Summer in Bellbird Bay: A sweet, later-in-life romance. Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 667 ratings

Can Bellbird Bay provide solace to these two broken souls?

When Ailsa McNeil’s marriage falls apart, an invitation to spend the summer with an old friend in Bellbird Bay offers her the opportunity to escape and regroup. What she doesn’t expect is to meet her friend’s twin brother, the first man to stir her emotions when she was an impressionable nineteen-year-old.

As a young man, Martin Cooper couldn’t wait to leave Bellbird Bay. He has spent the past thirty years travelling the world and has accomplished his dream of becoming a celebrated travel photographer. But it has come at a price and, when his career and personal life take a downward turn, he returns to his hometown to consider his future.

When an accident thrusts the two together, their earlier attraction resurfaces. Torn between the desire to protect herself from further hurt and her renewed feelings for the man she’s never forgotten, can Ailsa find happiness again or is it too late?

A heartwarming tale of family, friends, and how a second chance at love can happen when you least expect it.④

Maggie Christensen writes about mature heroines coming to terms with changes in their lives - women who have learned to live and love in later life and the heroes worthy of them, heartwarming stories of second chances. Readers often describe her books as feel-good reads with people you'd want as friends.

After a career in education, Maggie Christensen began writing contemporary women's fiction portraying mature women facing life-changing situations. Her travels inspire her writing, be it her frequent visits to family in Oregon, USA, her home on Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast.

From her native Glasgow, Scotland, Maggie was lured by the call 'Come and teach in the sun' to Australia, where she worked as a primary school teacher, university lecturer and in educational management. Now living with her husband of thirty years on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, she loves walking on the deserted beach in the early mornings and having coffee by the river on weekends. Her days are spent surrounded by books, either reading or writing them - her idea of heaven!

I was a great read but the ending was rushed compared to the length of the detail in the book. The first 3/4 of the book are quite detailed and the last 1/4 is rushed. Otherwise I would’ve given the book 5 stars

Maggie Christensen has found a wonderful niche for older readers. People who have lived through life's joys and heartaches and have kept on moving forward is motivational. You realize you aren't the only person to have conflicts, a broken heart, and tough decisions to make.

The Bellbird Bay was relaxing to read but very predictable from the beginning which is great for a cold winter's read with a warm cup of tea.

The characters and story were not as developed as the Granite Springs series and tended to make the story drag a bit. However, if there was anything to be changed it would be the constant referral to the make lead constantly dragging his hand through his hair.

Memories of youth, former attractions & experiences continue to resurface when Ailsa returns to Bellbird Bay to spend the summer with her best friend after shocking news from her husband.

Summer in Bellbird bay has one drawback - you'll find yourself wanting to move there immediately! In addition to the well drawn characters and intriguing story lines, the setting itself is richly described and incredibly appealing. I know I'd like to visit Bellbird Bay and it's friendly town and beautiful beaches! It was lovely to see some familiar faces pop up in Bellbird Bay that readers of Maggie Christensen's Granite Springs series will recognize. I'm looking forward to the next book in the Bellbird Bay series already.

I was so sad to leave Granite Springs but Bellbird Bay has been such a great welcome, I feel at home already. As in previous books Maggie Christensen has developed a solid storyline with a variety of interesting characters. The end is predictable but the journey is pure joy and, yet again, I struggle to decide whether to immerse myself in one sitting or ration myself to extend the pleasure of the read

This book is about how life can change in what seems like an instant.
How to deal with a situation that is no way expected. How does a family cope, with misunderstanding situations as a whole and individually and the importance of communication.
I like the fact it related to mature aged and younger people.
A book dealing with a possible real life changing situations.
    Kept me interested.

    Good book.
