Rory Maxwell discovered romance novels on her mom’s bookshelf when she was probably too young to be reading them—the reward for being a nosy kid with great reading comprehension. The magic of a dial-up internet connection led her to the wonderful world of MM fanfiction a few years later and she fell in love with the genre. In 2019 she woke up with a plot bunny, opened a word doc, and started trying to figure out how this writing stuff worked.

Rory grew up outside of Washington, DC, moved away, and then came back for reasons she doesn’t fully understand. An artist and writer, she always has too many exciting ideas and not nearly enough free time. One day, she hopes to escape to the mountains where she can work from home and write as much as she wants. In the meantime, she splits her time between her day job and writing MM romance with heart, heat, and happy endings.

You have Micah, who knows from the day he sets eyes on the new ranch hand. Ryan, he is his person. the age gap is enough that the time jumps are necessary to get the characters to the right place in their lives for something to be able to happen. both characters show a maturity in understanding the situation, and when able to get there, it's a beautiful thing to see play out. A well-written and played out story to hold your attention from the getgo. Will read more from this universe in the future.

    I see other reviews used the word “sweet” to describe this book as well. It’s just the word that springs to mind, I think. It’s very cute, and an easy read. It read a little more like a novella to me with the story pacing. I did enjoy this story, but I’m also here to say, if you liked this but aren’t sure if you liked it enough to try another one, please give the second one a chance because it is much more developed. This just builds a nice little foundation for their relationship, and it made me smile a lot.

    This was the second book that I read by this author. The first book, (Novella) called 'Something Unbelievable' is nowhere to be reviewed. It's actually an introduction to Split Rock. It's about Jamie and Chris.
    This book is about Ryan and Micah and their journey to happiness. Ita slow burn that leads to their eventual HEA. It was witty, steamy and loving. The side characters are definitely important cause they are the main characters in future books. I love reading series like this.

    I loved falling in love with Micah and Ryan along their way to each other, loved the setting, loved the surrounding characters, looooooved the loveliness and the gentle pining and loved loved loved the ending.

    I really enjoyed this debut novella, it did an excellent job of hooking the reader on the Split Rock Ranch world. I've been meaning to read this series since I read Something Unintended a couple years and recently just decided to bite the bullet and I'm glad that I have.

    I loved the writing, but feel it missed the mark as a novella. The story felt rushed and a little incomplete with a great deal of telling rather than showing. As it was, with the multiple time jumps it felt like pivotal scenes from an outline, without the meat connecting them. Ryan felt rather underdeveloped, his background is quite vague and I really struggled with understanding Micah's thought processes and choices as a character.

    I really love watching the couple fall in love and that was largely missing from this story. With an age gap and time/space gap I especially want to feel the love, not just be told that it's there. I want to see the characters get to know one another and for the couple to build a rapport based on more than mutual attraction.

    I was really pulling for these two to get together; they shared a great first kiss, and some light pining as they wait for their time to shine. Their reunion was a bit of a let down if I'm honest, and the author tried to do too much with the secondary characters and with introducing a little drama towards the end without the page count to satisfactorily deal with it. Still I enjoyed the story and can't wait to dive into the next book.

    The secondary cast was great, especially Maggie, who was such a wonderful matriarch, and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone better and seeing them all get their respective HEAs.

    I really liked this, it was a sweet and pretty low angst age gap love story with cowboys, who doesn’t love cowboys? I guess I can’t give it higher because it was so short and I wish we had seen more actual interaction between Ryan and Micah - the time jump to the end had me feeling a bit cheated.
