4.4 out of 5 stars 1,090 ratings

Only an unfair universe makes a guy who’s that gorgeous so damned obnoxious.

A-hoe!
Poindexter!
Snarky, superbrain Dobbs and snooty football star Jesse stare at each other from their rival frat houses on opposites sides of the street -- and opposite sides of everything else.

Alpha Lambda Alpha and Sigma Mu Tau have been sworn enemies for decades. Then one disastrous prank proves to be the final straw, and the college dean blows his cork!

Work together or lose both your houses.

Question - -How can Dobbs win his coveted Quiz Bowl championship when he’s forced to put a dumb jock on his team?
Answer -- Lots of personal schooling.

But when personal becomes very personal, Jesse risks causing his overtaxed family one more huge worry and the running back starts running.

Will Dobbs give up on the shocked jock, or show him that the answer to the big question is, Yes?

SCHOOLING THE JOCK is an enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, campus romance – with one hell of a lightning round.

This story is cute, it’s our typical YA romance. Jessie and Dobs were really good together. Although poor Jessie seem to have the weight of the world on his shoulders with his family.
It was surprising to see Dobs getting along with the twins, because he was an only child. But that seem to work in his favor with Jessie.
However, I was not please with the conflict at the end. Even though it worked out for the story, throughout the book, we saw that Jesse didn’t have a mean bone in his body. He could have tried to hide or pretend to not see his friend rather than saying all those mean things about Dobs. It like he had an instant personality change. Apart from that, the book was really fun.

Schooling The Jock is a sweet and sexy tale of expectations versus reality. Jeffrey Dobbs and the Sigma Mu Tau are the brainiacs on campus and the Alpha Lambda Alpha and Jesse Knox are the jocks with all the attendant expectations that go with those clichés. This story and the two that are to follow set those clichés on end. Jeffrey may be a Brainiac but he is also an out and proud gay man and a runner. Jesse surprises us all by being an upper level nursing student, what a jock with a brain?! Oh and he is a closeted gay man. This story had me loving these characters so much and rooting for them.

We’ve all read the jock and the nerd romance stories before. This has that trope, plus the enemies-to-lovers trope down pat.

Dobbs belongs to a brainiac frat that is in a prank war with a neighboring jock frat. A prank gets out of hand and the Dean forces the two frats to join forces - or else.

With the fate of their houses on the line, the nerds and jocks have to work together. That is how football running back Jesse gets nominated to compete on the rival frat’s Quiz Bowl team. Dobbs is roped into tutoring him. The two MCs put up a good front for their houses, but most of the animosity seems to be based on erroneous assumptions and the lust these two have been hiding from each other and their frat mates. Who wants to be attracted to a rival who’s also a jerk? Especially when one of you are “straight.”

The characters are fleshed out pretty well, especially Jesse, since we get to meet his family and learn what made him who he is. At least Dobbs learns not to judge a book by its sexy cover. The only weird thing to me is that often the “nerdy” characters seemed more like stereotypical jocks (rude, judgmental, ego-driven, privileged) while the jocks seemed to have pretty good heads on their shoulders.

Fans of the jock/nerd trope will probably enjoy this romance a lot.

The book plays into stereotypes of frat life, with feuding frats—one full of nerds, the other housing jocks—playing pranks on each other until they get into trouble with the administration. In this case, the admin decrees that the two houses must partner up for their extracurricular activities, with some of the jocks joining the nerd’s quiz bowl team and a couple nerds learning playing flag football. Participating in Quiz Bowl together is what sets Quiz Bowl team captain Dobbs and running back Jesse on the road to romance.

At first, I was a little bored, because the plot did seem so very stereotypical. In some ways it stays that way—jock and nerd realize they’ve misjudged each other and respect grows between them, which paves the way for romance. What finally got me invested in the storyline and the characters was Jesse’s complicated family situation. That gave the book some much needed additional depth and emotion beyond the love story.

It’s a nice read, but I did expect a little bit more from a collaboration between these two authors, given how much I’ve enjoyed some of their other novels.

This review is based on a complimentary advanced reader copy; all opinions are my own.

What’s not to love?! Feuding frats of jocks and nerds! This is first story of a series and was a great story. Jesse is dealing w/ a lot with school and family, and spends most of his time studying or training to keep his scholarship. He ends up having to work with Dobbs and train for the Quiz bowl on top of everything. Dobbs thinks Jesse is stuck up and hot, but learns there is more to him. Jesse is in the closet and is scared about coming out and reacts in panic in some situations. I enjoyed the back and forth between the 2 and the HEA. Looking forward to the next book.

The book, while hot and steamy, is the embodiment of “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”.although they are both very different on the surface, they learn to see the similarities, and to appreciate and learn from each other. It’s an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end, and one I’d gladly jump on again. A nice summer-read to escape into on those rainy days ,or on the beach, just make sure there are no kids around. ;)

Eli Easton and Tara Lain are two of my favorite authors and I have read every book they have written so this book was a must. The plot is clever and funny and the enemies to lovers part of the story was beautifully accomplished. I enjoyed a lot the romance, the not-so-jock characters and all the banter and camaraderie they developed. The book is entertaining and witty and at the end I discovered that started a series so I can't wait for what is coming next! An amazing reading!

Two of my favourite mm authors writing a book together? An mm romance that's like a story arc on Greek the tv show? Yes please, I'm in.

This is a college aged romance with enemies to lovers and forced proximity tropes. Dobbs and Jesse are from feuding fraternity houses and are forced to work together after the Dean intervenes. Along the way, they discover they might have more in common than they first thought.

The way the authors' have written these two characters discovering that they've made incorrect assumptions about each other feels very organic, and the way Jesse and Dobbs interact with Jesse's family is just beautifully done.

Even the inevitable breaking point is cleverly handed and felt authentic. I particularly enjoyed Dobbs' very self aware reaction to this plot point, it made for a very healthy conclusion instead of reinforcing toxic behaviours that often exist in college romances (more so in MF, but to a degree in MM).

The side characters are all super memorable, and the authors' mention in their notes that they have two more stories coming out involving some of these guys so definitely keep an eye out.

Read this if you like Tara Lain or Eli Easton, the CU Hockey universe by Eden Finley and Saxon James, college romance, nerds vs jocks, kooky side characters, forced proximity and enemies to lovers.

I received an ARC and have chosen to leave an honest review.

Funny and emotional college romance. Jesse and Dobbs belong to two rival frat houses. LAL is the jock house and SMT, the nerd house . One prank too many and both houses are on their last warning. Work together or risk being closed down by the dean if they don't follow his plan. The deal is that 2 LAL brothers need to join SMT' s quiz bowl team and 2 SMT brothers have to play on LAL's flag football team. Jesse is one of the jocks forced to join the SMT quiz team whose captain is none other than his nemesis Dobbs. Both men have preconceived ideas about the other while secretly lusting after each other. They gradually discover that there is a lot more honest other under the uptight, arrogant façade. Jesse is in the closet because of his complicated family situation and his position as a football player on a sport scholarship. When they are forced to travel to Jesse's parents ' farm for an emergency, they start to see behind each other's defensive walls. Dobbs sees how devoted Jesse is to his family and Jesse sees how accepting and kind Dobbs really is. Their story is joyful, fun and emotional. The scenes at the farm are especially sensitive and touching. I loved that Jesse and Dobbs are from ordinary backgrounds facing real problems. Will definitely read it again.
