Sweet Indulgence (Charleston Harbor Novels Book 1) Kindle Edition
Real Men Eat Cupcakes. Just ask Annie McPherson…
Annie McPherson has had it with all the blind dates her grandmother and auntie set her up with. Her focus is the Sweet Indulgence cupcake bakery now.
Women are the last thing on Jack’s mind. After a quick stop to the new and upcoming cupcake shop to pick up cupcakes for his niece’s birthday party, Jack meets reserved Annie.
While helping him with his order, Annie notices his warm smile, the way he laughs when he gets icing on his fingers and then licks them like a big kid, and the cheesy grin when he realizes he’s been caught, and for a fleeting moment wishes he’d been one of her blind dates.
Jack leaves with the cupcakes but Annie’s twinkling eyes make her hard to forget and for a brief moment he considers taking home something other than cupcakes. Annie watches him go but a little voice deep inside hopes he’ll return and this time for something other than cupcakes.
A note from the author:
If you enjoy reading light, sweet romance—think Hallmark, then you’ll enjoy the first installment of the Charleston Harbor Novels. Book 1 sets the series up by introducing you to the characters and locations. Follow along with books 2, 3, and 4 and watch as Annie and Jack create a life built on love and trust. And although each book can be read as a stand-alone, it’s much more fulfilling if you read the entire set.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"White (Sweet Magnolia, 2018, etc.) is a veteran author who has written several novels and series. Her professionalism shows in her polished structure and dialogue, which eschew the common mistakes of novices. The inviting book is a standard contemporary romance that's on the tame side, with only vague references to physical intimacy that go no further than explicitly described kisses." - Kirkus Reviews

- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is an awesome beginning for the Charleston Harbor novels. Sweet Indulgence is a great name for a cupcakery! All the characters sparkle. Auntie Patty and Grandma Lilly were wonderful. Annie and Jack have great chemistry. You have small town romance, a cute dog, a small boat and an island. This is a wonderful afternoon read. Now on to book 2!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI thought it was a clean sweet romance story. I enjoyed the auntie and the grandmother being a part of Mary and Annie's lives as well as Buffy Annie's pup. The only thing I didn't like was that the story didn't end there. I guess if you want the complete story, you need to get the next two books.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is my first time with this author, so I wasn't too sure what to expect. The story did keep my attention, but seemed a bit too coincidental at times for my tastes.
I liked the slow pacing on Jack and Annie's romance, but there were little details that were thrown into the story that didn't make any sense, as they weren't revisited. Seeing that the next book is a continuation of this one made this make sense, but I found it very annoying while I was reading!
Also, Annie was a bit to judgmental for my tastes. It didn't help that Jack kept popping up places too, as if he was trying too hard to get Annie to go out with him, or help her out in various ways. This really kept me from connecting to either of them.
For the price I purchased this at, it was a good read, but nothing extraordinary. I'm OCD enough to want to know what happens next, so I'll be reading the next book of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a very sweet story, no pun intended, since it is a about Annie, who owns a cupcakery. The characters, Annie's grandmother and aunt, are nosy and interfering, but add a delightful aspect to the story. This is an easy read, one to be enjoyed on a lazy afternoon.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI liked the premise of the book, but unfortunately found it a little boring and predictable. The way it was written reminded me of young adult based book. To me felt like it jumped from one scene to the other. Although I would like to know where book 2 is going to go, I’m debating on buying same. I did like that she did not force sex not every page, there was nothing more than kissing, which is okay, I also liked the happy ever after ending and how there were elderly people in the book treated with respect, but to me they were more background fillers when they could have been front runners and could have been more interesting.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSWEET INDULGENCE was a story I fell in love with from the first page and was instantly hooked. Annie McPherson’s Grandmother and Aunt are always trying to set her up on blind dates, while Annie is only interested in making her bakery, Sweet Indulgence, successful. Jack isn’t interested in women, he is only picking up cupcakes for his niece’s birthday until he sees Annie. I really enjoyed this delicious first book in the Charleston Harbor Series!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a strange little happy story, without drama or conflict. The premise of the book showed promise, but the characters just didn't DO anything. I disliked the main character, she was far too moralistic and wasn't developed enough as a character to identify with. I kept hoping that something interesting would happen to her, but she just plods through her days, meets a guy, and he proposes, they marry, the end. It reminded me of a 1950s mindset, and she seemed to just be passing time until she meets "the one" but she doesn't even seem particularly taken with him. The dialogue was awkward, almost too formal and didn't reveal anything about the characters feelings. The scenes just kind of flipped by, no real reason or connection between them. I admit, I skimmed the last 50 or so pages just to see if anything happens. I won't be reading any other books by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book was disappointing. I was really hoping for a fun read but instead had to push myself to finish it. Female protagonist was unlikable, there was no chemistry between the male and female protagonists at all. No reason they should have fallen in love. Stupid dialogue, with things that just didn't make sense...for instance, the main couple seemed to have been dating for a while but she didn't know his birthday was in October? That's one of the first things you learn about a new friend.
Bad writing, simplistic plot, unlikable female protagonist, wasted potential of what could've been a really fun book.
I got the series of three in a bundle but I don't know if I can stomach the remaining two books. Disappointed.
