Suddenly, Last Summer Kindle Edition
I professed my love for Jordy when I was seventeen. He was leaving for his last year of medical school after working another summer at my family’s Banks Lake resort in the Pacific Northwest.
Desperate for him to know how I felt even though he was my older brother’s best friend, and fearing that he wouldn’t return after that summer, I decided to take the plunge and admit my feelings while I had the chance.
As the adult in the situation, Jordy wisely chose to discount my confession as simply a teenage crush. But my last spoken words to him were that I’d wait patiently for him.
And I always kept my promises.
JORDY HALL
I’d been away from my small hometown for nearly five years. Life and a stressful medical residency had kept me busy, but I finally returned to fulfill my best-man duties for my best friend’s upcoming wedding.
His younger brother, Trey, was a sweet, sensitive kid when I left years ago. The shy, lean teenager who’d tearfully professed his love for me my last summer there had grown into a sexy, confident man. I was intrigued by what I saw, though I probably should have walked away again.
Had he actually waited for me to return? Did I hope he had? He was nine years my junior and my best friend’s little brother. But he could be so much more.
After five long years, it was suddenly last summer.

So author Michael Robert has hit the mark again with his newest release Suddenly, Last Summer... it's amazing and I loved it!! As always the story is unique, the characters are wonderful, there's some amazing family and found family, and of course the one who everyone will love to hate. Plus some edge of your seat fingernail biting wanting the mc's to get their happily ever after!!
Trey's love for Jordy had me in tears. Sorrowful ones for when Jordy left for medical school and the various times throughout the story that he was hurting for his man. And joyful ones for those times you could feel his happiness bursting through his soul. Trey was definitely wise beyond his years when it came to life and love. I loved that he wasn't willing to accept less than what he deserved no matter how much he loved Jordy.
Jordy was smart, kind and generous but due to losing his parents earlier in life he was scared of losing his found family if he pursued a relationship with their son...he desperately needed that love, acceptance, and belonging the family gave him.. Plus I think he was scared to trust in his own decisions. Once he got over the age gap and truly believed in the love they shared it was just beautiful!! And they were on fire for each other!!🔥🔥🔥
I've gotta mention a few awessome side characters now. Firstly, I fell in love with Trey's parents right away especially his Dad was one of a kind. Next we have Trey's bestie Skippy...he was hilarious and had me in stitches but he also broke my heart (you'll see why when you read it). Then, Uncle Jack...loved his grumpy, straight shooting ways!! We won't mention Trey's brother and wife to be Cherie and their drama causing selves!!
Anyways, in case you couldn't tell I highly recommend this book and this author!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2023Great book to read with an awesome storyline. The sex scenes were a little unbearable and were not realistic in real life. Skippy was my favorite character and seemed like he definitely didn’t have his act together. I was kind of hoping Trey and Skippy would end up together. All in all it was a great book to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2023This one was a little hard for me to read, because my heart was breaking for Trey. For Jordy too, really. So many feelings, so intense. Derek and Brock are snakes. Trey and Jordy proved to be a formidable team, though.
The ARC copy I read was a bit rough, like maybe it wasn't the final version. Still, the intensity of the emotions the guys were feeling made up for it.

