The Lion's Den Kindle Edition
Belle likes to think herself immune to the dizzying effects of wealth. Belle's dream vacation quickly devolves into a nightmare as she and the other girls Summer invited are treated more like prisoners than guests by their vicious host.
Belle is going to have to keep her wits about her—and her own big secret closely hidden—if she wants to make it off this yacht alive.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase"The Lion's Den" by Katherine St. John is an absolute page-turner that kept me hooked from start to finish. The plot is masterfully crafted, filled with unexpected twists and turns that left me on the edge of my seat. Just when I thought I had figured things out, St. John threw in another surprise that completely upended my expectations.
One of the standout aspects of the book is the character development. Summer, in particular, is a brilliantly written antagonist. Her cunning and manipulative nature made her absolutely horrible, yet fascinating to read about. St. John’s portrayal of Summer is so vivid and realistic that I found myself despising her actions while eagerly anticipating her next move.
Overall, "The Lion's Den" is a thrilling read that I highly recommend. It's a perfect blend of suspense, drama, and intrigue, with a plot that keeps you guessing and characters that are richly developed. Katherine St. John has delivered a stellar novel that will stay with me for a long time.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2021Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThink of this book as the “real housewives” version of a thriller: an entertaining, unputdownable, guilty pleasure. Like indulging in reading Us Weekly, The Lion’s Den is the tabloid of thrillers. It describes the worst of human behavior in the most opulent, expensive, high-end of settings.
The main character, Belle, is likeable, down-to-earth and intelligent, but also deeply frustrating throughout the book as, in the beginning, she is overly nice, doesn’t have good boundaries, and doesn’t stand up for herself. She gives up her power. She allows people to mistreat her. She knows things are wrong, but she still allows them to happen. The whole time I was reading, I was thinking that Belle is a doormat who suffers from “too nice” syndrome. I was getting so frustrated with her as she seemed to embody the passivity of women that we have tried so hard to overcome. However, the twist at the end explains it all when light is shed on the true situation and everything comes to the surface. We find out Belle isn’t quite the pushover she appears. She finds her voice, her power, and her strength.
This book serves as a reminder to women: listen to our instincts, set boundaries, stand our ground, say no when we need to, never give up our power to anyone, and always always hold on to your passport. Female instincts are powerful and we have them for a reason, so let’s listen to them! They’re usually right!
This book is also about social climbing, giving in to people with power and money, and what some women will do, or give up, to be with a wealthy man. This book can be summed up by the well-used quote “not all that glitters is gold”. I was totally captivated by this book and couldn’t put it down!
The one thing I didn’t like about this book is that it describes some of the worst of womanhood: fake, catty, gold-digging, back-stabbing, lying, manipulative, doormats… It seems to play into all the negative stereotypes of women! But when I emailed the author to share with her my thoughts and to get her feedback, she very graciously complied and explained that “they're archetypes united by avarice…Women are varied creatures, aren't we? Some are heroes and some are villains. My next book is about women sticking together and standing up for each other, because thankfully that exists in the world too.” Can’t wait to read The Siren, her next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved every thing about this book! The author, Katherine St. John, is someone to watch. Was such a fun read, never once making me feel disappointed and kept me turning the page and reading long into the night. So hoping it will be made into a series, as it has it all, glitz, glamour, beautiful people, amazing sites, and an intriguing thriller all rolled into one glorious read!!

The book so far is interesting and Im looking forward to finishing it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2023Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseBelle, actress and all, doesn’t get caught up in the fame and fortune of the world. So when her best friend, Summer, wants to take her to the Mediterranean for a week aboard Summer’s boyfriend's yacht she is hesitant but undoubtedly says yes. The week is guaranteed to be extravagant and glamorous.
Belle and the other guests are showered with champagne and gifts but behind the cascade of offerings, something is suspicious. Belle’s dream vacation quickly becomes a nightmare and she doesn't know who she can trust. Belle begins to question Summer’s motives and the shady business deals happening in the corners of the yacht. After a tragic event, Belle knows she has to stay one step ahead of Summer if she wants to make it off the yacht alive.
The setting of this book was super fun and adventurous. Who wouldn’t want to go to the Italian Riviera on a yacht? I needed a break from the freezing cold and a chance to daydream of warm weather. This would be a great beach or poolside read. The good vs. evil duo between the main characters added tension and perplexity to the plot. I loved Belle and absolutely hated Summer! The flashbacks amped up the twists but the ending was too perfect for a thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Summer Read
I enjoyed reading this book very much and I will definitely be looking out for more of this author's books. There was enough suspense to keep me reading through the night and I felt a loss when it ended. The characters were flawed, some quite badly, but that made it all the more real and I am glad none of my friends are like that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent vacation beach read!!!
Anything I'd write here about the book would be spoiler -- so all I can say if you read non-fiction and technical stuff all year, and are looking for 100% time off at a beach with a couple of good (strictly fiction 👍) books, choose this to be oneof them.

I only took a day to read from start to finish. At first I thought at first I bet I know how this ends ….. turns out I was wrong. !!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Starts well but ...
Starts well and the story is intriguing enough but there's not much to like about the jumble of characters, including the heroine, as the plot runs out of steam and the finale becomes all but unbelievable.
