Southern Storms: A Small Town Standalone Romance (The Compass Series) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 4,141 ratings

All I wanted to do was run away, I never expected to crash into his arms...

After leaving the city life behind to escape my loveless marriage, I moved to small town Havenbarrow for a fresh start.

What I didn’t expect was to find myself drawn to the town’s black sheep.

They called him troubled. Cold. A man with a dark past.

What everyone seemed to miss about Jax was the splashes of light in his eyes. The random acts of kindness he performed when no one was watching. The way he made me smile and laugh.

Jax helped unpack the baggage I’d been carrying around with me. He was patient with my pain and gentle with my scars. He was the stillness during my hurricane.

Yet when both of our pasts came back to haunt our present days, we realized quickly that sometimes love stories didn’t end the way we’d hoped.

Sometimes you were left with only the damage from the storm.

The MMC was described as a little of Jess from Gilmore Girls, Damon from Vampire Diairies, and Hook from Once Upon a Time... so yeah, already count me in! haha. Loved the several Gilmore Girls references especially. That show was my favorite growing up. I also LOL'd at the Joe from You stalker thoughts Kennedy had.

And omg, the do you want to build a snowman dream?! lmao. Dead.

Ugh, the library scene. If only!

    And those emotional moments...
"I like to believe that once Bethany left my side, she became the wind. Therefore I feel her everywhere.” She held her hand out and closed her eyes as she took in a deep inhalation. “Even during the storms.”

"I love you in a way that’s bigger than love. I love your sun rays and your moon shadows, and I am going to keep loving you and your broken pieces until you feel my love so strongly you forget your heart has any damaged cracks. Then, I’m going to love you more.”.

And the bubbles?! And the taking turns reading the book?! Ugh. What do you do to me, Brittainy?! I absolutely loved this story.

Cherry is one of the brightest lights in my AA author journey. While her tragedies seem extreme at times, they allow the reader to take inspiration from her work. Kennedy reminds us beauty doesn’t guarantee an easy life. The work both main characters put in is ideal and important in every day literature

This book could be summed up in one word, or two of three......awesome, fantastic, moving....and the adjectives could go on and on. This isn't my first Brittainy Cherry books. No, no, no! You can't read one and not go right into another. However, I read this one, for setting who the author was. My bad!! I read at least two books a day. Sometimes more. And sometimes, I'm not looking at author names. When I finished this book, all I could think about was, I loved it and wanted to get my hands on another by this author. To say I was surprised would be an understatement!! Brittainy's stories and words flow so smoothly, you don't feel like you're even reading. I know. What in the heck does this crazy woman mean?? Unless you have read, one of Brittainy's books, you won't ever know what I mean. Her words are so smooth, they just flow on the pages and in your mind. My words don't do it justice. Like all of Brittainy's books, the characters are broken, to some degree. You are immediately immersed into what they are feeling and have gone through. When the H/h meet, one is usually pretty snarky and makes you wonder how you will ever like H/h. Brittany has a way of making you feel their pain and want to give them a hug. I love Brittainy's books because they are each different. Different characters. Different set of problems to resolve. So many books are the same-o, same-o. Girl gets pregnant by her boss, who she hates, bothers best friend and so on. Same stories, different names. Thank you Brittainy for having an original story in your head!! Also, thank you for putting your books in Kindle Unlimited!! For someone of us who reads soo many books per week, there's no way we could, without KU!!

Thanks to a recommendation from a friend, I recently found this amazingly talented lady's work. This is the fourth book I’ve devoured in as many days, and I can’t get enough. I'd like to say that each story is better than the last, but they all have that special something that makes them an exquisite, beautiful, unique work that stands on its own.

Cherry's prose are profound poetry that resonates deep in the soul. Her characters are raw, broken, and authentic, so we unabashedly embrace them and feel their struggles and triumphs as our own. The premise is fresh and captivating, making it impossible to put down until after reaching the satisfying conclusion. And the themes of love, healing and forgiveness will restore hope in even the most jaded heart.

Get this book, read it, and let it consume you. Then collect the pearls of wisdom you’ll find here and guard them jealously in your heart. When the storms of life toss you about and you question if you'll ever see the sun again, think of Jax and Kennedy. Let their healing journey help you find your own.

I love Brittany’s writing. I read her entire Element series and enjoyed it. I have just started this series and now I am wondering, are all her book so sad and tragic?
Even though they have happily ever after endings, I always end each of her books feeling so sad. The stories are all heartbreaking.
Thankfully she always does a great job of creating lovable characters. Jax and Kennedy are no exception. You can’t help but root for them

5.0 out of 5 stars Um livro incrível como só Brittainy poderia escrever

"If you need to run away, run away to me." ❤

Oh man, this was such a heartwarming book. At first, I didn’t know how I was going to feel about it in the beginning. I was annoyed with the main character because all I wanted was for her to stand up for herself and not let people walk over her the way they did. Then, she reconnected with Jax and boy did my heart swell. If you read the story, I’m telling you you won’t be disappointed

This was very deep and emotional. I’m never really a fan of two broken souls finding solace in each other, since I’m a strong believer in getting professional help but this book rewrote that concept for me. Kennedy grieved for a loveless marriage and the loss of a child and her parents, whilst Jax grieved his mother and a father who loathed every breath he took.

These two killed others around them with nothing but kindness especially to each other (even though Jax had his own way of being a grumpy softie). They were each other’s sun and moon, a rock they could both lean on and reading their story made me realise that I can take something from how they lived their life and got over hurdles. I’ve always been a strong believer that your significant other should be your best friend first before loving them in a relationship capacity and this is why, they’ve seen you at your worse so the only way left to go is up.

Finally, this book had humour, Whitt and an amazing HEA. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a thought provoking second chance contemporary romance.
