4.5 out of 5 stars 1,580 ratings

Will guilt and bad choices prevent these two friends from falling in love?

Lavender Vaile barely survived a madman, and the ordeal became the catalyst for re-evaluating her entire life. While working for an aid organization in Afghanistan her worst nightmare comes true when she is taken hostage by insurgents. Rescued by her best friend and his team of SEALs, one moment of passion changes everything, and the new life she was building could come tumbling down around her.

For Eric "Night" McNamara friendship means everything and when Lavender is kidnapped he'll do anything to save her life and help her heal from the trauma. Anything. Including sleeping with her. But guilt and past mistakes have him tucking tail and running when he realizes that sometimes friendship can blossom into something more. When Lavender disappears a second time he will have to set everything aside and let his heart rule if he wants to get her back alive.

From best friends to more. Eric and Lavender became fast friends and knew everything about each other from their pasts – mistakes, guilt, regret, hardships, family troubles to their hopes and dreams for the future. Even though they were both really attracted to the other they never thought their friendship would develop into more. But when Lavender is taken and held hostage Eric will do whatever he has to to find her and bring her home. Wanting to keep her safe and help her heal from her trauma, the realization of the situation and possible outcome hits them both hard and feelings start to change. What starts out as an amazing connection quickly turns awkward and unsure and an unexpected situation has Lavender running away.

Up to this part of the story, I thought it was fantastic. However, at this point I became irritated with them both – him for what started the problem, her for leaving, and both of them for not just communicating. There was a lot of push/pull and angst and several misunderstandings could have been avoided with a conversation. Lavender was not quite as strong and gutsy as I hoped she would be. Eric, though, I liked his determination and resolve to find her and work through their problems. The twist was gripping and suspenseful and total edge-of-your-seat. Totally did not see that coming! I love how patient and caring and attentive Eric became with Lavender after everything that transpired and though she still irritated me a little I love the outcome, their HEA.

There is plenty to hold your attention in this story. It’s full of suspense, emotions, action, danger, fun times, somber moments, shocks and twists, family, friends, and love. Also, we get to catch up with the other characters in the series. Looking forward to Saving Owen!

A very intense and suspenseful thriller a woman who has the misfortune of being kidnapped and tortured while in Afghanistan. Luckily is rescued by a Seal Team and a man who also happens to be a member. Once rescued, their friend zone starts to change into a romantic attraction. When back in the States and as this couple both struggle with emotional insecurities, she is kidnapped once again.

Saving Eric: WOW! Fantastic writing and dialog! I liked that it was a friend to Lovers story! Eric would do anything to save Lavender! That had been friends a long time and confirmed in each with a lot things in life. She always worried about him as much as he worried about her. The bond they was like know other. It was an amazing.

The plot was a normal run of the mill. Very good story with a great ending. Loving the series and am a new reader for the author.

Lavender is a sweet character who has some horrible luck. She has been kidnapped more than once and faced some horrible events. Eric is a strong character who is broody and full of guilt. They have an interesting dynamic and take a friendship and turn it into more…but in an odd path. The team is fantastic and the depth of the relationships and blend of different type of actions and love was fun to read. I did not see that final twist coming and thought it was a great story way to bring the story and couple back together. The ending was good and left me ready to read the next book to see how the new baby is, how the new couple is doing and what is up with two ex wives and one of them calling another team mate!

Wow I'm impressed with this second installment and couldn't put it down. It's awful how guilt holds you back from what you want most. In this case I'm so glad to see that fear and guilt did not win.

I have to tell you, I was a little disappointed with this book. It just seemed a little far fetched that someone could be kidnapped that many times. And it kept mentioning her first kidnapping but there was no real back story there so it was confusing. I liked the characters and their interaction with each other. I look forward to the next book, hopefully it will clear up some of my answers.

As always with this author, I was captivated from the very first page. Even though it’s only her second book in the military genre, you would think she had be writing it for years. So good!

I have read quite a few of the cross-over books involving characters from the Heroes books. This is one of the best: well written, characters fully developed and definitely plenty of action. Could this woman (Lavender) have any more bad luck?! 'Night' and her have had a long courtship, even if they didn't know that's what was happening. When their relationship changes they find some of their past actions - especially for Night - muddy things. Best friends for years, they suddenly find communication is about zero.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story but needs proofreading something fierce

I love a book series with teams. I'm totally addicted and I've read 130 of them in the last 7 weeks and I was happy, and relieved, to find another team story. This isn't the only book that needs proofreading, others in this series too, but other authors also neglect it. However, even though I have stumbled in the flow of the sentence until my brain caught up with the intent, I have really enjoyed the story and ever so grateful it is NOT written in the first person because I just can't read them past the first line. Great job Jane.
