In the footsteps of Hemingway and London, Andy R. Bunch is an adventure writer. He has built a church in Mexico, sung for his supper in Canada, taught Archery in Alaska and studied British history in Great Britain. He’s trained in martial arts and once spent a week in the woods with only a knife, flint, and black-plastic.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2014Fantasy readers will enjoy this adventurous tale. The well-developed, unique characters are easy to root for in their epic battle against Rancor and his minions. Bunch is a talented creator of worlds and his control and imagery of battle scenes is sure to impress. Well done. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2012Suffering Rancor is an exciting book. For years magic was not allowed and only legend of the great Evil One lived on until one day some pirates let him free. Now the world is in danger and only a few can save the world. The only problem is they don't know it yet. The Princess just wants an adventure and talks her father, the King into letting her become an ambassador with her fiancee. She has learned that life outside the palace is a dangerous place and there is a traitor in the midst of her company.
The other hero is learning what it takes to be a warrior and a leader. He never asked for that position. The swamp gave him lots of challenges especially when they met up with the Pirates. He will avenge his friends deaths and seek a new life outside the swamp. However, he had magic, not a lot, but enough to save his life.
I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait for the next book to come out. It is a wonderful read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2012Although the book took a few chapters to get into, I became hooked. The battle descriptions were especially vivid, and now I am waiting for the next book in the series. A good first effort!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2012This is the kind of fantasy I grew up reading and loving! Forget about the wimpy, flower-power fantasy of the 60s and 70s. Andy Bunch channels the greats like, Robert E. Howard and gives the reader a straight forward, butt-kicking, rollicking adventure!
The world created in Suffering Rancor is very original and believable. The fight scenes play out in your head like an action movie. And you get the added bonus of interior art, something you rarely see in books these days. Talk about bang for your buck.
If you want a fun, fast-paced read, I highly recommend picking up Suffering Rancor.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2012This novel is a cross between Conan and Tarzan. The young protagonist is tested at every turn but always manages to win the day through a combination of brawn, the brains to understand opportunity when it presents itself, and a sense of responsibility that won't allow him to say, "I quit." Although the novel had some spelling errors, which was the reason I didn't give it 5 stars, I think the story and the character building were worthy of 5. If you like plenty of testosterone in your male characters you'll like Suffering Rancor.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2012Don't be mislead by the cover, this book is serious fantasy. Considering this book has been out a few years and hasn't had more positive comments really surprises me. I grew up wanting action fantasy from beginning to end. Looks like my long unanswered prayers were answered. Creative world with created creatures breaks open the mold of what you'd expect. I found this hard to put down. Only one question. Where's the next book?
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2009Bunch writes with the authority of an avid fantasy fan. He creates a believable world with believable characters. At first I was only interested in the story of Princess Ambria but a quarter of the way into the book Greymar and his friends became visible in my mind. Many of the fight sequences are detailed out with the accuracy of someone who knows fighting. I am a fan of writers like Ursula LeGuin and J.K Rowlings so this book was a bit a of a leap in terms of goryness but I loved it. I really did stay up late to read it. This would be perfect for anyone who likes fantasy. There are lots of spelling and grammar errors but all I can say to that is . Mr. Bunch if you need a copy editor I would be glad to pre-read your next book.
p.s. great ending on this book as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2009Even though this is not my usual genre of book, I found that I had a hard time putting it down. Many times when I thought I would take a break at the end of the chapter, I had to continue to see what would happen next. I thought the characters were well defined and the action well done. I found a few spelling mistakes that bothered me some but chalked it up to a first time writer. All in all, I am anxious for the next book to be published so I can see what happens to Grey.
