New York Times bestseller Allison Brennan's two series collide in Shattered, a powerful, enthralling read about the craving for revenge and the desire for justice.

Over a span of twenty years, four boys have been kidnapped from their bedrooms, suffocated, and buried nearby in a shallow grave. Serial killer or coincidence?

That’s the question investigative reporter Maxine Revere sets out to answer when an old friend begs her to help exonerate his wife, who has been charged with their son’s recent murder. But Max can do little to help because the police and D.A. won’t talk to her―they think they have the right woman. Instead, Max turns her attention to three similar cold cases. If she can solve them, she might be able to help her friend.

Justin Stanton was killed twenty years ago, and his father wants closure―so he is willing to help Max with her investigation on one condition: that she work with his former sister-in-law― Justin’s aunt, FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid. Trouble is, Max works alone, and she’s livid that her only access to the case files, lead detective and witnesses depends on her partnering with a federal agent on vacation. She wants the career-making story almost as much as the truth―but if she gets this wrong, she could lose everything.

Haunted by Justin’s death for years, Lucy yearns to give her family―and herself―the closure they need. More important, she wants to catch a killer. Lucy finds Max’s theory on all three cases compelling―with Max's research added to Lucy’s training and experience, Lucy believes they can find the killer so justice can finally be served. But the very private Lucy doesn’t trust the reporter any more than Max trusts her.
Max and Lucy must find a way to work together to untangle lies, misinformation, and evidence to develop a profile of the killer. But the biggest question is: why were these boys targeted? As they team up to find out what really happened the night Justin was killed, they make a shocking discovery: Justin’s killer is still out there … stalking another victim … and they already may be too late.

Lucy's back!!!!
If you've been a fan of Brennan's, you'll be elated to have the return of the Kincaids in Abandoned! I loved Max and Lucy teaming up to woke the cold case of killed little boys. Including Lucy's family. Allison weaves a perfect story start to end as they find and solve these cold cases

While I’ve been a fan of Allison Brennan’s Lucy Kincaid series for a while, this is the first book I’ve read in the Max Revere series. In this case, Max and Lucy team up to find the person who murdered Lucy’s cousin, Justin, when he was a boy. This book is about more than Justin’s murder, however, but also deals with the shattering effect such a crime has on the peripheral family members- not just the parents, but the grandparents, aunts, uncles and friend of the victim.

While it took me a while to warm up to Max, in many ways she and Lucy are both a lot alike- they both have the same dedication to finding out the truth and to justice, while their approaches may be different. Watching them learn how to work together on this investigation was interesting. I’m not sure yet if I will read more in the Max Revered series, but I probably will at some point.

This one features Max Revere, a journalist, and Lucy Kincaid, an FBI agent, working on the same murder case: killings of 7-9 year old boys over a 20 year period. The way they build the evidence is fantastic and believable. Probably the best one yet in this double series. But I think I say that about every one of Allison Brennan's books after I read it! Her tight story line, character development, and interesting plots are amazing. There is always a psychological feel to the plot and learning more and more about Lucy and Lucy's family, and now Max, is interesting. For a year and a half, I've been reading the books in order of publishing and this was the 21st in the Lucy Kincaid and Max Revere series, including a few novellas. I read other books in between and happily go back to these.

I'm not fully sure how I feel about this book. On the one hand, I LOVED the Max storyline and her personal growth in this installment of the series. On the flip side, much of the book I found myself calling Sean not so nice names (he was really a ridiculous jerk at times IMO), and several times found Lucy to be annoying (though by the end of the storyline she was sorta growing on me again). I'm not going to give away any spoilers so suffice it to say that I cannot wait for the next Max novel, and I will read the next Lucy novel hoping to feel some of the magic from the earliest books in the series!

This book was a fantasy come true - two of my favorite series put together in one incredible mystery! Whether you're a fan of the Lucy Kincaid series or of the Max Revere series, there is enough of each of these characters to make you happy and perhaps, make you a fan of the other series as well. It was really fun to watch these strong characters meet, work together and stay true to themselves.

The story was incredibly suspenseful and emotional. It doesn't matter that it's not a whodunit, it is still suspenseful. Mysteries aren't just about the "who" but more importantly, about the "why." This plot was emotional, heartbreaking, raw and expertly woven. I tried to read it really slowly because I never wanted it to end.

There's a reason Allison Brennan is my favorite author and that reason in evident in all her books but especially in this novel. This was a great gift to her fans and I, for one, thank you Allison!

Family dynamics, cold cases, relationship changes and ramifications of heartbreaking crimes combine into one fantastic story. Lucy and Max join forces in this novel and both realize quite a few hints about themselves and their why. This was a great collaboration between the two because it involved both FBI and working around the lines. All the characters are beautifully developed and even when they are frustrating to the story they sell it so well. Missed having Jack and Kane, but it was great learning more about Carina, Conner and Lucy’s parents. Dillion is the MVP for this story, John breaks my heart, Lucy’s dad made me the maddest in terms of family dynamics and Lucy’s speech near the end was wrenchingly beautiful and open. Well done! Love these two individually and together. I hope to see another overlapping story!

Yet again, another grand slam for Allison Brennan. Once again, she proves to be one of the best authors around! Her writing has that special something that grabs a reader and doesn't let go. Personally, I cannot put any of her books down until I've read the entire book.

I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about Lucy and Max coming together. Two strong characters sharing a book just didn't seem like it would work. Wow, how wrong I was! I really enjoyed how both of them still got to shine and the mutual respect shown to each other was appreciated.

I don't like to write about what the book is about, that's what the description is for...I merely like to put my two cents in about whether or not it's worth purchasing. If you haven't bought it yet or on the fence, what are you waiting for?

What can I say I've read all of Kincaid / Rogan books. The last few have been good but not to the level of what I have come to expect of THE Allison Brennan. This book was amazing! I truly enjoy her characters that is why I am still reading this series. In the beginning, it always seemed as if Allison was having fun writing the books, and developing the storyline. A few of the last books in this series have felt like they were just written because her readers enjoyed the characters so much. It honestly feels like she was enjoying herself again. I am also really enjoying Max. I can't wait for the next book in that series. Thank you Ms. Brennan for giving Justin and the whole family Justice.
