Scars & Silver Linings Kindle Edition
Two little, pink lines should have been a good thing, but for Kendall Wright, it felt like the end of the world. Especially when her career as a successful romance novelist had only just begun to take off.
But with the acceptance of her flaky boyfriend, and the help of a friendly bartender, she begins to see how those two little, pink lines could actually be a blessing.
Except pregnancy isn’t always what it’s cut out to be, and sometimes, things can take a turn for the worst when you least expect it. And after an emergency C-section, the premature birth of her son, and the loss of that flaky boyfriend, Kendall begins the hard, rewarding, and oftentimes traumatic life of NICU parenthood alone.
But soon, she realizes that, where there is darkness, there is usually light. And there are always friendly—and very attractive—bartenders.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2021Aside from perhaps an autobiography, never have I read a more vulnerable, honest work where the aųthor has put so much of herself in a story, much less a work of fıction. Through the character of a single and pregnąnt Kenny, Kıngsley ląys herself bąre in these pages, sharing her fears, uncertainties, and all the rąw, messy minutiae of a traųmatic life event. She bľeeds her every emotion into these characters, leaving her bruısed and bąttered heart to syncopate through each word, breathing poignant, stunning, unforgettable life into this story.
Another uniqueness of this story, which may be more women's fıction than romance, is in the lives of the characters. When Kenny and Goose first meet, and through a large part of the storyline, they’re each in a relationship, so friendship is the only thing each has to offer. Rather than a slow bųrn, this is a tiny, precious ember that is oh, so gently fanned and handled with utmost care until finally, when the stars align, the fląme comes to life.
Even having never given birth, this book ruıned me and I found myself sląmmed with wave after wave of emotion time and again. I can only imagine its impact on birth mothers, but the most devastąting of emotions experienced in these pages are worth the read of this unparalleled, captivating story.
In the most evocatıve, lyrical prose we are reminded that in the worst of life's circumstances feąr, doubt and ąnger are to be expected and even embraced. Any person can rise from the ashes with a tempered strength, a fırmer resolve, and a beautifully refined soul. Yes, each circumstance is different, but we are never alone in our sųffering because this is a part of the human condition.
Through the strųggles of little Alex, a fragile yet perfectly formed tiny life, we see the indomitableness of the human spirit, through Kenny the process of the refining fire, and through Goose a selfless, unconditional love. And throughout this story, in every word, we find a magnificent, radiant courage that embraces vulnerability, lives authentically, and is true to one's self.
It's early in the year, so I’m hesitant to proclaim this booķ my top read for the year, but I have considerable doubt that anything else will come along to top this. It's grıtty and devastąting, compelling and evocatıve, and powerful and unforgettable, and I guarantee it will be one of the most stunning, exquisite, exceptional books you ever read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2021This was my first book by this author. I stumbled across it by accident—just another facebook ad suggestion by Kindle. But holy cow, am I glad I did.
After reading the premise, I was intrigued. The plot sounded original, and having friends who experienced life with NICU babies, I decided to give it a read. Being a mother to a healthy toddler boy myself, I can only imagine. It’s every expecting mother’s worst nightmare that their baby is born premature, or their birth comes with complications. But this book had so many emotions. I laughed, I swooned (definitely swooned, cause my God, Goose), and I cried. Like real, boo-hoo cried. But it was all worth it.
The writing was phenomenal, the characters so vivid and relatable. Nothing over the top, just regular people who happen to be the type of people everyone dreams of having in their lives. I don’t want to give too much away, but if you are a romance novel lover, you need to read this book. Now. Just don’t wait until later in the day to start it, because you will be up way too late finishing it in one go.
Side-note/spoiler: I definitely thought Goose was going to be a Top Gun reference. The truth was way better.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2021I enjoyed this book and navigating through a very emotional time with the main character. I do think the 3 adults in this book were made to be a bit more immature for their ages than they should have been which kind of took away some of the story for me. All in all though it was a nice read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2021OH My. This author has written a awesome story. Kenny was involved with Brendan, finding out she was pregnant, telling him that they were going to have a baby. He was suddenly surprised, didn't want the baby. Took off and returned to tell Kenny, sure why not knowing he wasn't going to be involved. Never around to support her during her pregnancy. Met a man named Goose ,he owned the bar. She would go to the bar to write her stories. She was a author who had a dead line. Goose made her wings and non alcoholic drinks. They were just friends. Kenny had a cat named Mrs. Potter. Kept her in her apartment with her, lonely days of having morning sickness. No boyfriend around to be with,Brendan was a selfish person. Doing his own thing. Kenny became sick and was so sick she called her mom and dad, her babies daddy Brendan. No one around. She was desperate needing to go to the hospital. She called Goose and he came and took her to the hospital. Finding out her blood pressure was very high, the doctors decided to deliver the baby 3 months early. She almost lost her life. They did a C-Section and took her distressed baby that needed to be born. The called Brendan but wasn't around. What a so hole, he didn't know she had the baby. What a loser. When he saw his son in NICU he said he couldn't and wouldn't be involved with a dying baby left and never returned! Goose help her out lots of time sitting by her until everything got better. But her son Alex was fighting for his life, she was at the hospital everyday until he was able to come home. What a wonderful story! I was very pleased with this either. The way she wrote the story kept you interested! I would read it again. So much like a real life story. Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 beautiful stars 🌟
This book was honest, heartbreaking and real. Well written and guaranteed to pull on your heart strings I had nothing but compassion for the heroine, and the hero made me swoon on more than one occasion.
They may have met in a bar and become friends, but when the unthinkable happens, Goose aka Eric is always there for her 🤍 and a relationship and bond transforms them into so much more 😍
I loved it

4.0 out of 5 stars Great light reading
Picked this book as it seemed like a great book to read whilst feeding my daughter. I was correct. Although it was a little predictable it was the fantastic easy read that I needed to read. I would highly recommend this book for someone looking for a good easy read. I read it all in one day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn’t put it down!
Wow! I feel emotionally wrung out. This story is based on the authors true life experience of having a premature baby due to her developing Pre Eclampsia at 27 weeks. Having worked in Ante-Natal and Labour wards in the past, you look at everything with a medical eye. This story shows the true emotion of a mother that is often forgotten in the institutionalised hospital setting.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adored
I really adored Kendall and Goose. Their love story was good and the overall feel of the book was angsty and emotional and beautiful. Getting to see the dimensions of the characters was awesome. I just absolutely adored Goose! He was an amazing hero and someone people can look up to because of how strong, approachable and ultimately human he is.
