The Lines We Draw: Artists and Athletes book 1 Kindle Edition
"I would consider this a must read for m/m romance." -5 star review by Kyle
"I was completely drawn in from the beginning! There were so many swoon worthy moments in this book" -5 star review by Chelsea
Staying a closeted soccer player was a lot easier before I met this gorgeous arts major. Now I want so much more, but is he worth the risk?
Ravi
I’m perfectly fine in my comfort zone. As co-captain of my university soccer team, I know my place. I play hard on the field and my teammates look up to me. Would they look up to me if they knew I liked guys? Probably not, so I’m okay staying a closeted virgin.
That is, until I’m forced to take an arts class, and I’m seated next to the sexiest guy I’ve ever seen. He helps me pass art class, makes me laugh, and has me wanting things I never thought were possible. As the semester goes on, we get closer, and trying to keep my hands off him and stay away from him becomes nearly impossible.
What will happen to my position on the team if I ask him out? I don’t think I’m willing to find out. Now I just gotta stop dreaming about kissing him and holding him… Damn.
Steven
As a fine arts major, I have to focus on creating good work and impressing my professors. Part of that entails sitting in on this beginners arts class, and I just so happen to be next to a gorgeous athlete this semester.
Relationships are a sour note for me, but flirting with the co-captain of the soccer team could be fun. I know it’s not going to go anywhere- he’s straight. Over time, though, becoming friends with Ravi, teaching him how to visualize his art, and learning about his life makes me question what we’re doing.
I don’t know if I’m ready to let someone else into my heart again, least of all a potential closet case (no matter how sexy he is). Still with the way he makes me smile and how my heart beats when I’m near him, I think we’re both in too deep now.
[“The Lines We Draw” is a low-angst, male/male romance, friends-to-lovers story involving art classes, soccer games, nude models, drunken parties, and discovering what sex and love can really feel like, HEA guaranteed.
It is the first of a series and can be read as a standalone.]

- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2024I found CD Rachels’ other series, Single Gamer’s Society, absolutely charming and wanted to try one of his original books. I’m so glad to have found his work!
I like HEAs and low angst but I still want it to have substance and fully formed characters. Rachels does a really lovely job with having all of the above. I’ve now read three books with well-rounded and interesting characters, with fun and entertaining plots, while still feeling meaningful.
Ravi and Steven are beautiful to read about: watching Ravi find contentment for the first time in his life with such a sweet and patient partner, while also being the steadfast and true boyfriend Steven deserves was amazing. I found myself highlighting quotes that stuck with me just as much as made me laugh! “‘Are we drinking wine already?’” I ask with all the enthusiasm of a dead squirrel.” made me giggle as much as “‘So whatever baggage you have, I’ll take it with me.’” warmed me right up. A very tender, well thought out and written story from an author I’m excited to read more of!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2024"The Lines We Draw" was my first read from author CD Rachels. It's a quick, cute story about soccer co-captain Ravi Metta and Fine Arts major Steven O'Rourke. At Korham University, everyone has to take a fine arts class, even the athletes. This is how Ravi ends up meeting Steven. He's immediately blown away by his beauty and the feeling is mutual. These two should just go for it, right? Except...Ravi is still in the closet. He fears that his position as captain and the respect of his teammates would be on the chopping block if he came out. Sparks start to fly between the two, but Steven is left wondering if they'll ever be more than secret boyfriends. Ravi has to decide between his reputation or a real chance at love.
This book was so cute. A little spicy spice. A dash of angst. And I was able to finish it in two days. I think most readers would find it to be a good quiet evening read. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick, low-angst college romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2022This was pretty good! I liked both main characters and I love a jock/artist romance!
I enjoyed the banter between the MCs and Steven showing Ravi new things while also slowly becoming more vulnerable too.
This could definitely use a better edit though. I noticed a ton of issues that while they didn’t bug me enough to not like it or stop reading it was distracting.
