4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 57 ratings

Jeni and Karin are part of the up and coming young band, Five Point.
The downside of this rising fame is the interest of the tabloid papers and web sites. The paparazzi are after them and the girls need a holiday.
Elodie, their manager, suggests a break in a place where nobody takes pictures. L'Abeille Nue. The resort run by her cousin and her husband, Bea and Rags - the Uncovered Policeman.
Just one minor point Elodie omits to tell the girls ... L'Abeille Nue is a naturist resort.

This story the eighth in the Rags to Riches series is a romantic comedy, naturist fiction and does not contain any explicit sex scenes or references.

I was born in London, lived most of my life in the south of England. I only say that to excuse writing with a Sarff Lundin accint.

After a lifetime of not knowing what to do, RAF Officer, TV delivery driver, medical rep, trainer, computer guy … I'd even spent three summers running a naturist resort in Portugal. I decided to try something new and retired.

Lying by the pool in the South of France, a story started to take shape in my mind. Then the days got shorter, and the evenings longer, and I started to type. The string of random words turned into “The Uncovered Policeman.” Writing this story, I met the central characters, Bea being the most important. She nagged me into telling what turned into a series of 12 light, cosy romances with a cast of pleasant happy people, with quirky characters.

The New House trilogy, about a couple's first year of retirement in France, followed. “Almost a Year in Occitanie” - No, it is not autobiographical. OK, not very autobiographical.

More recently, Crooke and Loch launch their careers, solving mysteries and crimes in “The Summer of '71” and in a series of follow-up stories spanning the 1970s.

2020 marked the debut of another character … Melody. A lady of a certain age, a generous size and blinding intelligence, who first appears in "Problems and Passions."

The darkness of the great lockdown inspired some darker tales, for example "After The Event." As well as a few more escapist ones, such as "When The Music Stops" featuring the delightful Juliet Evans the singing solicitor

Ted Bun keeps surprising us with new, fun plots that weave in and out of the “family” history. It’s an enjoyable challenge keeping everyone straight as well as thinking ahead to think of what might be coming up next. If one thinks these stories are all the same, one would be so wrong. I’m looking forward to find out what is coming next.

The saga continues, this time centered on a couple of musical twins. I found fewer proofreading nits to pick, so I gave it all five stars.

Love this series. Mr Bun is telling a story about people, not plot.
With every story, Rags & Bea's circle of family and friends gets larger and happier.

In this story Bea's cousin, Elodie, brings 2 of her clients to L'Abeille Nue to get away from the stress of being on the road and the constant attention of the paparazzi. In the private relaxing atmosphere, the young ladies unwind, allow hidden talents to shine, and become part of the L'Abeille Nue extended family.

Ted Bun is a prolific author of short novels set in naturist surroundings, and this is one of his latest offerings. Two young female members of an up and coming pop group, looking for a safe place to holiday away from the cameras and prying eyes of the press, are taken by their manager to a naturist resort. Having just come from reading some very dark novels, I found this book to be a refreshing dose of pure optimism.
What attracted me in this story was the psychological aspect. The two ladies who run the resort are also amateur psychological counsellors. Visitors come, divest themselves of their clothes and then their problems. When they leave, they put their clothes back on but their problems have disappeared. In the three or four cases we see in the novel, the combined therapy of overcoming the emotional challenge of being naked in front of others and the cognitive behavioural therapy suggested is infallible.
There is an evangelical tone to the book. Old ‘believers’ bring newcomers, we see the ritual aspect of getting unclothed for the first time – a kind of baptism- , past sins are forgiven and personal troubles are made to disappear. For non-naturists like me, it is a valuable insight into why this way of life might be popular.
Naturist fiction is a very niche genre, but there are aspects to this novel with wider appeal. I have already mentioned the psychological aspect, but lovers of the pop music scene will also find much to interest them. And it is true ‘feel-good’ story, so if you need something to cheer you up on a bad day, this could be it.

Ted has done it again. A book that extols the virtues of naturism that isn't salacious nor a schoolboy sniggering. A great holiday read.
