The tropical storms that roll into The Low Country of South Carolina are fierce. High destructive winds pummel the coastlines and rivers along the Atlantic, blowing debris and wreaking havoc. Storm surges crash up the river, depositing all sorts of rubble along the river’s shores.

The morning after one such storm, Bo Dawson, a 20 year old born on the wrong side of the tracks, discovers that a body has washed up on the shore in front of his fishing shack. With the area suffering from the devastation of the tropical storm, Bo is forced to care for the unconscious stranger. The stranger who doesn’t remember who he is or where he’s from.

For five weeks these two navigate the turbulent surprises delivered by life and brewing storms. But what happens when Hayes starts to regain his memory? What happens when he doesn’t want to go back to his other life?

looking for a book boyfriend?
This is the second book I’ve read by Michael Robert and it fully convinced me to explore his backlist. More often than not, stories involving the über wealthy and folk from the other side of the tracks go way too far, lacking relatability. ‘Take me with you’ is a fine example of how well this trope can be done if the author imprints the characters with enough personality to come through as truly genuine. This book ticks quite a few boxes for me, more specifically, despicable villains capable of engaging the readers distaste, morally gray characters that keep the reader on the fence, and two flawed MCs that inspire aggravation and tenderness in equal measure. Especially Bo… Looking for a character to fall in love with? Boregard is it!

Bo Dawson has my heart. This is my second Michael Robert read and it was so perfect. Beautiful characters, just the right amount of angst, and a good story all in one.

    Take Me With You
    By Michael Robert
    5 ⭐'s, Highly Recommend

So I love it when this author writes about Beaufort, SC (and surrounding areas) ...maybe because I don't live that far away...maybe because I loved his Letters duet where he first wrote about this area. Regardless they make my heart happy.

I went in just knowing Hayes was going to be my favorite (and I did love him) but you know what... Bo wow he stole my heart. Oh my gosh he was the sweetest character and he had already gone through so much heartbreak at such a young age that you just wanted to wrap him up in all the love you could possibly give him.

Hayes was such a fun and loving character so I was definitely surprised by his change when he went back home after remembering who he was. I guess that goes to show how deeply ingrained your family and lifestyle can be even when it isn't something that's making you happy. Especially when you're trying so hard to please others and start losing yourself in the process. So glad that his mom intervened and that he and Bo were able to get their HEA!! They both deserved it so much.

I loved how the rush of the storm coming and all the emotions of the characters brewing kept me pulled into the story.

Michael Robert always has unique storylines and great characters that you'll fall in love with. Highly recommend this book and author...you can't go wrong!!

    Overall Rating: 3.5/5
    MM Contemporary Romance

Plot: The South Carolina Coast is beautiful, but that beauty comes at a cost. The weather can be unforgiving, and storms often blow in at a moment’s notice. Bo Dawson is used to the fickle nature of the place he calls home, and he knows that if the suits on TV are predicting bad weather, it’s best to be prepared. So it comes as a huge shock when he emerges from his storm shelter to find a body washed up on his lonely stretch of beach.

It comes as an even bigger shock when he sees that the body is still breathing. Then there’s the blood. A nasty head wound has left the survivor unconscious, and Bo has no choice but to bring him inside and hope he wakes up. He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t fantasized about this exact thing happening, but he never imagined the stranger would be so handsome. Or real.

The stranger does eventually wake up, and Bo expects to get some answers to his questions. Unfortunately, the man doesn’t remember anything about what happened, including his own name. As Bo and his charge work together to figure out his identity, the two grow ever closer, leaving them both to wonder if they would be happier not knowing at all. But they are fools to think that the past won’t catch up with them, and Bo is terrified that the man he’s coming to love might eventually leave him for the life he’s missing out on.

First Take: This is the first book I’ve read from Michael Robert, and I’m pleased to report that I liked it. I’m a sucker for a good amnesia story, and I was super curious to see how it played out. Bo and Hayes are complete opposites who, only when thrown together in an emergency, begin to discover the depths of their loneliness and how to combat it (together, obviously!!). It’s when the real world intrudes that they find themselves sorely tested, and it hurts a lot more than either of them expect when reality doesn’t live up to the fantasy.

Characters: Boregard Dawson is used to being alone. Everyone he’s ever loved has left him. All he has left is the family business, a small fishing operation that he runs out of a tiny shack on the South Carolina coast. It’s not much, but he’s proud of what he’s accomplished. Hayes Crawford isn’t alone, but he might as well be. Born into immense wealth and privilege, he has no shortage of people willing to cater to his every whim. But since all of those people can’t seem to see anything other than his money, Hayes is left to wonder if he has any true friends at all.

