About the author

Hi. I’m Graham Watkins and I have spent several years researching Welsh legends and myths. It has been a wonderful project and great fun as I explored rugged mountains, mysterious castles, enchanting waterfalls and golden beaches to discover the tales that have been handed down from generation to generation. Wales is a land of mystery and being a Celtic race the Welsh are fantastic story tellers. I've collected eighty of my favourite legends together in my book 'Welsh Legends and Myths.'
That’s how I started writing. My first novel 'The Iron Masters' was an historical novel set in Merthyr during the Napoleonic Wars when Merthyr Tydfil was rearming the British Empire, fortunes were being made through other's sweat and anything was possible. Today, I am a multi genre novelist, hobby farmer and explorer. It’s all been great fun and the story isn’t over yet. I've recently published 'A White Man's War,' the story of a terrible siege during which the Scouting movement was born and 'The Sicilian Defence' a novel about a young American Woman lured to Sicily to a terrible fate.
Right now I'm working on a modern day political thriller in which terrorists, computer programmers and a big brother state fight for their very survival. Checkout my website for the latest news and details of free eBooks which I love to give away. www.grahamwatkins.info I know you'll enjoy them and come back for more.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2017Very well researched and written, Graham. My father's family has been traced back to 17th Century Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and I enjoyed reading, not only about the follies, but the history of the land and the people. I especially like the story of Tan y Coed. I wish I had a place like that here. The ultimate man cave! This is must read. It only took me about an hour, and, as I said, it is an interesting look at the people and places that make up a part of Wales' rich history. Can't wait to read more of your work.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2016Great free book on interesting buildings around Wales. Each entry includes a photo and tells the history of the building from its origin to present day use. My favorite parts were the Gothic descriptions and ghost reports of some of the buildings. The smallest house was also fun to read about. An enjoyable read for those who like old buildings and the history that goes with them.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2017A short sweet, nicely written story about old old buildings, castle like in their nature. I met the author in twitter, the man on the swing.
Highly recommended and I believe it is permanently free.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2016Great book for those who aren't overly interested in architectural oddities or aren't sure if they are. If this book makes you want more, try the author's other book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2016What a delightful short book and the author states at the start that he can't vouch for the authenticity of the origins of the tales. No matter, they were all good and interesting. I have a love of architecture and short stories, so this book was a must for me.
The organisation of the chapters and information presented By Graham Watkins was first class -tidy, concise but detailed. Loved it! To add to this marvellous book the author has included photographs that are interesting and of a high standard. I haven't visited Wales but would definitely take this little gem with me if/when I do.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2015This is a wonderful small book about ten of Wales's most extraordinary buildings: from a haunted lighthouse to the smallest house, the author has found a marvellous selection. The chapters show photographs and explain the background and the history and myths around each one of the houses. Really interesting stories and insights. The tourist board of Wales shold be interested in this. I have read this on my kindle and would have wished for more pictures but the author has certainly stirred my curiosity and I can sense a few trips to Wales coming on.

Graham did an amazing job at capturing the uniqueness of each of the buildings presented in this book. The way the buildings were described make me want to visit each one! 4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting short read
A nice short read. Each chapter looks at the stories and myths about ten Welsh buildings. Some stories I was aware of as they were mentioned when I was in school. Other stories or even the buildings, I had not heard of before. It was therefore nice to reminisce about the past and also learn something new. I think the book suits someone wanting to visit the places mentioned in the book and also people who currently live in Wales who wish to read the history of some Welsh buildings.
I used the kindle app on my smartphone to read this short read - the active table of contents was very useful and means I can go back and read some of the favourite stories as and when I want.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good book to start
This is a good book to start with if you have an interest in Wales and it's architectural history.
I enjoyed reading about the characters that lived in these ten places. I wish it had been longer, hopefully there will be more.
