Stroke of Luck (Sterling's Montana Book 1) Kindle Edition
The Sterling Ranch’s season opening isn’t going so smoothly. With the ranch’s lodge full of guests and a Montana blizzard threatening, Will Sterling needs help—and he needs it fast. So when his childhood friend Poppy Carmichael agrees to lend a hand, he’s grateful for a second chance…and more enticed by the woman she’s become than he cares to admit.
For Poppy, it was supposed to be a retreat full of horse rides and hoedowns—with a side of showing Will what he’s been missing all these years. But as the snow deepens outside, the guests’ suspicion and mistrust turn sinister inside, catching Will and Poppy in the crosshairs.
Weathering the storm in each other’s arms is all too easy for Will and Poppy, but will a confrontation with a killer mean their reunion is short-lived?
New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author B.J. Daniels starts her Sterling’s Ranch series off with a bang in this suspenseful story of romance and revenge.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2019At the age of twelve, Poppy Carmichael had a huge crush on Will Sterling. He did not return the feeling and it ended badly by Will acting like an immature jerk. It has been almost two decades. Poppy has moved back into town and opened a catering business. When Will calls and asks her to come to the ranch and cook for his early season guests, she accepts. Not only would the pay be great, but she would have four days to show Will what he missed out on. Revenge is definitely on her mind.
Will feels bad about how things ended between them. He admits Poppy is proving to be one heck of a cook. Her meals are delicious! But he wonders if she is really there to simply cook four days or if she is plotting some retaliation.
Will did not want to open the lodge early, but Big Jack had been a good friend of his father’s. Big Jack brings several of his employees along with him. He plans on giving a big announcement at the end of the retreat. A huge snowstorm moves in suddenly, stranding all the guests on day two of four. Immediately following, Big Jack is murdered. Until the roads clear and the sheriff can arrive, everyone is trapped wondering which of them is a murderer. Then the murderer strikes again.
***** FIVE STARS! A wonderful who-dunnit with a side of romance. What more could anyone ask? How about suspense, drama, and action? This story has it all and then some. I enjoyed trying to figure out what was really going on and who the murderer was before the author revealed it. The main characters have well developed backgrounds. The secondary ones are vague but begin to fill out as the story progresses. A delightful ride on the romance and mystery side. I loved every minute of this story and am happy to be able to highly recommend it. *****

- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2019B. J. Daniels had me fully immersed in a wonderful story with countless, unpredictable twists and turns. I thought I knew the murderer, then I thought I knew the two murderers. In both instances I was SO wrong. A thread running throughout the story was planned retreat in a be so dutiful outdoor setting. A pleasant, bonding experience, right? No, wrong again! Quickly the reader learns that this is a terribly dysfunction group of people. Big Jack Hanson arranged the retreat but no one knows why until the end. No one likes anyone one else. Lamar and Mick Hanson are brothers who are not equally involved in the company. People with murderous intent are included among the following people: Allison Landon, Channing Palmer, Lexington Raiser, Ruby Alder, and Dean Donovan; all employees. One or more these employees is a murderer! The plot is / amazing because centered around this head scratching mystery is a love story that is heartwarming. Two young people, Will Sterling and Poppy Carmichael grew up together. A 12-year_old Poppy had a crush on 15_year-old Will Sterling. Will embarrasses her. His behavior, when he last saw her 'crushed' her. He liked her but was embarrassed to be liked by a younger girl. Now a grown up, beautiful and talented Poppy has come back home to set up a catering business. Will calls Poppy because he desperately needs her cooking skills. His cook, Buckshot Brewster, has been hospitalized just before a group is about to arrive. He is thrilled but dubious when she quickly agrees. Dorothy, his more than suspicious that she intends revenge on him. I will not give away the ending. Trying to figure out the twists and turns of this story is well with it!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2019This is the first book in a new series by B J Daniels. I couldn’t put it down. Love the lead characters of Will and Poppy and the story of the guest ranch. Lots of intrigue and suspense with a few twists. This is my favorite book to date by B J Daniels. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. This book had me from the first page.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2019Will didn’t usually open the guest ranch this early in the year but the request was coming from an old friend of his Father’s Weather in Montana this early in the year was unpredictable at best. His usual cook had broken his leg so Will hired a girl from his past to do the cooking. She had plans for Will and all the guests didn’t act like they liked each other nor did they want to be there. It wasn’t long before murder, arson and mayhem broke loose. Once again B. j. Daniels grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until the very end

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Start To An Exciting Series! P.S. I Loved Will!
This is the first book I have read of B.J.Daniels and didn’t know what to expect, I admit I fell in love with cover and the blurb. So I was expecting a cowboy romance, but this was so much more. We have Poppy who has come back to Whitefish Montana to start her catering business.
Will runs the Guest Ranch Retreat, and its his first year and they have opened early for a special client. A four day work retreat, what could go wrong. The cook has broken his leg, and Will’s brother Garrett recommends Poppy Carmichael. Poppy and Will know each other from when they kids and hadn’t parted well.
So we have employees who don’t won’t to be there, Poppy is determined to get back at Will. Then there Dorothea who has lived on the Sterling Ranch as a housekeeper walking around saying there is something bad going to happen.
That’s just the beginning, and this book kept me gripped until the end I did not want to miss anything. It was well worth the read and I want to go back to Sterling Ranch for another adventure. This had it all, a handsome cowboy, love, murder and mayhem and right up my street. It is told in multiple povs so you get a real feel for whats going on. I’m hooked on B.J.Daniels, so go and read it yourself.
