    What do I love most about this book? Everything!

    One of my favorite things about Bree’s writing is I know I’m guaranteed big emotions, lovely MCs, and maybe that feeling of wanting to toss my e-reader across the room at least once. She delivers on all of that and more! This was a great ending to the serious and seriously, the writing gets better and better with each book!

    It’s so much fun to be in Dylan’s head and how he sees the world. The depiction of mental health in this book hit me perfectly - because that’s almost exactly the way I experience it.

    Being in Shane’s head was just as awesome. I love how he rolled with the things coming at him and was such an adult. Then you put these two together and the fire is so hot you have to read the smoke signals. ;)

    Also, definitely check out Dylan’s reading list. He has great taste.

    Smoke Signals is book 3 in the Perspective Series. The story of Dylan and Shane, it can be read as a standalone, but it is better enjoyed having read the previous books in the series first, as some of the timelines overlap.

    Dylan has a larger than life, in your face, warm personality. Having just moved into a new house next to a fire station, he does his best to be a good and friendly neighbor. He is hard not to love because his positivity and romantic heart are infectious and endearing.

    Shane is the much older, private, closeted fire captain next door, and Dylan's most recent one-night stand. A night that neither of them have been able to forget.

    Dylan's proximity throws Shane's carefully organized life into complete chaos, and no matter how much he tries to keep Dylan at arm's length, he can't help being drawn to his light.

    These two are funny, sweet, and have amazing chemistry...and I absolutely love how they communicate with one another. I also really like how understanding Dylan is about Shane's situation and feelings.

    Smoke Signals is another fun and emotion filled read from this talented author.

    This is the third installment of the Perspective series, and while I absolutely enjoyed the first one, (I have not yet read the second but will be doing so after this one) I struggled to connect with this one. I think Shane’s battle with his own sexuality was absolutely something understandable, but I did not like how he treated Dylan. He was quick to dismiss Dylan’s feelings because of his age but at the same time he was perfectly fine with the age gap when he only thought of Dylan as a mere hook up.

    I think most of the character development was spent on Shane and his growth from obviously struggling with internalized homophobia. I respect the need to highlight that growth; however, it felt like Dylan’s own character development was pushed to the backside. Because of that, Dylan felt almost one dimensional for me. It was felt like he only existed to help Shane realize his worth and value as a gay man.

    I wished there was more substance with Dylan. He definitely deserved more.
