Someday My Duke Will Come Paperback – January 12, 2021
Purchase options and add-ons
Lady Clara Ashford had no intention of ever getting married. A rogue took advantage of her innocence when she was young, and she’s spent her whole life trying to make sure no one finds out. But now that her sister is engaged, Clara’s well-meaning aunt has set her sights on Clara. Desperate to avoid the matchmaking schemes, Clara’s not sure what to do—until her neighbor, the new Duke of Reigate, shows up on her doorstep in need of her help.
Quincy Nesbitt reluctantly accepted the dukedom after his brother’s death, but he’ll be damned if he accepts his brother’s fiancée as well. The only polite way to decline is to become engaged to someone else—quickly. Lady Clara has the right connections and happens to need him as much as he needs her. But he soon discovers she’s also witty and selfless, and if he’s not careful, he just might lose his heart.

About the author

Christina Britton developed a passion for writing romance novels shortly after buying her first at the tender age of thirteen. Though for several years she turned to art and put brush instead of pen to paper, she has returned to her first love and is now writing full time. She spends her days dreaming of corsets and cravats and noblemen with tortured souls.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2024I loved Quincy’s story. Great writing concerning his awful mother. She even had me scared of her! Wonderful book. I highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2021How fun to read Quinn’s and Clara’s HEA and the ongoing lives of Peter and Lenora and crew. A few good challenges, especially Quinn’s family, yet love and understanding prevailed so I could smile. I do enjoy Ms. Britton’s writing.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2022The story of Quincy and Clara it had it's up and downs. To carry the burden of having a child out of wedlock, only to have it die shortly after birth, it started to take it's toll on her. Clara carried that secret for fifteen years, to tell the ones she loved was very difficult, they did not hate her but made them love her that much more. I'm glad in the end they got to have their HEA. I highly recommend this book! 👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2021This book is fun and fast moving. You won't want to put it down. Had plenty of twists and some laughs too. Highly recommend this series! Can't wait for the next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2021Christina Britton has once again charmed me with a book full of mystery, romantic tension, and drama! The first book had even more angst than this one, and I especially loved the best friend, Quincy, throughout the story. When I found out the next book would be his HEA, I was over the moon. While I expected more humor, given his character in the first book, it was apparent that he would undertake a more serious demeanor in his own story, given the dark undertones in his own story as well as that of his heroine. There is quite a serious element in this story that might be triggering for some of you, so proceed with caution. You'll get enough hints that you can draw back if you need to, before it gets too difficult to read, but I highly encourage reading until the end. I felt so much better seeing things resolve and seeing how life after trauma can improve and grow into something even better than before.
Quincy Nesbitt left home at the age of 14, feeling unwanted and unloved by his own family, and he made a new one starting with his best friend. When he returns years later as a man, the last people he wants to see are those who wanted to throw him away. However, as a courtesy, he visits his childhood home and learns devastating news - not only are his brothers all dead but their deaths have made him a duke. He had plans to travel, finally do what his father longed to do with him, and now he is tied down to save a dying estate. Oh yes, and his mother wants him to marry his late brother's fiance. Luckily, his good friend Lady Clara Ashford is there to save the day...and announce that he can't marry the other woman because he is engaged to Clara. A bit unexpected but a welcome relief from his vindictive mother. Clara never had any intention of marrying after a tragedy in her past led to the swearing off of romance and children, but if anyone were to tempt her, it would be Quincy. Now that he is a duke, it's even more imperative that they end their fake engagement soon, before her past comes to light.
I felt like crying so many times in this book, as my heart literally hurt for both Clara and Quincy. Poor Quincy - he was a joy in the first Isle of Synne book, and it was so horrible to hear his backstory and how life continued to thwart him even in adulthood. All he wanted was to be as close as possible to the one person who ever loved him, his father, and he couldn't due to duty to a family who never wanted him. It was heartwarming, therefore, to see how much Clara loved him. It started out with warm affection, but as their fake engagement persisted, they grew closer and closer. She had a deep longing to be loved and so did he, but neither were willing to voice it until they met each other. It was distressing to know Clara had a tragic past without know what it was for most of the book, and then when I found out, it made me want her to have a happy ending even more. They were a well suited pair and one I greatly wanted to find love in each other's arms.
As usual, I enjoyed this book by Christina Britton, and I look forward to many more to come!

I adore this cover. That seafoam green is one of my favorite colors!
This is book 2 in the series. You will be okay reading as a stand alone, but I do think you will get much more enjoyment out of it if you read book one. The hero and heroine from book 1 are in this book quite a bit and we also get to meet both Clara and Quincy in book 1.
Clara has spent her life taking care of her family. She assists with everything she can and when her sister is set to marry, she finds herself a bit lost and losing her purpose. Quincy returns to the Isle of Synne and she realizes her attraction for him from meeting him last year hasn’t diminished. And when she finds he needs help she jumps at the chance…
Give this book a try if you are in the mood for:
- Regency time period – this takes place in 1818
- Fake engagement – Clara poses as his fiance to help Quincy get out of an unwanted betrothel
- Experienced/ruined heroine
- Prodigal hero returns – Quincy left home at 14 and returns a number of years later (14/15 years later)
- A huge emotional pull – these characters both have a story that will grab your heart. A history, pain, but come out stronger in the end and are perfect for each other.
I really think so many will adore this book. I gave 3 stars for a number of reasons that are purely personal pickiness and I highly encourage you all to try it for yourselves as you will likely love it.
I will admit I was frustrated with how little the characters were together in the beginning of the book. It felt like ages before they even talked (and this was due to telling their individual stories. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just not what I personally prefer in romance). It was about 20% in and they had only had what felt like 2 very short conversations.
There isn’t really a villain, but the hero’s mother is extremely cruel. I think probably because I am just coming off a book with an extremely cruel mother (The Earl Next Door by Charis Michaels), I wasn’t too into this plot device. It’s also because I had a horrible MIL that was so toxic we don’t talk to her at all any more. I lived it so I don’t prefer to read it except once in a great while.
I just didn’t have a lot of feels or tension from this book. It was a pleasant read, though it won’t stick with me emotionally. Which really makes me feel like a heartless wretch because this book does have emotional pull. I just wasn’t attached to the characters enough to really feel it.
