Maggie Christensen writes about mature heroines coming to terms with changes in their lives - women who have learned to live and love in later life and the heroes worthy of them, heartwarming stories of second chances. Readers often describe her books as feel-good reads with people you'd want as friends.

After a career in education, Maggie Christensen began writing contemporary women's fiction portraying mature women facing life-changing situations. Her travels inspire her writing, be it her frequent visits to family in Oregon, USA, her home on Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast.

From her native Glasgow, Scotland, Maggie was lured by the call 'Come and teach in the sun' to Australia, where she worked as a primary school teacher, university lecturer and in educational management. Now living with her husband of thirty years on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, she loves walking on the deserted beach in the early mornings and having coffee by the river on weekends. Her days are spent surrounded by books, either reading or writing them - her idea of heaven!

It's hard not to fall in love with the town and residents of Granite Springs. This eighth book in the series is no exception, in fact it is one of my favourites! Looking forward to book nine!

A good book. Even though I was given a copy of this book by the author, it in no way influenced my opinion and this is my honest review.

Going back to Granite Springs is like a family reunion, I love this town and the characters that I have gotten to know, this time Ann Baird is going to get a second chance at love thirty five years after the one and only man she loves Gus Thomas returns to Granit Springs, will regret and guilt interfere or will happiness prevail? A must read story especially if you are fond of mature heroes and heroines.

Ann has lived all of her life in Granit Springs, she was once a bright and bubbly fun person she was young and very much in love but the one she loved Gus had big plans for the future he wanted to go to The States and learn more, oh Ann wanted to go but her family needed her and she stayed but she never forgot Gus. She has worked hard and kept to herself all these years but when there is a terrible accident involving an exchange student from Canada, Ann comes face to face with the Gus Thomas after all of these years and it is heart stopping for her.

Dr. Chris Thomas has built up a big IT company in Canada but when his daughter Cassie is involved in an accident in his old home town of Granite Springs he flies over immediately wondering about the girl he left behind thirty five years ago, he has never forgotten Annie after all of this time and is not expecting her to still be here, but when he meets up with her he knows that he has always loved her but can they make a go of it now?

Another beautifully written story that shows that love can make a difference no matter your age or what hurdles are put in front of you, Gus and Annie from the past are now Chris and Ann no matter what both have been through in the last thirty five years their love has lasted the distance, fabulous characters this story is filled with emotion, it is heartwarming and beautiful I do love catching up with the friends from previous books and I always look forward to new visits. This is a story that I highly recommend it was a wonderful read.

My thanks to the author for my digital copy to read and review.

Ann has only ever loved Gus since they were high school sweethearts. When he asked her to leave Granite Springs, Australia to start a new life in Canada. Like a dutiful daughter, she chose to stay behind to care for her ailing mom. Gus has built a mega successful IT business, but is now a divorced man of five years who hasn't been happy for far longer. Unbeknownst to Ann, his daughter is attending university right there in her hometown. Suddenly, thirty-five years later, he returns when his daughter is seriously injured in a motorbike accident and bumps into Ann who is volunteering at the hospital.

There are so many challenges and obstacles in this story, like two continents, an ex-wife and Ann's very fragile heart. But Gus, and some of Ann's friends, convince her to take a leap of faith and leave her regrets behind.

Oh how I love this series and all the characters we've come to know. It's hard to believe it's the eighth book already and it's one of the best. I feel like a member of the Granite Springs community and would love to chat with them over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. I'm so happy there is another book yet to come. Brava, Maggie!

If you’ve been following the Granite Springs Series, you will remember that there is one Granite Springs native with a bit of mystery about her. Ann is kind, quiet, thoughtful, efficient and generous, but people find her hard to know. At long-last we learn more about her in The Life She Regrets. We experience with her the very difficult, bumpy road to being capable of trusting others and allowing love to re-enter her life.

As always, I enjoyed again meeting old friends from Granite Springs, as well as meeting several new friends who I hope to meet again in other Jean Grainger books. While some Australian terms and some of their syntax is different from my American English, I am delighted by the way Jean Grainger draws me into situations and into each person’s feelings and reactions to events. Her characters feel like friends I might meet on my next trip to the grocery store.

A beautiful book about how second chances can come around at anytime and when they aren't expected. Ann made a choice years ago to stay in Granite Springs and take care of her mother. It was a choice she had to make but, not one she wanted to make. She had thought that she found peace with her life. But, when a tragic accident happens, it brings her past and present together. Lovely characters that remind you that life isn't over until the end. And that love and happiness can be found at any point in ones life. A wonderful book that not only brings us back to Granite Springs but, makes us believe that it's never too late to love.

Another trip to Granite Springs to visit the people we have come to know and a new love story as well. Ann, as a young woman, had known and loved a young man called Gus but he need to leave Granite Springs and she needed to stay to care for her mom. Years later Gus is known as Chris (his middle name is Angus) to the rest of the world. He is returning to Granite Springs to help his daughter and the rest is history. A lovely story about how life can be an adventure and love can happen at anytime.

I love Maggie’s mature romances! You can picture yourself living in the small college town of Granite Springs, meeting all of Ann’s friends and her high school sweetheart Gus. A wonderful can’t put down story of second chances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Renewed my loved of reading
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 26, 2021
I downloaded the set of books 1-3 as the stories appealed to me. I love reading, but for more years than I care to remember, I had been in a reading slump.

I rattled through the first set, then set of books 4 - 6. A search for others provided access to 7 & 8. I have finished book 8 this morning and now eagerly await book 9 (pre ordered). In the space of 7 days I have read all of these, it’s been years since I raced through books like this. Thank you to the author, whom I have never had communications with, for creating a great series, that has reinvigorated my love of reading.

I loved the characters and liked the strategy of the author, each one focusing on a couple, who then become part of a larger community.

I hope there will be a book 10, but I am now going to read others by this author whilst I await book 9.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best yet in this fab series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 27, 2021
Wow! The best book yet in this excellent and entertaining series. This is story of a first-love couple who were forced apart, getting a second chance at finding happiness with each other after 35 years apart. Yes, there's still a strong attraction between Ann and Chris but there is also a sense of betrayal, guilt and confusion on both their parts. Add in a secret that has the potential to wreck everything, a manipulative ex, pressures of work and family obligations - as well as the fact they now live on opposite sides of the world - and you're assured of a tense, emotional but oh so romantic read.
