- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2019Format: KindleMy Thoughts on Starla’s Christmas Conundrum:
Such a quick sweet read. Nothing stands out as scary or startling. Really I could tell you how the book was going to end by chapter two but I liked the characters so much that I just kept reading.
Starla is sweet but a bit lost music artist who sure on the path of her life anymore. She just needs a break but no one will listen to her. Maybe it’s time to take some drastic measures.
Mason is another music artist on a mini-vacation around Christmas. He just wants to get away from it all every once in a while and has found the perfect spot. What happens if maybe he’s found the perfect girl in his perfect spot?
Can life actually be perfect? Of course not! Enter a few bad guys and some fun will find you. There is a bit of drama and a small bit of mystery but nothing big.
I enjoyed the book. It’s not one that I’m going to read again though. Nothing huge or noteworthy that’s going to make it stand out in my collection but nothing that marks it as a bad read either. I’d recommend it if you’re wanting a cute feel-good romance. This is the type of book I read when I’ve become overwhelmed with my life and just need a bit of a break. A story to hide in that isn’t going to tax my brain anymore by making me work to figure out the mystery or sit in suspense wondering who’s gonna die!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2019Format: KindleWhat a nice refreshing story that brings Christmas in July for me. I was so comfortable reading this enchanting story, that I completely lost track of time. I have always wondered what it would be like to be famous. Of course you have fame and money, but there is always another side that we don't hear much about. I remember one particular Christian artist that fell hard and hit rock bottom. The media was all over it and pretty much crucified him in the news.
This story was nice to read because Starla could sense that something was off with her. She was on top of the charts, concerts just about every night, but she couldn't feel God anywhere. I loved how the author showed us a side of Christian music where we hardly get a glimpse of. Starla recognizes that it it time to take a break and spend some time alone with God. The message is clear that sometimes we forget to invite God into our lives. Her need to refuel and seek God for direction was amazing to read. I loved all the scriptures and her heart to heart talks with God.
Mason was going through similar struggles as Starla and I enjoyed how God brought them together. Mason was a great character and I liked his openness to Starla. His life wasn't always easy but as he shared his story, Starla could see how much God had changed him. It's a great story with a little twist that took me by surprise. We always need to be on guard as the enemy will use anyone to cause us to stumble. The enemy loves to control us so he can cause havoc in our lives.
I enjoyed the characters and how much I got from the story. Be prayfull about all things, trust God and listen to your heart. He does have a plan for each of us . We need to be able to have open ears and trust him. Enjoy this story of two people seeking God and finding happiness.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2019Format: KindleThis book follows the life of Starla, a Christian music sensation. Being overworked and at her wits end, Starla decides to take a break. To the dismay of her manager, she meets a wonderful man and they quickly hit it off.
I have to be honest. I was not very impressed by this book. It was hard to follow and the writing left a lot to be desired. The relationship progression was startlingly fast. I worry about the false hope this could give young people who may read this.
The text was written in third person omniscient. Yet, that wasn't clear until near the end. There were times where, as readers, we were in Starla's mind and then we would jump to the managers mind. There was no distinct marker to help us know that there was a jump between characters. I feel that the author spent more time describing the characters clothes and food then developing the plot.
I did like the overall concept. I think that the setting was very cute and I was able to envision it due to great descriptions. I also liked that Starla kept her eyes trained on God. This will encourage young readers to do the same.
Final Thoughts- I give this a 2 out of 5 stars. I think there was a great concept that was poorly executed.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2019Format: KindleLiving in Texas during the summer means dealing with hot weather! So reading a Christmas book that includes mentions of snow and Gatlinburg, Tennessee provides the perfect escape. For two years, I attended college at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. One of our favorite day trips was to Gatlinburg. So I loved the primary setting of this story.
Starla, a Christian singer superstar, feels the need to escape from the stress of performing and more. However, her manager (caring on the surface) wants Starla to keep performing and more. From the beginning, I knew I did not like the manager.
However, when Starla meets the star of a Christian Rock Band, the two instantly connect. The scenery in the story is described in breathtaking detail. Having been to Gatlinburg myself, I felt like I was back there through the pages of this book.
The characters are well-developed as is the storyline. This book is the perfect summertime read to escape the heat or the perfect book to read during the Christmas holiday season. So check it out for yourself.
I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.
