Something Just Like This: A Stay Novella Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 850 ratings

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Probst comes a new story in her Stay series.

Jonathan Lake is the beloved NYC mayor who’s making a run for governor. His widowed status and close relationship with his daughter casts him as the darling of the press, and the candidate to beat, but behind the flash of the cameras, things are spinning out of control. It all has to do with his strait laced, ruthlessly organized assistant. Her skills and reserved demeanor are perfect to run his campaign, but her brilliant brain has become a temptation he’s been fighting for too long. Can he convince her to take a chance on a long-term campaign for love or will his efforts end up in scandal?

Alyssa Block has admired the NYC mayor for a long time, but her secret crush is kept ruthlessly buried under a mountain of work. Besides, she’s not his type, and office scandals are not in her job description. But when they retreat to an upstate horse farm for a secluded weekend, the spark between them catches flame, and Jonathan sets those stinging blue eyes on winning her. Can she convince him to focus on the upcoming election, or will she succumb to the sweet promise of a different future?

**For fans of Jennifer Probst’s Stay series, Something Just Like This is book four in that series.**

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

I absolutely loved Something Just Like This by Jennifer Probst, a novella in her Stay series, it is an incredible love story. I loved the book that I am looking forward to reading the final novella in the Stay series. I have read other books by Jennifer Probst and really enjoy her wonderfully written stories. Jennifer Probst has once again shown that she is an amazing storyteller. I could not put it down. I loved every page. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Something Just Like This is wonderful love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud and the bittersweet moments that cause me to sigh, say aww to myself with tears filling my eyes. Something Just Like This is filled with such moments, and with so much emotion. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Something Just Like This is the story of Jonathan Lake, mayor of New York City, and Chole’s father, and his assistant, Alyssa Block. Jonathan has decided to run for the governor of New York. Jonathan has been fighting his feelings for Alyssa for a while. He finally admits to his feelings for her and they share a romantic kiss. Jonathan tells Alyssa that he will do whatever she wants regarding a potential relationship. Alyssa has worked hard to get when she is and is concerned about how it will appear to everyone is she starts dating Jonathan, especially with him running for governor. Things start to change between them, but Alyssa is still apprehensive, especially after a conversation in the ladies’ room has her questioning Jonathan’s feelings for her. They decide to head to Gardiner, NY in the Hudson Valley to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Bishops. Their relationship changes again while spending time away from New York City. Then a surprise plot twist has them announcing their relationship before either one of them really wanted to. My favorite part of Something Just Like This are all the quirky facts that Alyssa discloses throughout the story. They were my favorite lighter parts of the story. I love how Alyssa changes during the story into someone stronger than she thought she was. I love all the descriptions of New York City and the Hudson Valley setting that Jennifer Probst details, it makes me want to visit. My favorite part of the book is the epilogue and how it takes place one year later, I truly love how it goes above and beyond the happily ever after. Something Just Like This is filled with the poignant and bittersweet moments in the story as well as the plot twists, that I have come to love and expect in Jennifer Probst's stories. I love the cast of characters in Something Just Like This it felt like a family reunion catching up with the all the Bishops. Who doesn’t love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I thoroughly enjoyed Something Just Like This, I highly recommend this wonderful romance.

Now that Ethan, Harper, and Ophelia have found their happy ever afters, we come back to Jonathan Lake, Mayor of NYC - for whom Mia does PR. He's been a widower for 5 years, with a daughter (Chloe) who must be 20 or 21 by now. Alyssa is his personal assistant of two years, and while they are as different as night and day in their personalities, he's starting to think of her in a different way. But due to his position as mayor and also his upcoming run for Governor, he needs to take a careful approach - he doesn't want to scare away the best assistant he's ever had.

Alyssa has been crushing on Jonathan for a while, but she always maintains her professionalism at work or while out in public. Now that he's offered up the potential future relationship, she has to decide if it's worth the risk - not just to her private life, as she's never been fond of the spotlight, but also his career in politics.

I enjoyed this easy to read short story.

Jonathan and Alyssa’s feelings stemmed from friendship, trust and realizing that they couldn’t live without each other. They finish each other’s sentences and she organizes his world while Jonathan yearns to be part of hers. He desperately wanted to know more about her. Alyssa seems calm and rarely gets flustered except when she is with Jonathan late at night, going over his schedule. Jonathan loves the way she smells and when he closes his eyes, he envisions them together. Jonathan was finding it hard to control his emotions around her and he didn’t know if Alyssa felt the same way about him. But she did, and they were both afraid of crossing the line from business into pleasure. Jonathan didn’t want to scare Alyssa with his declaration of love, and push her away. Alyssa would never jeopardize her job or Jonathan’s career and she was afraid if she did, she would have to quit.

Jonathan and Alyssa were a team in politics, life and in love. He was mesmerized by Alyssa’s beauty and her mind. Nothing or no one could possibly stop their love from blossoming and becoming real. I smiled throughout the entire book as their passionate feelings grew stronger and stronger, as if they were adrift in a magical world of love. I could only sigh when they finally professed their love for one another. Everything about their story was utterly romantic, enchanting and hopeful. Jonathan never thought he would find true love again, and Alyssa made him happy, challenged him and was his perfect match. Alyssa was always afraid to admit her feelings but once she did, she realized that Jonathan was her soulmate and held the key to her heart.

Jennifer Probst never fails to pour all the feels into a story - full length novel or novella. "Something Just Like This" is a nice little page turner with a bit of a holiday twist. Not many stories throw Thanksgiving into the plot ... this one did. If you like a little angst, drama, sigh worthy moments ... Jonathan and Alyssa's story is one to pick up!
