After War: A Revenge Squad prequel Kindle Edition
Join one man’s search for redemption through professional retribution.
2762AD. My name is NJ McCall, and this is my story of how a faded old soldier wound up clearing the deranged streets of Port Zahir in the employ of the planet’s premier paramilitary retribution service.
It’s a story of redemption, or learning to trust the ghosts in my head, of stumbling across a narrow path out of the Human Legion that didn’t end with me dead in a gutter.
But most of all, it’s about why I can’t stand aliens. Especially when they save me from myself.
‘After War’ is a dark, feature-length prequel for ‘Revenge Squad’, the new urban space opera crossover series by Tim C. Taylor set in the worlds of the Human Legion. Fans of Jim Butcher’s ‘The Dresden Files’ will feel at home here as much as followers of science fiction adventures from Michael Anderle, Daniel Arenson, and Amy DuBoff.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2017Then much of this story will be lost on you. One person(or more) downgraded this to 3 stars and reviewed it as boring. Other than the heart-breaking murder of Chris Kyle this depiction of PTSD is the most poignant and even though written as fiction, has a base in reality, of that I am certain. If you are curious about what goes through what's left of a warrior's battered mind, I urge you to read this.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2017Good book. I liked the relationships between the characters. I didn't like the flow of the story. Things seemed slow at times artificially drawn out. However I liked it enough that I will probably read the next in series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2017As a fan of the Human Legion Universe as a whole; this book is an interesting departure from the other tangents in the series. I liked the story as a whole, but if I had to critique the book, I would say (attempting to not spoil) that the multiple 'voices' of the main character get jumbled and a little hard to follow at points. I noted some of the other reviews prior to writing and there are valid points to some of the negative reviews. I found myself rooting for the main characters however and wanting to turn the pages.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2017I really want to like this based on the cover and premise alone, but the writing and pacing of the book is unfocused. I purchased without reading reviews and the reviews are basically agreeing with my thoughts. I'm currently 60% through, and instead of reading I'm writing this review. Why? It's just a tough read. Main character is frustratingly scatter-brained. One minute he is a badass, then he's a bitch. He's obsessed with every girl he meets to a fault. Too many inner monologues bogs the story down, and rarely actually adds to the character. Then, there's the pacing. By God, at this point we should be seeing some headway into the REVENGE portion, but no we're still establishing his PTSD and obsession with females. Unfortunately I won't be reading this series after I finish this grind. Good idea. Bad execution.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2016Another great romp through space with author Tim C. Taylor. It definitely delivered on the Firefly vibe he promised, though I've never watched/read the Dresden Files so I can't say if that promise was fulfilled. I loved looking at the Human Legion Universe through a different lens and from a different angle. I'd give it six stars if I could. This author is one I always buy, and this time he didn't disappoint.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2017However, the first couple of chapters were well written. I'm just not as interested in the story as I thought I might be by the books description.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2017Great story for less than a $ won't disappoint 😀Very funny now buy the book 😀 Four more words 😎
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2017Got to read 1/3rd of it but called it quits. This author consistently uses 2 pages to say what could be said in one sentence. Very tedious to read, very slow and very boring. The author needs to read Nicholas S. Smith or Ryk Brown to learn how to write a good story. This book is a form of punishment to read so please, find something else to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book
I should think that everyone who comes to the end of several years in military service suddenly finds themselves as a different person in a different world. We have to learn to live again amongst family and friends and adapt to all sorts of what are now strange work situations. I know from experience how difficult it can be. Now to try and imagine what it must be like for marines from the Human Legion, who have never known home and family except their army colleagues, it is beyond me. Mr Taylor has tried to highlight and answer some of the problems, but has also thrown in the question of what to do with the troops when the war is over in a galactic environment. Just to spice it up a bit the Human Legion marines are allocated space on a planet alongside members of the many Alien groups that the Human Legion absorbed during its conquests. Inhabiting this planet without any overseeing power or government is asking for trouble, but I will leave you to work this out for yourselves. The Author continues to write his stories with many quirky events and a smattering of humour. In this series he describes the exploits of an ancient ex-marine as he tries to come to terms with life after demobilisation; how does he fit in, who can he trust, he was born to fight and he has lots of fighting to do. We have left the big galactic battles behind but life is never going to be easy so expect a few skirmishes. The story moves along at some pace and is very well written. I was particularly pleased that TCT has written his story in the first person this time which makes you feel that you are there experiencing the problems yourself. I consider that this is Mr Taylor’s best book so far and is well worth my 5* rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars The horrors of war.
NJ is a mess, with his deceased squad in his head and the trauma of his previous life to cope with all he wants is to be left alone. The arrival of Silky, a mysterious alien, signals the beginning of NJ's return to life.
I like Mr Taylor's depiction of an ex-soldier left to his own devices after the horrors of war. NJ felt very real, though his ghosts are actually part of him rather than just in his imagination. The story is occasionally baffling but everything becomes clear in the end. A thrill ride of a story that I thoroughly enjoyed, this book has introduced me to a new author who I will be reading more from.

I loved this great aside to the universe Tim C Taylor has created. The attention to detail is remarkable.
