Sacramento Dirtier (Locked & Loaded Series Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 61 ratings

Meet Colin Rand, California’s new governor. He’s hot. He’s dirty-mouthed. He’s hotter and dirtier in bed. A new sizzling M/M romance release from Amazon #1 Bestselling Gay Fiction author Susan Ward.

When Hollywood leading man Colin Rand runs for governor, hoping the publicity will revive his dwindling career, he surprises the world—and most of all himself—by winning. Why he’s surprised is anyone’s guess, though, since things work differently in the golden state, and if an actor can make it to the top in politics anywhere, California is the place.

Now, this pretty boy from the Southland is landlocked in the capital, trapped between warring political factions and a press watching his every move, just waiting for him to fail. Worse, he has to keep his sexual activities under wraps if he hopes to run the state instead of having the press run him.

What he doesn’t expect is for Sacramento to be even more of a hotbed of lust, lies, jealousy, and revenge than the film industry.

And he certainly doesn’t expect to catch the eye of Senator Miles James.

Sacramento Dirtier is a humorous, flirty novel about one man’s quest to change his career direction and a series of unexpected turns that change the direction of his life.

Hello! Thank you for checking out my Amazon Author Page. I like exciting heroes who keep you guessing, and intelligent, complicated heroines who make them work to get them. My stories are filled with twists you won't see coming and my Happy Endings are never cookie-cutter, but always deliciously satisfying. My series include The Parker Series; The Affair Without End Series; The Sand & Fog Series; and The Locked & Loaded Series. I'm the mother of grown daughters, a grandmother, and I live with my husband and dog, Lady. My favorite things to do are writing an angsty HEA love story, drinking coffee, eating chocolate, having a good glass of wine, traveling, watching sappy movies, and chatting with my readers.

For some odd reason I didn't really like this story. I kept feeling chaos during my reading of it. Its OK.. No major problems with grammar or dialogue but it just felt off.

This book is different from the usual m/m romance. That said, it sizzles...
I thought at first that the plot was improbable, but by the last page, I'd completely fallen in love with the characters. I highly recommend this one.
Loved the mention of The Manny, my all-time favorite Susan Ward book.

Tl;Dr- I enjoyed the book and will read other books by this author. This is not purely m/m and has m/f relationship & sex.

I'm finding it a little complicated to explain my thoughts on this book. I'll be clear and state right off the bat that it was a good book and I do recommend it. I didn't find it to be a standard m/m story (more bisexual) or to be told in typical fashion. I guess the best route is to explain why it didn't quite make five stars for me. I have a few criteria for five stars but the main ones would be:

Will I most likely read this book again? I don't know that I'd re-read this one, but I will definitely read more by this author.

Did I fall in love with the main character(s)? I liked everyone. Colin is rather arrogant but he's honest about it. It's part of his charm and it's humorous. He's very likable despite his flaws, but perhaps it's because of the way the story was told, I didn't ever love him. It was an enjoyable story about three likable people, but I was never personally invested in them. I just enjoyed reading the story but I wasn't emotionally involved.

And thirdly, were there any moments- funny, poignant, fantasy fueling, that I keep replaying in my mind? Not really. This book was very smartly written. I felt from the get go that it was on a bit of a higher caliber and the author really has talent. It was humorous, and fun and enjoyable, but I don't think I'm going to have any lingering memories of it. For some reason, as I mentioned before, I wasn't emotionally involved or vested. Perhaps because the story starts out in the present with a conflict immediately transpiring, and then proceeds to go somewhat back in time to explain how they got to the present day situation. But it takes a bit of an "Inception" route, where instead of a dream within a dream, it's going back in time to catch us up, but then within that past time frame, going back again to yet catch us up to that point. I did manage to follow along but it did get a little tricky and I had to pause and mentally catch up once or twice just to remember exactly what happened right before we time shifted again. Again, I did manage to follow along, and perhaps I'll be the only one to experience a moment of pause to catch up, but I thought it was worth mentioning because I think maybe this is why I never fully connected. Also, as I mentioned before, this isn't a straight up m/m book. This is more bisexual. Yes, Colin identifies originally as bisexual (he doesn't like labels but that's basically what it boils down to) but that's not why I say this is a bisexual story. Usually, in my experience, m/m unless otherwise noted, only deals with m/m sex and/or relationship. This story actually almost focused more on Colin's relationship with his ex-wife Abby than it did with his relationship with Miles. And it felt like there were more m/f sex descriptions then m/m. It felt to me that I was reading more about Colin and Abby and Miles was a secondary character. I mention this because if you're looking for straight up m/m and don't want to read about m/f sex then you should know. If you only like to read about the main couple together with no outside relationships or sexcapades, then again, you should know. But I'll be clear that I still found the story enjoyable, just not typical to my usual experience. Now even though I was only expecting to read about m/m interactions, all of the scenes were very well done. Even scenes that weren't full on sex were temperature raising, but sometimes you're looking to read something specific.

So while it didn't fit my preconceived expectations it was well written, enjoyable, and I do recommend it. I don't mean for this review to come off as though I didn't enjoy it, it just wasn't what I was expecting, which isn't a bad thing at all, but I thought that my review should let others know what to expect so that it may be more enjoyable without anyone having to shift their outlook. I think this author really has a lot of talent and I look forward to reading more by her.

After reading and loving The Manny, it really bothered me that I hated this one. Don't get me wrong the two MC's were great, but there seemed to be absolutely no time dedicated to showing us how they really fell in love. The storytelling was all over the place and the chapters were labeled with names and vague time situations, but never stated if present day or in the past. So, THAT was pretty confusing and frustrating to be left to figure that out for myself. Another thing that bothered me alot was the fact that two grown men in their mid-thirties ended almost every sentence with ",hon." I mean, really? My grandmother used to call me that. Anyway, that's neither here nor there really in the grand scheme of things. It just irked me and I found myself pretending the word wasn't there while reading.
Also, didn't like the character of Abby. Didn't really see the need for her to be honest. I hated the relationship between her and Colin. Colin is in bed telling her that he'd fallen in love with Miles and she pretty much brushes off his confession. And she's supposed to be his best friend? What does she actually do? She manipulates him into getting her pregnant immediately after he tells her he's in love with another man. That was almost a DNF moment for me. But, I rarely DNF anything, so I kept reading. All in all, I really didn't like this book. But, if you're looking for a quick, cutesy read, you may enjoy it.
Now ,my biggest pet peeve as a reader of strictly M/M books. This book has an MC who is bisexual and there are M/F sex scenes on page and off page. So, this is fair warning for those out there with like minds. There are many people out there who read only M/M because they do not enjoy and M/F situations. We pay for your books. Then we read them and come across a scene like that and it is not a happy discovery. So, please all I ask is that if you are marketing a book as M/M and you include some M/F situations, let your readers know. That way they can maybe pass on that one and find another of your book to read instead.

This book was ok but not nearly as good as her other books , e.g. Alan,Chrissie and family, Parker Series and locked. & Loaded Series. It wasn't one you couldn't put down.
