Editorial Reviews
Review
"This story was a page turner for me and is one that I'd recommend!" - Windy F., NetGalley
"This is my favorite book in the series. I loved the feisty fiery Cat Ashdown. Mr. Jones is the perfect foil for her. The adventure, action, and forbidden romance make this book hard to put down." -Nikbooklovers's Blog
"After reading Alyssa Alexander's The Lady and Mr. Jones, the third in her A Spy in the Ton series, I find myself rushing to read her first two. Fantastic concept, suspenseful, action-filled, total immersion in the era, and most of all, richly drawn characters that pull the reader deep into their inner lives." - Jennifer Trethewey, author of Tying the Scot
"Wow, what a powerful novel! Adventure, espionage, love and heartbreak, this one has got it all. The characters are absolutely enchanting and I am in love with the hero and the heroine of the book. Both of them are extremely strong, loving and honorable. I loved their story and their struggle to a HEA." -Book Diva
"The story just pulled me along with its intensity, I could hardly put it down. The author's writing is wonderful. She creates characters I fall in love with, a heroine you want to be and a hero you wish was your real life hero. NOT a book to start just before bedtime on a working day!" -Linda T., Goodreads

About the author

Despite being a native Michigander, Alyssa Alexander is pretty certain she belongs somewhere sunny. And tropical. Where drinks are served with little paper umbrellas. But until she moves to those white sandy beaches, she survives the cold Michigan winters by penning romance novels that always include a bit of adventure. She lives with her own set of heroes, aka an ever-patient husband who doesn’t mind using a laundry basket for a closet, and a small boy who wears a knight in a shining armor costume for such tasks as scrubbing potatoes.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2023Action packed! Very suspenseful! Wry emotional! I used a half a box of tissues reading the book and my eyes were puffy.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2020I am thrilled to have found a new author for myself! Well written fast - paced spy romance Regency novel; yay! This is a series, I read this one out of order, it does not matter to me, just finding a decent book that held my interest without steamy gross sex scenes is a miracle! It does have romance, the love scenes are extremely well done, like an adult! The one thing this book should have had, is a closure for her Aunt, what happened to her? Why isn't she in the Epilogue?
I highly recommend! Thanks!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2018Jones came from the Rookies left at the founding
home. Cat who’s is raised up in luxury is very down to earth. Jones is a spy who spies on other spies who is dealing in other vices. Wycomb is the spy he is watching and Cat is his niece . This is a book I enjoyed reading and would recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2018Alyssa Alexander is a masterful storyteller, weaving a compelling tale filled with intrigue and grounded in historical details. I rooted for Cat and Jones, who came alive on the page. A beautiful, well-crafted novel by a truly gifted writer.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2017Cat Ashdown is a baroness, one of the few who can carry the title on her own without a husband, and she is in trouble. Her uncle and her trustees wont let her touch her inheritance to help the people who live on her estates and she'll do anything in order to help them, even be abused and sold off by her uncle. Help is on the way, though. Jones, a spy in service to the crown, is doing what he does best: going after spies who seem to have taken a turn for the worse, and Cat's uncle is one of the worst. Jones needs to find out what the secret agenda is and what is going on in order to stop the spy master as well as save Cat, even if he can't have her.
I really enjoyed this novel and had a hard time putting it down. I really liked Cat's intelligence and resourcefulness, as well as her big heart. She's a tough and fair woman and in way over her head. So much so that any sign of Jones being pulled towards her, she'll take. He's perfect for her and she instinctively knows it. Jones is a great spy, but he's also insecure about his position in life and society. Born in seven dials he knows that he isn't good enough for cat, but that doesn't stop him from secretly hoping and wishing he could be. There are some wonderful scenes with him and his butterfly book where my heart almost broke for him. It's a great cat-and-mouse story and though at times violent, it really puts the plight of women in perspective, especially rich ones.
But all in all, a great read. I haven't read the rest of this series, which I now realize means this is the first novel by Alyssa Alexander that I've read. But I can promise, this definitely wont be the last!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2017he Lady and Mr.Jones is book four in the series A Spy in the Ton by Alyssa Alexander
Mary Elizabeth Frances Catherine Ashdown 13th Baroness of Worthington Cat to her friends and family, is an heiress born into privilege she had everything while growing up, but upon her fathers death she’s become a ward to her evil uncle Lord Wycomb. As her guardian he has complete control over her inheritance and her. She will not be able to take control of her inheritance until she’s the ripe old age of thirty-five or marries. And that she can’t accept, her uncles evil machinations leave her and everyone who depends on her in peril, it’s time that she takes matters in her own hands. She definitely will not marry someone of her uncles choosing she’ll marry a man who will love her and respect her a man of honour.
Mr.Jones an orphan with no heritage born in the rookeries was saved and trained to be a spy, and he became the best at what he did. His sense of honour is his shield and he never forgot from where he came from,

Unbeknownst to Cat, Jones is investigating her uncle but as Jones keeps on appearing to save her the truth of his investigation is revealed they decide to work together to reveal her uncles evil duplicity. The more they work together the more their feelings deepen for each other. Jones has fallen for Cat but feels unworthy for a woman of Cats status. Their attraction is unavoidable although Jones tries to keep his distance their lives and hearts become even more intertwined with Cats life in peril and a traitorous spy to capture, the stakes are high for Cat and Jones.
A well written story with an intelligent heroine not afraid to fight for what is right. The story flows well will keep you glued to the pages, you have intrigue, spies, a villainous plot for murder, kidnapping and dangerous situations. A hero who will do anything for the damsel in distress even though she’s everything he’s ever wanted but so out of his reach. So many twists and turns and passionate encounters between Cat and Jones makes this an exciting gripping must read story.
Perfectly written. Another hit by Alyssa Alexander.