Praises: One of the things I loved about this book was how it dealt with the struggle for identity. Hayes gets a glimpse of an entirely different life for himself, and he has to figure out how to deal with that. Should he go back to his old life? Could he be happy with the promise of a different future? Is there a way to have both? We get to see Hayes and Bo work through these issues, and I liked how the book demonstrates differences in class, expectations, and family dynamics, and how people are forced to adapt to changing circumstances. It was really interesting.

Critiques: There’s a lot, and I mean A LOT of angst in this book, so be prepared for that. If I had one wish, it’s that Michael Robert spent less time on detailing Bo & Hayes’s failed past relationships and more time on their five weeks together in paradise. That was the premise that got me excited about reading this book: two strangers thrust together and forced to get to know each other even though one of them doesn’t even know who he is. I wanted to know EVERYTHING that happened. I was prepared for lots of ooey gooey tension and discovery and feelings. And we do get that, but I really wish there was more. By the time they finally did come together, it all felt a bit rushed.

Themes: Survival, Man v Society, Man v Self, Hubris, Finding Identity, Family, Coming of Age

Overall Tone: Sometimes it takes leaving the past behind to get a clear glimpse of what you want your future to look like.

Prose: Dual 1st person POV from Bo and Hayes. I confess I didn’t always love the prose in this story. At times it felt kind of stiff and old-fashioned (I’ve never heard a single person under the age of 50 refer to another human as “stud”, it felt very 70s adult film to me). Since this story is written in 1st person, you read the words as if they are the thoughts of the character, and how Bo & Hayes expressed their thoughts just didn’t always jive with what I’d expect characters their age to sound like.

Steam: 4/5 There’s plenty of tension and some steamy first times in this one. A slow burn.

Swear Jar: 5/5 The swearing is plentiful in this one.

    Cliffhanger: HEA, No cliffhanger.

    Memorable quotes:
For some strange reason I had an overwhelming need for him to know that I was the man who’d saved his life. His hero.

Worthy of a reread? Maybe, Yes.

I loved this story. It is the first book I’ve read by Michael Robert, but I am deep in to the genre….Anyway, this story is fresh in so many ways and made more so by the amazing character and character of Bo. His love and attentiveness and genuineness shines through even the worst of the complicated lives related to Hayes’ life. Other characters shine though as well, but this is truly the story of two wonderful men who find and lose and find and lose again—each lost in his own way—until grace and courage by them and a supportive Mom help them find their way. Buy and read and hopefully love and for sure then recommend this great story on to others for them to enjoy as well!

I got really wrapped up in this story. My heart was breaking for those two. Their past with unloving partners and having the greatest chance in life for greatest love of all time. They both deserved to be with each other. They looked completely opposite on the outside but inside they were the same.

This was another incredible story by Michael Robert and I would definitely highly recommended it!

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute joy to read!

This is the first book I have read by Michael Robert and it will not be the last. I am so glad I took a chance and bought this book when I read the synopsis. What a great writer and what a wonderful gay romance of two men from completely different worlds who come together during a natural disaster and fall in love.
Bo Dawson is a fisherman living in a simple wooden shack on Parris Island in South Caroline. Two years earlier he lost the love of his life who left him and went to college despite the promises they had made to plan a future together. Bo is devastated when Jamie leaves and has still not recovered from his ex-boyfriend's loss. Shortly after this he also lost his grandmother who raised him after his father died. Bo is only 20, and he has good friends, but he is lonely and wants a man who will put him first to share his life with.
Hayes Crawford is 26 and from a wealthy southern family who come from "old money" in Charleston and everything that entails. His obnoxious wealthy boyfriend of 10 years refuses to come out of the closet and their relationship is at crisis point. Things rapidly deteriorate on a weekend sailing trip when Hayes finds out his boyfriend has been unfaithful and decides to leave the yacht as a storm surges up the Caroline coast. Hayes ends up being washed ashore at Bo's fishing shack. He has no memory of how he got there and doesn't remember who he is and where he came from. Bo looks after him and they both end up falling for each other. When Hayes regains his memory and returns to his former life he wants to take Bo back with him, but the reality of his previous life is a far cry from Bo's life and things rapidly spin out of control . Is love enough to pull them back together and overcome their huge lifestyle differences when the reality is they both want the same thing when it comes to a personal relationship?
This is an absolute joy to read and I could not put it down

💕 All Bo wants is a quiet life on the island with someone to call his own. When Hayes arrives, his memory loss allows him to just be himself without any expectations. Once he gets past the initial shock. It’s a beautiful blossoming relationship between them.
The book took several chapters introducing each character before they meet. You need to be patient (I know, it’s hard). It’s important to understand who they are as individuals before the storm, so you can better grasp the magnitude of the impact of the second “storm”. Technically, not a storm, but when Hayes gets thrust back into his old life, it sure feels like it. And we don’t know if he can survive this one.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I know you will too.