5 years is a long time to wait for someone, someone you love, someone you’ve put your love life on hold for. Someone you poured your heart too at 17 and never heard from again until 5 years after they walked away.
Trey promised Jordy that day on the dock that he’d be there, that he’d wait for him, that he loved him. While Jordy was off doing his residency as a big time ortho surgeon, not even giving Trey’s confession of love a second thought as Trey was only 17 and Jordy was 24.
With Trey’s older brother and Jordy’s best friend Brock getting married these two will see each other for the first time in 5 years. Jordy is needing a break and his superiors have given him the option to take the summer off and come back fresh. He’d been feeling the burnout, but also with his most recent failed relationship being with a fellow Dr. A break is just what he needs. Trey is still in their hometown, still helping to run their family camp grounds, but Trey is no longer that scrawny 17 year old he has grown into a strong, smart, openly gay man. One who’s kept his promise to wait for the man he’s loved since he was 15. The man who’s coming back not just for a weekend wedding but the entire summer.
Will Trey get his second chance with the man of his dreams? Will Jordy choose his career or will he chose love? The summer is short but the stakes are high for both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Love Story
This is a slow burn, low angst story with lots of emotion and heat but essentially a love story. Trey and Jordy’s love story. It was written in dual POV which I enjoy and I liked the flashbacks which gave us more of an insight into the development of the characters.
There is a strong family connection and I particularly fell in love with Trey. He is a very special character with a beautiful innocence but his maturity when it came to love and romance was unique. The story mainly focused on the developing relationship between Trey and Jordy but running alongside it was also the relationship between Trey and his best friend Skippy. I adored Skippy, his naivety, his love and total dependence on his best friend and the way Trey would do anything to protect him. I wanted to wrap him up in a warm hug.
Jordy had issues of insecurity and struggled with relationships always picking the wrong type. He lost his parents at seventeen and had a toxic best friend which probably had something to do with it. Brock and Trey’s parents are lovely. They take him in and love him like another son. He has been best friends with Brock for years and always had a connection with the much younger Trey. The day Jordy leaves for Med school Trey tells him he loves him and will always love him. Jordy leaves without responding.
Five years on Jordy was jaded and not sure if he wanted to progress with his medical fellowship so his boss gives him the summer off to recharge his batteries and decide on his future. Brock is getting married in a few weeks and so for the first time in five years he goes home.
As Trey promised he was waiting. His love for Jordy is real and beautiful in its purity. As Trey realises that Jordy does loves him you can see the change in him as he becomes the man Jordy can depend on and the man he always aspired to be, and it was quite a twist seeing the younger man become the dominant partner.
This is Michael at his best, telling a story with strong characters and strong emotional family ties and also throwing in a character we all love to hate.
I received an ARC in return for an honest opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it❤️
This book was just lovely.♥️ Low angst, high steam, lots of sweet pining, and beautiful emotionally charged moments between loving family members. ♥️
Jordy and Trey will steal your heart in an instant - their love is so pure, so gentle and beautiful, it stands the test of time and tramples any obstacles that stand in the way of their well deserved HEA.♥️
Michael Robert always has a message to the reader he gently delivers through his excellent storytelling. In this book, I believe it is all about self-love, acceptance , and gaining emotional maturity through the nurture of loving relationships. We indeed make our own path, setting our own standards when it comes to romantic relationships. Seeing Jordy struggle with reconciling his needs with what has been deeply ingrained in him as a much lower bar of commitment by his previous partners and his supposed best friend was absolutely heartbreaking.♥️
In his misguided attempt to placate and appease everyone, he almost loses Trey. It was absolutely delightful to watch Trey simply flourish when he knows Jordy feels the same way about him. He naturally takes charge, and page after page becomes the man he aspires to be for Jordy. When push comes to shove, he stands his ground and shows Jordy exactly what he's in for should he be brave and fight for their relationship. ♥️
Trey, as the young, naturally dominant, physically bigger partner, was bananas hot ❤️🥵 Oh my god, every time he directed Jordy and instructed/praised him, you bet your sweet ass I was mouthing, Yes Daddy🤤 Hot AF❤️
These two had incredible chemistry, and yeah, that was so sensual. It bled through the pages. But what really got me to loving these characters the most was the effortless emotional intimacy they shared - loving touch and profound understanding of their ethical and moral backbone, shared values.❤️
Loved it❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars Just loved this!
Wow! Michael Robert has done it again! I can’t tell you how much I loved this book. The story is beautifully written and leaves the reader wanting more. This has become a signature theme for all of Robert’s books (you never want them to end). Suddenly, Last Summer is a MM romance between Jordy Hall, a Doctor finishing his residency; and Trey Barnes, who is the younger brother of Jordy’s best friend. After years of pining over Jordy, Trey finally gets his second chance to show Jordy just how much he means to him when Jordy decides to spend the summer, working at his parents resort.
One of the author’s signature moves is creating such colorful and interesting characters. One such character was Trey, who was so sweet and loveable, you couldn’t help but instantly fall in love with the guy. Then there was Trey’s snarky and sarcastic uncle, you could never get enough of this man. Even Trey’s best friend, Skippy was so much fun. He brought such humour and life to the story that you couldn’t help but want to be instant friends with the guy.
Robert’s has a way of crafting such a heartfelt story, while keeping readers on the edge of their seat wondering what will happen next. I devoured this book in two days, and can’t wait for Robert’s next book.
Highly recommend this book for those who love MM romance, friends to lovers, second chances, and an all around sweet story.

I adored this book. Trey and Jordy's relationship is beautiful. I loved the small town setting and the side characters were amazing. This is my first time reading this author and I will be reading more.
