heroine and the author didn't disappoint me. Priscilla is a strong, somewhat stubborn woman, who dusts off her hands and gets back to the tasks of living after suffering a great loss. Add Braxton, our hero. Handsome and with a devilish way about him and you have the romance and angst along the way to a HEA.
I really enjoyed this book by a favorite author, Charlene Raddon. Been reading her books for a long time and always a 5 Star Book.
I am looking forward to reading each one in this new series, written by several different authors, many that are favorites of mine. JudyE

Most of the men were killed in a mining accident leaving many women widows. What were they going to do? How would they survive? They came up with the idea that they should all marry again because women couldn't own businesses so without a husband they we're doomed. Meanwhile in another town Braxton Gamble got drunk and accompanied Logan and Cash to the bank to make a withdrawal, only it was to rob the bank. They wanted Braxton to kill the elderly woman who worked in the bank. He managed to hit Cash and escape. He was shot as he escaped. He ended up in the town where the women lived and since he was shot he broke into what he thought was an empty house. It was Priscilla house and she found him injured and passed out on her bed. She nursed him back to health only to have the Marshall arrest him when Priscilla and Braxton told her about the robbery. Cash and Logan came looking for him. The story gets very interesting when these two come to town. I won't spoil the story for you. Read the book, you'll enjoy it.

Charlene Raddon took all of the best components desirable in an historical western romance a and put them into "Pricilla". A strong woman (beautiful, of course), a sensitive man (handsome, of course), the requisite villains (one will surprise you) along with a generous amount of action and romance are combined into a thoroughly enjoyable book. Sweet (but not saccharine) and clean enough for any audience. (I'm always grateful for authors who continue to prove that explicit sex and rough language are unnecessary for creating a top quality book!)

Widows of Wildcat Ridge is a new historical series that explores what happens to a mining town after an accident at the mine takes the lives of most of the men, leaving their widows to survive and rebuild the town. Priscilla is the first book in the series. It can stand alone, but it draws the reader into the community and leaves the reader wanting to continue to read the following books to learn more about what happens in Wildcat Ridge. The main characters are Priscilla Heartsel, a strong resilient woman who lost both her husband and father and Braxton Gamble, a man who she nurses back to health from a gunshot wound obtained during a bank robbery. These two make an unlikely couple that work well together, leaving the reader rooting for their HEA. Add in a couple of villains and a surprise plot twist and you have a story that keeps you interested and wanting more! I highly recommend Priscilla!

Priscilla is orphaned and widowed in one fell swoop when the mine caves in. She and the majority of women in town are on their own to try to save the town and their homes that the mine owner seems to own. Priscilla discovers a hot spring up in the mountain she loves to hike in. Will this be the means for the women to bring their town to life, and thwart the mine owner? Braxton Gamble is fooled by his two companions into drinking way too much whiskey, then they take him to the local bank to rob it using him as their stooge. When he refuses to kill the elderly woman teller, they shoot him. Injured, but willing to fight for his life, he picks up the saddlebag of money, hits one of the robbers with it, then shoots at them in the bank as he goes outside freeing their horses and mounting his own to escape from them. He comes to what looks like a deserted town, and enters a house on the outskirts of the town to hide and try to stop his shoulder wound from bleeding him to death. Enter Priscilla who find Braxton in her bed bleeding all over the crocheted cover her mother made, and we have the start of a very interesting story. A good friend who isn't as good as everyone believes, a bad mine owner who wants to make all the women leave, and two outlaws looking for Braxton and the saddlebag of cash combine to make a great story and the start of a new series. I look forward to more stories about the widows of Wildcat Ridge in Utah.