Speaking of distracting… what is with all the giggling!!?! Seriously it was over the top. At one point Ravi was growling and possessive and the next sentence he was giggling?! Come on now. And it’s not even “men don’t giggle” bs I would be equally annoyed if I woman was giggling every two seconds especially it didn’t fit the mood or the character. It was distracting and frankly did take away from my enjoyment of the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2024This was an enjoyable story. As a requirement for his degree, soccer star Ravi has to take an art class. He meets the friendly artist Steven who offers his help. As the two bond over drawing techniques, they can't deny the attraction growing between them. But Ravi isn't out yet and constantly worries how his teammates and his mom will react. There were a lot of fun moments throughout the story, and a little bit of angst as Ravi and Steven try to figure out if a relationship could work. The side characters were great, I'm looking forward to their own books. I loved the grand gesture towards the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2022Ooh! A college sports romance with bi-awakening? Yeah, I’m there! This was a fun read, sweet and low-angst with plenty of laughs. The characters were great and diverse and I loved how supportive they were. Ravi is a little flustered when starts to realize that he’s actually attracted to the hot guy in his art class, but overall, he takes it well. Steven doesn’t want to deal with the heartbreak of falling for the soccer star, but can’t resist him. I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series goes! The secondary characters were great.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2024This was amazingly romantic and sweet. Ravi is the captain of the soccer team, and Steven is a fine arts major. They end up connecting in the art class that Ravi needs to graduate, and can't stay away from each other.
Steven has been out for a long time, but Ravi isn't. Ravi known that he is gay for a while, but hasn't ever acted in it or met someone worth the risk. But that all changed when he walked into the art room and locked eyes with Steven.
I think the thing I loved the most about this book was that in addition to the characters being so relatable, the situations were ones that many people have found themselves in during their own college years.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2022Such a fun and hot story, I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. A lot of swoon worthy moments and a refreshing take of the genre. I was in love with all the characters (Steven is my ultimate crush) and can’t wait to read the next book on this series. I can picture already the multiple spin offs, the movie deal and a tv show. An amazing first novel from a new author.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2022This book wasn't for me. I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. I usually love sports romances, and I was excited to read one featuring soccer, but I couldn't get into this one. I didn't care for the writing style. The characters didn't grab me. I didn't feel connected to them and I didn't really believe in their romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars So cute and sweet
Such a sweet and cute story between a soccer player and an artiste. I loved how the relationship was slowly built. It was really cute to see Ravi starting to act for himself and finally being true to himself. Even if he knew he was gay - he wasn’t sure to act on it because of the stigma in sport.
It was a beautiful story, light and kind, I enjoyed it very much !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn’t put it down!
This book actually flows from the page! It’s written that well its like you’re not even reading. The plot is one that’s been done before, sure, but it’s written in such a cute way with lots of the characters inner monologue that I find hilarious!! It’s sweet, sexy, funny and heart warming all at the same time. I cant wait for the next one in April as I think I’ve guessed who the next one is about and am totally curious to see how it plays out. Congrats CD Rachels your book is amazeballs!

5.0 out of 5 stars When flirting turns serious…
A wonderful story. Fabulous definition of what a comfort zone is - it will forever be a clubhouse for me now. This story is a lot about the assumptions we make, the insecurities we develop, the masks we wear and sometimes, when we really want something, how we have to cross the lines we draw. Steven and Ravi are so right for each other but they have to find a way to be together despite assumptions, insecurities, masks and lines drawn. This is a very heart-warming story…these guys are always trying to make it work, there are speed-bumps but they get their HEA, and they really belong together. I want to read more in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read
This was a really enjoyable romance read. The characters were well written and realistic. I love books that show past stereotypes and this did it well with a jock and artist. Some sweet moments and some steamy ones. Looking forward to more in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars so in love with this book
Ravi and Steven are so cute! I was looking for a book to make me blush and this was recommended to me. I am not disappointed! Ravi is closeted and co-captain of the soccer team, he meets Steven in a mandatory art class. Steven helps Ravi out of his comfort zone and into his heart. If you want college artist/jock cute book, this is it!
