About the Author

Allegra Huston has written screenplays, journalism and one previous book, Love Child: A Memoir of Family Lost and Found (2009). After an early career in publishing in the UK, including four years as editorial director of Weidenfeld & Nicolson, she joined the film company Pathé as development consultant. She wrote and produced the award-winning short film Good Luck, Mr. Gorski (2011), and is on the editorial staff of the international art and culture magazine Garage. She lives in Taos, New Mexico, with her fifteen-year-old son.

This is the book of the Imaginative Storm method, which Navé and I have developed over the last 20 years. We have also just published 50 Imaginative Storm Writing Prompts, a gorgeous full-color coil-bound workbook, also available on Kindle.

My memoir, Love Child: A Memoir of Family Lost and Found, attracted the review above from a notoriously tough British reviewer! I've also published a novel, A Stolen Summer (Say My Name in hardback), and two books for writers: How to Edit and Be Edited, and How to Read for an Audience.     This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Very refreshing! So real. A woman has gone along with a good portion of her adult life with her head in the clouds, believing that everything was "fine" with her life. Her loveless - separate bedrooms - marriage. It takes someone showing her how to live a little bit on the edge to find herself and the part of herself she had buried. Going through a very unfulfilling life, she doesn't realize is unfulfilling until she becomes ... fulfilled. :) The ending was perfect and though it might not have ended with a nice cozy, neatly wrapped in a bow way, it ended perfectly! It left me wanting, craving more MORE MORE! I never read a book more than once, but I could see myself re-reading this one!

    I couldn't read SAY MY NAME immediately.

    There was no Larry for me but it was far too close to the bones of a chapter of my own life,
    so I put it to down for another time when I would feel more able to tackle it.

    Planning to read a chapter a day, I sat down with the book yesterday.
    I devoured it in one sitting.

    It is the most beautiful book.

    I knew the writing would be exquisite but the authenticity of the story, the characters
    and their responses is indisputable. It's an odd turn of phrase to use about a novel,
    but you've conjured up a piece of reality.

    It's an important book for many reasons that I'm sure you know including its understanding
    of the nature of Love, about not allowing the fetters of Society to prevent us living Life to the
    full despite the risks and that Great Love is never really over.

    It will be an inspiration to those who have not experienced such things yet and a comfort
    to those who have.

    Not just a great read, SAY MY NAME will be magical bounty for many.

    What a delicious story! Allegra Huston’s prose sparkles on the page with vivid details. She draws us into her characters with intelligent, psychologically insightful observations. Eve feels like a good friend I will miss now that I’ve finished the book. Through an irresistible muse she is enticed out of her world and into another - more lush, sensual, dangerous, and alive - only to transcend that world as well when the real truth of her emerges - a hero’s journey. I love the arc of the story and the pacing; there was always a bit of suspense I felt, and I was eager to keep turning the pages. It has humor, social relevance, and delighted all of my senses.
