Scandal's Daughter (Rogues and Gentlemen Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 1,470 ratings

Sebastian Grenville, The Duke of Sindalton.
Known as Sin to the ton, he has had his fair share of scandal. His father's involvement in what became referred to as 'The Scandal of the Century' plunged him into the spotlight at the tender age of twelve, and he's been there ever since. Egged on by his best friend, Beau - The Marquis of Beaumont, his life is one of dissipation and ease.

But every duke needs an heir.
Everyone knows Sindalton is in the market for a wife. Both men, bored to death by balls and matchmaking mamas, go to a friend's hunting lodge in Cornwall. But caught in a storm, Sindalton heads for cover. Seeking shelter in a cave, the duke is delighted when he stumbles upon Miss Georgiana Bomford, the niece of the local doctor.

But the feisty red-headed beauty is unimpressed by his attempt to entice her. Sindalton, however, is captivated and intent on seduction, makes her the target of his all too tempting charms.

But Georgiana is not who he thinks she is, and when they meet again in London, the scandalous past is in danger of repeating itself.

The Story was wonderful. I really enjoyed Sebastian & Georgiana's characters.
I am looking forward to reading Beau (Marquess of Beaumont) & Milly's (Millicent) story in the next book in this series.

It was a good read. I was surprised the Duke was such a sweetheart after the way he was painted in the previous book. He was a good guy, believed in love, admitted he was in love even though his initial reason for not marrying the heroine were thin IMO. Over all I like both characters though this book didn’t have the spice of the previous two. I almost felt this was simply a prequel for the next book. The hero in the upcoming book featured frequently in this one as the villain. This seems to be a thread in this series. The “villain” of the previous book is the hero in the next and they end up not being villainous at all; just misunderstood or doing the wrong thing with the best intentions.

I’ve found in historical romance novels. The author created a true love which was organic, not contrived, and with plenty of intrigue to boot. I was surprised at the direction the author went with the Hero, as he seemed much more suave and aloofly sensual in the previous book (more like his best friend Beau, really) than the charming, boyish Duke in this one. Once I got past this character shift, I could embrace him as the Hero.

Because Amazon does not allow partial stars via the Kindle App, I have given this a 5 because it definitely deserves more than 4 for the plot elements alone. When an author can bring me to tears, it means character development is top notch as well. However, I did have a few problems, starting with the way the Hero treated the utterly perfect heroine, even though he loved her. He lied about his identity, he came close to taking the heroine’s virginity when she was a “nobody” (even though he knew he “couldn’t” marry her because she was a “nobody”), and he waited until the 11th hour to finally offer her marriage even after he knew she had the bloodline “cred” he apparently needed. He was willing to give her the cut direct before he even knew who she was - when he thought she was just the daughter of the “harlot” who stole his father. Our hero has some serious character flaws, and one has the niggling suspicion that Lord Nibley is the only one that truly deserves the heroine. Even so, the Hero manages to redeem himself mostly, and he has only the author’s talents and the heroine’s love to thank.

Also on my list of grievances is the Hero’s groom’s vicious characterization of the heroine’s mother as a “bitch.” It is never explained why he feels such a strong negative way considering he should have been close to the Hero’s father. I suspect it was a foreshadowing tool, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. The family doctor portrays a much different reality — FINALLY! I would love to read the parents’ love story, sans the tragic ending, and to have had an epilogue in this one perhaps telling us what happened with the Hero’s mother after they returned home. And of course I could not help but feel tremendous pity for Beau because, honestly, up until the end, he treated the heroine with more honor and respect than the Hero. I’m looking forward to reading his love story. And I hope Lord Nibley ends up being an undercover spy for the Home Office who, in fact, does know his way around not only rocks but a woman’s heart because he certainly deserves his own story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Sebastian and Georgiana's romance seemed impossibly doomed initially, yet succeeds without any clever writing tricks. The typical romance stupidities never occur (no one jumps to stupid conclusions or runs away). Though less than perfect, the main characters are quite likable. I had difficulty putting it down. Sindalen was intriguing in the Earl's Temptation and grows more so as this story progresses.

The story itself deserves 5 stars, but numerous mechanical errors forced me to rate it as only 4. The story's flow is ruined when a reader has to stop and puzzle out the author's meaning because a word is missing or the singular subject has a plural verb.

I look forward to the next book in the series.

A sweet AND steamy romance, with truly believable characters. Georgiana is lovely and very human. Sebastian is handsome, virile and also very human. The tale could have been a real ‘meller-dramer’ complete with wicked uncle and a slightly villainous rival, but the dynamics were much more deftly handled. I found it very worth reading and am planning to follow up on this author. I did note a few grammatical errors, because I’ve been an editor, but it worth 5 stars.

I really liked the lead characters and the plot. I was totally rooting for them. My only negatives are that they had enough drama without her other suitors being who they were. I get the author was setting up more books, but it was just too over the top and put me off a bit. Also, there was a lot of time where Georgiana was with other characters, so it felt like half the book their story wasn’t evolving, but Georgie’s was progressing with others. In a longer book that works, but that many scenes without the 2 main characters makes it hard to become entranced in their story. All that said, it was a really enjoyable read. I loved Celeste and Alex (they were who they could have been in their story), and the other characters to a certain extent. I will continue to read the series as it’s enjoyable.

When Georgianna and Sebastian shelter from a sudden storm in a cave, being a wealthy duke, he gives his best friend's name instead of his own. Georgianna has been raised by her aunt and uncle, knowing only that her mother and father died when she was going. Neither would have guessed that their brief encounter would lead to the revelation of long held secrets.
Fast paced, well writter, this story is one of my recent favorites. I recommend it for mature readers. Enjoy!

Another well written book , and engaging plot. Sebastian the Duke of Sindalton, played the heroine Georgina false in the beginning, claiming the identity of his 'best friend ' Beau Beaumont, when he first meets her. The story is full of angst and mis doings, with the Dower Duchess being ill done to by he r late husband who had an affair and subsequent scandal with the mother of Georgina (unknown to her) but she was tainted by it. Georgina had a guardian uncle who was not unlike a pantomime villain, and a nasty piece of work to boot, happily he got his comeuppance. On meeting Georgina Beau became enamoured by her and her money which he needed badly, Beau and Sebastian fall out over the same, Sebastian finally stands up to his mother, who by this time is well on the way to insanity, the plot becomes very entertaining, we once again meet the Earl of Falmouth and Celeste his wife from Book 2. All in all I would say the book is well worth a read and would thoroughly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ansich nette Geschichte, aber einige Patzer stören enorm
Reviewed in Germany on February 2, 2020
