As the start of a series, this story definitely does its job of pulling you in and leaving you wanting more stories in the same world. Zane and Ryan’s journey from straight friends through both of their bi-awakenings to so much more was gradual and progressed at a natural pace, allowing time for them to explore the more emotional aspects of their friendship as things unfolded.

Zane is the more serious, responsible of the two, always with his eye on their goal when it comes to hockey (no pun intended…well, okay, maybe a little LOL). Ryan is the more laid-back one, but is still a steadfast support for them both. Their deep connection even before going pro is evident, and once they are in the big leagues they are like two halves of a whole even before the intimate changes in their relationship begin.

This is easily one of my favorite friends-to-lovers books, because Zane and Ryan are far and away one of the best, most suited matchups I’ve read with this trope. I couldn’t imagine one without the other, and watching as their relationship journeyed from new teammates to inseparable lovers was incredibly satisfying.

I’m excited for more in this series, but for now I’ll be happily content with Road Rules, which I’ll definitely be rereading in the future. If you haven’t yet guessed, this was a 5-star read for me and I’ve added it to my Top Recommendations. If you’re a fan of friends-to-lovers, or just of hockey romances, you’ll want to exercise that one-click finger ASAP ;-). These guys are scorching hot together, so this story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

I love the friends-to-lovers trope. Especially when it is low angst and the MCs know what communication is. This story was great. It was fun and spicy but the spice wasn't the entire focus. The MCs were relatable. There was humor and emotion involved. This was my first novel by this author and I will definitely be picking up more of their work.

This story was absolutely the sweetest. The main characters are gentle, kind, and so patient with each other. They communicate much more openly than is typical for these type of stories which was super refreshing to see. It was a really touching to read, so I will be giving the rest of this series a shot!

Loved the characters, the story, the spice. I just don’t love books written in third person. It’s like you bouncing from one characters head to another. And I love M/M stories but there are so many “he’s”. Looking forward to reading some more but think I want to go to 1st person land for a bit.

I’m torn on how to review this book. I thought it was a good story and loved the main characters. The plot seemed to take the best elements of a few other hockey stories and mixed them together. The writing was fine with nothing grammatically glaring, but it seemed clunky. This story is written from a 3rd person perspective and it was hard to follow. The focus would shift constantly and I frequently found it unclear which character the attention was on. It really reads like an early book in the authors career before they have mastered their craft. The formatting on my kindle didn’t help. My main problem with this book is that I can tell it is a novella that just had lots of unnecessary content added to make it longer. There were no major plot developments to keep the story interesting as the author stretched the word count. I’m certain the shorter version was great, but in this longer edition the story dragged at times with filler fluff and I found myself skimming because it just wasn’t all that interesting. At this point I’m uncertain if I will read the other books in this series. There were no overly intriguing side characters that I wanted to read more about.

Zane is the captain of the team while Ryan is his roommate. They are attracted to each other but won't act on it because they are unsure of how the other feels. When the Toronto goalie outs himself, Zane and Ryan feel a relief in acting on their attraction, but it will only be on Zane's terms and on the road only. Will those rules work? Will Ryan abide by them?

I enjoyed this book. I loved how different Zane and Ryan are. I also liked how their family and friends deal with them together. It was fun to see how they are one unit then gradually they see what they had not seen through the years. They needed to learn how to communicate and deal with their feelings as well as what others think about them.

This is a good opening for this series, and I cannot wait to read the next one.

This was a very low angst romance and it was so nice! I had a great time reading about Zane and Ryan and their bromance turned into real romance. Now I need to know what happens in the next story with the one who got away 🤭

Road Rules is releasing, this time as an extended story. It was originally released as a prequel to the Rules Of The Game series by Brigham Vaughn.

Road Rules was my first book from Brigham Vaughn early January 2022 and I fell in love right away with her writing. I had the pleasure to proofread this extended version and was delighted to revisit Zane and Ryan’s sweet story.

Like my good friend Steph would say, there’s just something that hits different with MM friends to lovers. This book really captures the natural transition Zane and Ryan go through, being college friends, teammates and roommates, to being lovers as adult NHL players. I loved how there was just enough questioning from Zane, without the excessive drama, e.g. What are we doing? What is happening with me? Should we do this? Is this right? Should we continue? What will people think? Etc. etc. It was just “simple” enough and Ryan was so into this from the beginning and it balanced out their emotions perfectly.

Brigham Vaughn presents “being gay/bi” in the NHL in a very natural way as well. Sometimes MM hockey can feel a bit utopic and that is perfectly fine, but I also appreciate when an author writes about the real struggles a player would have to face. Ryan and Zane’s coming out story was very sweet and sparkled with humour, and I loved it.

Because I have finished reading this series, it was interesting to go back to the beginning and see all the players before they got their HEA. I loved how different I read them since I knew what was going to happen for them later on.

Ryan and Zane are very special. Everyone should know about them.

MM, Demisexual/Bisexual, Best Friends to Lovers, Hockey, Romance. The first book in the series it was published previously as a shorter story but it is now perfect as there is a lot more depth to their story and more information given. A fast paced plot full of steam. A great read with a guaranteed HEA. Edited due to the fact I've now had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook also, thoroughly enjoyed the narration, so well done...I cannot fault the performance or the story. Five star listen.
