THRILLER, CHILLER!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2018Despite having read stories with a similar theme I thoroughly enjoyed this book about a heart transplant recipient (Jenna) who starts having visions and feelings associated with her organ donor (Callie). This paragraph sums up the feelings of Jenna as she waits with hope for a miracle.
“Time was interminable: doctors consulted, nurses fuss and notes were made until one day a miracle happened. “We’ve found a heart” Dr Kapur announced.”
Strange flashbacks propel Jenna into finding out more about the donor and how she died. This sets Jenna off on a mission to discover what Callie is trying to tell her, despite the obvious dangers she now exposes herself to.
“A heart is not just an organ. The heart stores secrets and lies. Hopes and dreams. It’s more than a muscle. I know it is. The heart remembers.”
Cellular memory is discussed as a theory including documented instances where the recipient has changed their eating habits, likes and even spoke the native language of the donor that neither doctors nor scientists were able to explain. This made the book thought-provoking.
"It is proven that memory itself is distributed throughout the neural system and the heart’s nervous system contains around 40 000 neurons that communicate with the brain. If you transplant a heart, you are transplanting these neurons.”
This novel is a gripping psychological thriller that steadily builds up the tension throughout.
“We all have our reasons for doing the things we do, don’t we? The lies we tell. We are all a mixture of good and bad and I don’t think anyone is entirely one thing or the other.”
Unlike most gripping thrillers of late that I’ve read, the ending had an unforeseen twist. I also liked that the story was balanced with good, bad and not too bad nor too good characters. More importantly, the story is well written but still easy to read.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2017This is the second book of Louise Jensen. It is indeed an Improvement from her first book. It is 350 pages, a must-read psychological Thriller! Entertaining but has many grammatical errors. Is anyone editing Miss Jenkins books?
If you can overlook the editing errors, the book is about a woman who receives a heart transplant then begins to see visions and dreams of the donor. It's entertaining, but creepy at the same time. I enjoyed the "Thriller" part of the book, however the strange dream/ daytime nightmares we're not what I enjoyed, even though this is a work of fiction it was too 'out there' for my liking. Having said that, I would recommend this book if you enjoy psychological thrillers. The book keeps you guessing the outcome to the last several pages.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2017This was an interesting plot and read well. I'd call it a quick and simple "beach read" for most. I can't give it 5 stars because I was able to put it down and not come back to it for a few days, which is is not a quality I consider to be 5 stars. I'd definitely recommend it as a good book, more like 3 1/2.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2017This is another author that I have never heard of. I bought this book on Amazon around Christmas and just picked it up and decided to read it. I thought it was a book based on the movie with the same title, but by the end of the first chapter, I realized that I was wrong. I kept on, however, and I am very glad that I did! You first meet Jenna following a heart transplant. She is a young woman living on her own after breaking up with her live-in boyfriend shortly after her surgery, knowing that she can't give him the life he dreams of now that she can no longer have children. Jenna depends on others or public transportation to get around, and she is about to start back at work after taking some months off for recovery. But then she starts feeling weird. At first she thinks her medication is too strong and she tries to cope. But then Jenna starts having these weird dreams and has become very forgetful which has made her feel very uneasy.
Against her therapists recommendations, Jenna, also, desires to meet her heart donors family to pay her respects and to properly thank them for their selflessness. While in their home, she begins to realize that the dreams are not dreams, but memories of the original owner of her new heart and she finds herself completely emerged in a possible murder investigation that leads to more stress and a stalker situation! This is a must read, my friends!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2019I don't know what made me choose this book. It's very different to the type I would normally go for, but I'm so glad I did.
Written in first person dialogue it tells us the turmoil Jenna has found herself in since receiving her donor heart. With inexplicable feelings and flashbacks into the world of Callie, she is lost in a world of fear and confusion. And as she deciphers the messages through dreams and intuition she is thrust into a world of danger.
The storyline is intriguing and maintains the suspense throughout, building to a finale that thankfully, ties up all the loose ends for the reader.
A smidgen of fact. A visit to the "other side". Romance and emotions along with a great big dollop of suspense. This book has it all. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will add Louise Jensen to my list of favorite authors .

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost 5 stars
I adored this book until the ending, and I'm sorry to say I felt disappointed after I finished this. I didn't really buy the ending, and thought if the story went in a different direction it would have made a stronger story. I loved the premise and the character was fantastic and sympathetic. It could have been a 5-star read but the ending fell flat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente de principio a fin.
Personajes e historia congruentes. No pude prever el final. Muy interesante la situación de los pacientes de trasplantes así como la de los donadores.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that keeps you guessing all the way through
Just finished reading this very engaging book by Louise Jensen, her second book after her debut novel, The Sister.
Jenna has received a heart transplant from a donor. Months after Jenna begins to have dreams and believes that she is feeling the emotions of Callie, the donor. She begins to delve into Callies past and becomes obsessed with finding out about her donor, who she feels she now has a deep connection with and contact her family. As she begins to realise there may have been some mysterious circumstances around Callies death, Jenna takes it upon herself to try and find out the truth, but it might not be quite what you expect.
Throughout the story I often found the storyline blurred and you questioned what was in Jenna's mind and what was the reality. As she was on a concoction of drugs to prevent the transplant being rejected you wondered how much of what she was thinking could be attributed to that. This only added to the intrigue and kept you guessing throughout.
The theme carried through the book is that of cellular memory which is the belief that some people who recieve an organ transplants can take on the memories of the donor and even traits that they had. It's an interesting concept that the author weaved well through the book.
This book is a wonderful thriller, with twists and turns all the way through. Just when you think you have finally 'got it' another twist is thrown into the mix. It's a gripping read from start to finish, and I should add that the last couple of pages even made me a bit tearful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complex thriller
The only failing might have been that it was slightly too long for the story covered. Interesting plot, and concept of the story with the Cell Memory idea. It kept my attention well, I frequently went on to another chapter when I had planned to put it aside for the day. The characters were developed well. Perhaps the physical toll on a person who has a heart transplant might be more than portrayed, but I'm not sure of that. Overall, a good read that left the reader thinking.
