Entertaining and sweet second chance romance!
This was a heartfelt and sweet second chance romance! I loved the emotion, drama, and passion between Dexter and Dakota. It was a really entertaining story that made my heart happy!I loved Dexter and Dakota and learning about their history. I liked the details of their youth and what happened between them and where they're at now in the present. Dexter was such a sweet guy, he seemed to wear his heart on his sleeve and I liked how he was trying to reconnect with Dakota. I loved Dakota, she was trying to get her life back on track because of a minor scandal and I liked that perseverance. There’s a lot of tension between them as well as underlying passion and chemistry as they reconnect and work through their feelings because things aren't always as they seem. I loved the pull between them as they reconnect, there was a nice slow burn happening.There was a really great cast of characters introduced and I see the foundation for future stories that have been set up. I not only liked the healing taking place between Dakota and Dexter but also with her best friend Sinclair, they have a really great bond. There's were also some really nice moments with Dakota’s dad that choked me up. The storytelling was really well done with an excellent build. I liked the third person, dual POV and thought it flowed well and had really good details. There were some fun, playful scenes as well that brought in some really entertaining moments.I thought Second Chance on Cypress Lane was a great introduction to a new series. A sweet and fun story full of healing that will fill your heart and leave you smiling.Complimentary copy received from Forever Romance for review.

    It starts off with Dakota, 34, returning home to her small town from NYC as a result of a scandal. She lies to everyone, including her best friend (who was my fave side character). Dexter, 36, was her high school sweetheart who had suddenly dumped just before he went to college. Then there was whatever was ailing her father, who had more than one secret.

    The description of the small town was detailed and homey, except for a certain unhappy classmate who reveals more than Dakota expected. By the end, all of the secrets and lies are revealed as Dakota and Dexter go beyond their past to allow a future together.

    There are some sexy scenes, and I did like how they were able to rekindle their romance over the weeks. There was an additional twist that caused her to want to leave and not trust Dexter. Side characters including Sin (her friend) and Nick added to the storyline. I really liked Sin enough that I wanted her to have her own romance.

    Overall a satisfying, second chance romance without the teenage/ new adult angst.

    Dexter is a sweetheart. He can't believe the woman he's never gotten over is back in town, but those old feelings don't take long to overflow once again.

    I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a small town setting with a lot of heart.

    Dakota and Dexter were childhood sweethearts who broke up when Dexter wanted to see other people... or so he said. Now after being publicly humiliated and fired, Dakota is back home on Holly Grover Island trying to recuperate. And Dexter is everywhere, and he wants a second chance.

    The will they/ won't they dance was written very well. Dexter hiding something about the night he destroyed their relationship was something I suspected from the beginning and I wasn't really surprised when he revealed it. Dakota's father finding new love and companionship was sweet, although it grated on my nerves that Dakota felt a way about it, considering she was only home for her own motivation and spent a fair amount of the book contemplating when she would leave. It also wore on me that she spent so much time repeating the mantras of her mother knowing that she'd followed her advice to the T and her life still fell apart. It would have been nice for Dakota's arc to show her realizing for herself how harmful her mother's edicts had been, even without Dexter admitting his secret outright. Even if she was dead, there's no disrespect in acknowledging that sometimes someone's best isn't good enough. Also, it burned a little slower than even I was expecting.

    But even with that, it was a sweet, fun read. Dexter's issues with trying to take care of everyone were relatable. Sinclair was funny and real. Forgiveness is divine. I love their small town and Kota and Dex were passionate and free with each other when it was time to be. I think there's a follow up and I honestly would like to read it as well.

Even better, it was set in a quirky, small, coastal town, and I loved the trip to the beach I experienced, while reading Second Chance on Cypress Lane during a winter storm.
