Raven: Part One: A Forbidden Desires Spin-Off Story Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 590 ratings

Bertram Drake, the most mysterious Drake brother, leads a life shrouded in secrecy. Taken from his brothers at a young age and shaped into a weapon to be used by the dragon council, he has one sole purpose: obey the orders given to him, no matter what they might be.

Once a perfect jewel of the Pedigree, Sorin’s sparkle has been dulled. Taken from his cloister and sold regularly to the highest bidder, he has learned two vital truths.

The first: that dragons are monsters who will stop at nothing to get what they want.

And the second, most terrible truth of all: that egg madness is a lie—omegas are not saved from a lifetime of pain even when they are separated from their eggs.

When Sorin’s newest buyer mysteriously dies, Sorin sees it as his chance to escape from the hellish life he’s been forced to lead. The only obstacle? A handsome agent of the council who has been tasked with ending his life.

… and who has custody of his eggs.

Raven: Part One is a 100,000 word omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set prior to the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains action, adventure, heartbreak, laughter, and more than its fair share of steam. For maximum enjoyment, Raven: Part One is best read following the events of Clutch, Bond, Mate, Swallow, Magpie, Finch, and Peregrine.

A Canadian by birth but an American by marriage, Piper currently resides in Southern Illinois, where she leads a quiet life with her husband, their three dogs, a very demanding cat, and her office mate—her pet rabbit.

Holy heck, what a fantastic book! But dang does it get heavy. Fair warning that your heart will break for Sorin and Bertram many times over. Sorin’s story (aka Raven) especially is one of pain and trauma and so much sorrow. And we finally get to know Bertram and WOW did I love him. He has a very intense moral code and it’s really put to the test once he meets Sorin. His life is literally changed forever, in both good and bad ways.

Many, many questions from the series are answered in this book and I’m confident the rest will be answered in part two. I was emotionally devastated by the end of part one, but ready to watch these guys find their HEA in part two.

So yeah, be prepared for a very heavy story with lots of trigger warnings!

The long awaited beginning of the end, where we get to meet the elusive brother who have just popped up in the series here and there. And the unintended mate which started shifting everything, long before our darling Harrison came along.

I liked the headstrong Sorin, he was braver than most even as he struggled, doing what ever he could to keep his babies. Bertram's soft side was unexpected but welcome, of course knowing his brother there was no doubt he would be a softie for his mate.
There is so much tragedy but love as well. Bertram's servants had a special place for me, I loved how they were written.

This is about five hundred years before we first meet Nate, and we find that dragon society have stayed stagnant for ages before nature took it in to its own hands and pushed forth changes in the form of our current omega gang.

While it didn't beat some of my favourite books in the series, it is up there in entertainment, bringing us on an emotional journey which ends in the next book.

Oh, joy, it last Bertram and Sorin’s story. We forbidden desires fans have been waiting for quite a while, and it did not disappoint.
This is part one of the story, so it is all told from the beginning, several hundred years in the past .
I was so happy to discover that, although miss guided at times, Sorin is not evil. This part one definitely helped to develop some empathy forSorin’s character.
And while Bertram has always been portrayed as cold, and Distant, this story definitely revealed a softer side, and also some explanation as to why he is the way he is.
I was delighted to discover that the pair are indeed mates, That was awesome.
Oh boy can’t wait for part two . Once again, it was worth the wait, did not disappoint.

This is the first volume of the conclusion to the Forbidden Desires stories. In the previous books (and if you haven't read them, you surely should), Bertram is a mysterious figure sometimes called Frederich, and Sorin, otherwise known as Raven, is a villain to the point that you almost do not like him. But, as we all know, there are two sides to every story, and we have only seen one side up to this point. Now that the story has been fleshed out over hundreds of years, we see the true love between Bertram and Sorin that leads to Bertram's betrayal of his clan and Sorin's madness. This story ripped my heart out in places. However, after reading Volume 1, I am confident that our authors will bring all the pieces together and there will be the happy ending the characters (and we) so deserve.

Well, this has been one heck of a ride! We finally get the mysterious Bertram and the 'hateful' Sorin/Raven's story, but all is not as it seems. Sorin suffered under dragons and it explains so much of his behaviour. Scott and Kelly have built a complex, brilliant and wonderful world of omegas, dragons with lashings of humour, sweetness, pain and steamy heated moments. This story ties up a lot of questions that started with Clutch. Highly recommend this and can't wait to start the second part.

A totally engaging storyline, and absolutely wonderful characters, their story to be intense, emotional, and romantic. I found the story to be engaging from start to finish! I can't wait to read part two! This is one of my favorite series ever and this did not disappoint.

I am so sad that this series is ending. The tone of this book is so much more somber and devastating compared to the more lighthearted previous books. But what a way to end it. I had thought Everard’s book was my favorite but I am so blown away by Raven that it has been surpassed. I knew I couldn’t start Raven until the second part had been released. Oh the tears and heartbreak of part one- it was such an emotional journey. Congratulations on such a successful book! Meeting Perry at the start of his story, the depth of Soran’s despair just gutted me. I cannot recommend a book and series more highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars MM Dragon series - just brilliant
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 20, 2023
Wow, we've been waiting for these two books for so long, and then I wasn't sure I wanted to read them and complete the series.

So even though this is book 8 of 9, it's actually the prequel; well, both these books span hundreds of years and a lot of ground. These are definitely not standalone, as you need to have read the others to understand the family.

Expertly written, and I have loved these books since I first found them over 4 years ago.

We finally meet Bertram Drake and follow his life, not through a decade or two but over a few centuries. His and Sorin's lives have not been easy; they are far from it.

If you start book one, you will be addicted like the rest of us. Just brilliant.

This whole Dragon/ human A/O MM series has been one of my favorites since Alistair and Nate their story came out.
I and so many others have been patiently awaiting Piper Scott and Virginia Kelly their final book(s) all about Raven and Bertram. Before I say anything else; wow what a great start to the final, for me it was worth waiting for.
Sorin/ Raven and also Bertram his place in his clutch explains their backstories. It brings light to so much events in the earlier books in the series.
I do not want to reveal much of the storyline, but will say Sorin/ Raven will steal your heart he is so much more than I ever could think up.
Be aware this is book one of two of Raven and ends at a natural point in the storyline. Now heading straight to book two.

This is part one of the most anticipated read of 2023. I said what I said!
A hugely powerful story with a lot of feelings. Not many books bring me to tears, but I teared up several times through this epic read.
Definitely NOT a standalone - you need to read from Clutch onwards to comprehend the events depicted in this book.
I highly recommend the whole series.

So part 1 of the long awaited Raven did not disappoint me. Finally reading Sorin and Bertram’s story was so heartbreakingly good. The pieces of the series starting to come together to finish the overarching plot of the series was impossible for me to put down. The one thing that I truly loved was being able to see the other side to scenes read in other books and that continued into part 2 of the book which I will save for my review of that.
For those who love Piper Scott and Virginia Kelly’s Forbidden Desire books you are going to want to grab this one up right quick. Really well done book and such a good read.
